      In 5 years…
      7680x7680 per eye
Also developers that care about performance and not just make it look cool and hope the person buying can play
The displays should be done as best as they can from the get go and have it as a module so you can upgrade the processor or the housing or what ever it may be
People are more likely to buy improved parts rather than a whole new headset
If dell can do 2 DP inputs without issues then driving 7680x7680 per eye would not be an issue with 2x dp 2.0 ohh and at 120hz minimum

A FOV that hides the edges of the lens, and HDR

    • @commanderoof4578
      @commanderoof4578 2 года назад

@@EinkOLED firstone cant be done even if the lenses where too large for the image being displayed there is still an edge to it (just turn your head)
      Second one being HDR…
Personally HDR sucks the range of blacks and range of whites gets messed with and shrunk and it destroys the enjoyment
Lets say you have 1,000,000 blacks that fade closer and closer to grey… go HDR you just slaughter it to 100,000 best case and even less in most cases
More backlight zones is superior to HDR in ever single way so its better to ask for 50,000 backlights per eye than HDR that most will turn off immediately

Having the ability to change it it's incredible, but also incredible is how Meta is thinking on the devs part by not requiring input from the game to change this distance. It's so aliviating knowing that we don't need to think about it.
I also hope they deliver an SDK to this system because we could enforce the player's focus and that can greatly improve the player's experience! It's pretty neat indeed

He is not charismatic and he is a supernaturally bad actor, but watching him talk naturally about something he's obviously passionate about reminds me he's just a guy. Dude would do himself a lot of favors in the PR department if he'd do this more often and stop acting in commercials.

W.r.t. your point on Mark's persona:
There are significant differences between the audience watching this video versus the rather broad audience of the consumer market versus the many other audiences he speaks to. Perception aside, Mark is CEO of one of the most profitable companies in the world and both the teams involved and himself must very carefully understand and appeal to the target audience.
Think about the target audience here and its demographic composition, which include you and I. Then, watch this video with intent to introspect and analyze what specifically appeals to you. You'll notice even very subtle, innocuous things may be intentional or manufactured for the sake of appeal, driving the overall sales pitch. What is actually manufactured may be his entire persona or just a more aligned adjustment of his natural personality. Nobody will ever know, albeit care.
Regardless, this is not an attempt to instill paranoia. Rather, just a reminder to remain vigilant about what influences your decisions of what types of products or ideas you find attractive, where you're acquiring them from, and their costs. Like many other indoctrinated and heavily integrated things in our society, consumerism is yet another and shares more attributes than just being immeasurably lucrative. The most important being the fact that you're able to make your own such decisions about these things. Don't drink the cool aid. :)
      Cheers!

Of course, we still have to solve transportation/movement (decoupling from reality seems the only way - vs roomscale etc - with some kinda exoskeleton that allows you to run, jump etc... freedom and safety of movement + the visual side perfected would be VR nirvana).

My issue is that I just can't understand the idea of VR making anyone more socially connected. It is an absolutely disconnecting experience, wherein you shut out all other noises and sights and may accidentally punch your dog if you're not careful. Everyone of his innovations seems to focus around the idea of long term, or even permanent use of VR for daily life, interacting with people via avatar instead of in person. This still just feels like an evil plot, to me
I mean I love VR, but I would never suggest that you should have to work in it. Even if there were no issues with comfort, can you imagine sitting in an office with 100 other people, all mindlessly staring around with their headsets on, while you try to get someone to help you with something...
And even if you work at home, are you really going to sit there for 4-8 hours with a headset on, unable to see your kid quietly poking a fork into a power plug, or your dog who snuck into your chocolate stash, or whatever else might be going on?
I was happy with the original Oculus Rift, even, if it weren't for being blind to the world. Until that's solved (and it becomes AR instead of VR), I think he's in a losing battle. I mean, if you have a VR headset... do you use it as a desktop? Why not? The software's there

Damn, minimum 5 or 6 years for varifocal headsets. I'll be 40-41 by then and my eyes won't even be physically able to appreciate it by then. As you age, the lenses in your eyes solidify and you lose the ability to focus on things close up. If you've ever seen an older person trying to read fine print on a small object and they have to hold it far out at full arm's reach, that's why. They can't focus any closer than that. Current gen VR headsets ironically are better for these people as their eyes are effectively always focused further out, which matches with the fixed focal plane of these current gen headsets. At least the younger generations will get to appreciate the advanced tech in the future.

bravo on a non-hype, non-marketing, non-sales pitch vision of VR... instead speaking to the actual engineers, in their actual studios, who are solving wicked complicated problems. The sincerity that each of them have in trying their best to help explain what they're trying to solve was incredibly endearing. Also, somehow Mark is for the first time ever, relatable and watchable. Amazed by this segment. Well done Norm.
