Mr. Corman is a true gentleman. His adaptions of Edgar Allen Poe's classics were an unforgettable part of my childhood. I just wish someone would make a film based on Poe's 'The Gold Bug'-a pioneer detective/mystery story- hopefully by Roger himself! God Bless Roger Corman!
Jim was not head of visual efx for Roger. We had several units and Jim was the head of one of the units. That "Ferrari" model Roger is referring to is the one I designed. Jim designed the interior set, based along the lines of the overall look of the miniature. It was a great set. Like a lot of Roger's stories he remembers things in a very generalized way. The details are where he is not all that accurate.
Happy 90th Roger! I'm afraid I do consider him the king of B movies. However, Hollywood would be a lot poorer if it wasn't for him. He has contributed a lot.
+bukster1 If one were to give him an alternate title, how about the Uncrowned King of Hollywood? Make no mistake...so much of what we have come to accept in mainstream filmmaking started with Roger Corman.
Yes, if it wasn't for Roger we might not have Jack Nicholson or Ford Francis Coppola just to name two. I see Hugh Heffner just turned 90 as well. Clearly they are only a few days apart in age.
Love this! i have acted in 4 of rogers films! it has taken me to the Philippines to work 3 times and from that i was casted in two other films in the Philippines and i have made so many friends there that will be Producing my own films there! i really love this MAN forgiving me a shot! and funny he and i talked a couple of weeks ago about a horror film i am producing and how we will work together in the future!!!
After discovering Roger Corman through "Fall of the House of Usher" AND getting a new appreciation of the man by watching "Death Race 2000", I have become something of an advocate for the man in recent years. To my mind, he is the most important creative behind-the-scenes player that nobody's ever heard of. Happy belated 90th birthday, sir!
Jack Nicholson has been consistently making money for the studios. The Departed was a huge hit as was the Bucket List! Samuel L Jackson is also a massive hit with younger crowds and he is now in his 60's. Morgan Freeman and Michael Cain also do good business. Do you seriously think that teenagers don't know who these guys are? How do you know and Town and Country are crappy rom coms, so is it any wonder they are flops?
I don't completely understand Roger Corman on the age related issue because older actors still pull in younger audience members. It all depends on the story and the characters. He has a point about certain films, but if the story and the characters are great then the older generation are still relevant today! There is a great article about the top earning actors over 35 on the Forbes website to support this.
Roger Corman has also produced films directed by Jay Aubrey who is one of the Executive Producers of Web-Cam. You Can see the Web-Cam trailers on this channel: webcamthemovie1
Yeah, you have a point, but there are exceptions to this. Most of the Expendables cast members are old as hell yet they made a killing at the box office and they would have made more had it been made pg13! I know that a lot of teenagers want to see the shitty twilight series and spoof comedies, but they will still flock to see cool films with older actors.

Such a soothing voice.

Roger Corman is a living legend, I hope I'm lucky enough as an actor to work with him one day.
RIP Roger Corman. The true king of B movies!
Glad to hear Roger credit the story of DEATH RACE 2000 to my old friend, the late Ib Melchior.
He did in fact, directed the best fantastic four movie.
Where can I see it?
youtube.
He did not. How you got that many likes with wrong information?

@@Gottico69 at least his is funny and has a silly charm
The other three have practically nothing of any value except for maybe Michael Chiklis
Happy 90th Birthday Roger Corman
I met him in Monterey California. He would talk to you all day long and mow you lawn if you asked him. Very modest indeed.

A genius and a modest artist
Love this man. A true inspiration.
Corman seems like he should be working at Pixar. I can't believe this is the man who made Death Race.
What a wonderfully charming man.
Great job. Wonderful interview.
Very informative. Good interview of one of my idols.
@monk22yrs Thanks for your reply, Monk!

I could tell the BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS/Jim Cameron story with far more accurate detail.
I LOVE THIS INNERVIEW BECAUSE IM A LOW BUDGET FILM MAKER.

I'm here for the ASMR.
Smart man, cool dude.
Stupid reply! Jack Nicholson was only a supporting actor in How do You Know. It wasn't a flop because kids don't go to see Nicholson movies!
BIBLE TRILOGY?
@monk22yrs Sorry about that...I thought you were some pre-pubescent teen laughing at older folks.
