So many Purists... If it sounds good, plays good, feels right; it is a GOOD guitar. Who cares about the pick ups and what kind they're commonly used for?? It's about the sound and the feel, get over yourself. Great guitar players don't give a shit, they care about music; if a 100,- squier fits into the music just right, they will use it; if the guitar they use is not like it was in the 60's but sounds amazing, they use it. So many hobbyists care too much about that shit man...
@@afterstars As much as I hate the concept it really sounds and plays extremly well. I tried one out recently and it was simply awesome. Never could have imagined it was gonna be that good.
Szten my friend purchased one. Goes out of tune every 25 minutes. Checked out reviews from people who own it. It seems to be an issue. Either way it’s extremely stripped down shadow of a true jazzmaster. Not saying it might not feel good. If I put a Toyota Corolla engine in a 69 Mustang and sit in it , it will feel good but it’s still not a real Mustang.
@@afterstars It's not a shadow of a Jazzmaster, it's not a Jazzmaster at all, despite the name on the headstock. It's an offset shaped Stratocaster with two pickups. Strat bridge, Strat pickups (under the Jazzmaster pickup cover). And I can assure you, it really does sound a lot more like a Strat than a JM. Well, it has a six saddles tremolo bridge, if you actually use that tremolo, it will go out of tune, no surprise. It comes with that concept. Fender could have made it with a two saddles one to prevent this issue, but for me and many others who used to the 6 saddles bridges, it's not a deal breaker.
Szten I agree 100% and I’m not saying it’s a bad guitar but for anyone seeking a true jazzmaster and thinking they will accomplish that with this guitar, it’s not going to happen
I literally designed this exact guitar on Fender's Mod Shop the other day not knowing it was released as a regular guitar a couple years ago. I saved myself about $800 by discovering it on Reverb. Only difference is the pickups, which I had Pure Vintage 65's in the one I designed but I'll settle for the Yosemites to save $800. Other than that, it is exactly what I want
yeah I never liked the original Jazzmaster trem. Honestly I wish it was just a hard tail, something I wish Fender made more of in general, but this is better than the original trem system
When I first heard and saw these, I was not a fan. If you're a Jazzmaster purist, this isn't going to cut it. The tremolo and rocking bridge is as much of the Jazzmaster tone as the pickups or 1 meg pots are. However after playing one, I dig it. The sound isn't as crisp but less tension means easier bends and little more low end. The tuning stability is much improved, I know if they're set up right but every time you change your strings you will need a setup. With this it's not so necessary and you still get that Jazzmaster sparkle. After I sold myself on this one, I thought I would give the G&L Doheny a try. The G&L won.
OMG, I was exhausted reading a few of the exchanges on whether this guitar is a disguised Strat or a true Jazzmaster. I went down to my local Guitar Center and played both. I get each argument, it’s not a traditional JM and it’s not traditional Strat. I’m a Strat owner and you can tell the difference. It’s a great sounding guitar, I do like the simplicity and you get a nice tone out of this axe. Given the choice... I’d buy a REAL Jazzmaster or Strat if I desired either. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and like this guitar and it’s tone, grab it!
Just got this beauty. Despite playing for awhile, i only recently got into the specs and whatnot. Question: how do I set this guitar up? Do I look up tutorials on Jazzmasters, or on Strats?
I don't understand the nincompoops who say this is just a Strat now. It's not hard at all to get a set of PV65s or some other traditional JM pups put in. No Strat would ever sound like this, or be as comfortable to play for that matter. Just wait till y'all find out I put a 12" radius Roadhouse Strat neck on my Classic Player JM...
nice job explaining the actual setup......nobody does that, and it's important.....HOWEVER, isn't there a push/pull circuit ? No mention ? next time put the 4 speed in to show that as well.
@EmilyElla11 Yes, more than likely :D (no) Btw I managed to try one out and I have to admit, it's a pretty awesome guitar. It plays and sounds just great. Still not a Jazzmaster tho... :D
@dark day A Jazzmaster is a Jazzmaster because of three things: - the JM shape - the JM tremolo - the JM pups This guitar lack two of those three. The pups are Strat ones under the JM pup cover, and the tremolo is a traditional Strat one as well. So that's correct, I cannot consider this guitar a Jazzmaster. But it IS a great guitar though. Just not a JM.
@dark day I guess they are very well aware of the fact that they made a non-traditional guitar which in many aspect resembles a Strat much more than a JM. I can see you are a bit confused by the name you can see in the headstock, but in practice it does not matter. What matters is how it sounds and how it plays.
Whatever is being played from 8:13 to the end is beautiful. What is that? Sounds like some kind of mid 2000’s indie rock. I guess it could be Goo Goo Dolls too lol I actually understand how to shop for a jazzmaster now
Hi Akshat. Thanks! Funny how the context of a song can change when one removes a “part from the whole” so to speak. If you take out Dave Grohls vocals the music could be so many things
Notice when both pickups are engaged the guitar is QUIET! All Jazzmasters were. I owned a stock 1966 and it was quiet when both pickups were used. Leo RW one pickup to cancel hum like he did with the Jazz Bass and the post ‘57 Precision Bass. That actually has two pickups. Split coil with one RW.
Nice playing! Watch Nilufer Yanya play this guitar on Stephen Colbert 7-24 19. Her song In Your Head. I have 2017 Professional Jazzmaster with Lollars, but for the money I'd go with the Performer Series.
That was my thought, too. Very thin sound, specifically on the neck. And single coils don't always sound that way on clean amps, I play two Jazzmasters (an ampro and a j mascis) through clean amps and both are much more full sounding. I do dig the strat trem on the jazz body, but I don't know if I'd like those pups based on this demo. Maybe some heavier flat wounds and a height adjustment on the pups would accentuate the low mids a little better.
The tuners on all performer models are total crap and fail very quickly. Be prepared to change the tuners as soon as you buy one as they are not fit for purpose. I bought a Tele and a Jazzmaster and the tuners broke on the first day with both guitars.
I'm secure with my sexual identity but thanks for your concern. In other videos it seems to reflect the color of the lighting which can be very cool onstage. You can see from the wall behind it that they are using pink and purple lighting in this video.

The clarity of these new Yosemite pickups is outstanding. Beautiful guitar, at this price Fender knocked it out of the park with this series. Gas.
At this price? It's not even remotely a real Jazzmaster lol Bridge is horrendous.

The traditional bridge on Jags and Jazzmasters is the reason I would never buy one. This I would at least try.
Agreed they ring like crazy I returned my jaguar for that reason but playing this jazzmaster at GC imo the strat bridge on a jazzmaster is way better

Very Nice sounding guitar, has a nice ring to it.

Ahhh just get a Classic Player or Modified 60th Ann. You get the smoother standard JM vibrato that way.
very weird choice to get rid of the appropriate trem system
I love you
Do you have to shave your head to demo for N Stuff?

first thing I heard was Replacements' Unsatisfied
It's a gorgeous guitar but I can't aford it ;(
Save your money or buy a strat. It’s got a strat trem, no rhythm circuit, and the pickups are basically just strat coils under JM covers.
Huckleberry Finn a JM group on FB posted a picture of these pickups side by side with ones from an RI
Yes but you could easily just get some PV65s or any number of aftermarket pups that no Strat will ever sound like.
Seems to be quite "thin" sounding.

What's the weird box on top of the amp?
UA Ox Box, it's a DI box with really good cab modelling and attenuation.
It’s a UAD OX; takes the amp signal and models a speaker sound. Makes it easier to record
