    Gamer Edition is kind of starting on the same path as the first wave of Studio Series figures when it was first launched like when all the early Bumblebee figures shared the same exact problems and everybody resented that particular figure

    • @galaxycamerata
      @galaxycamerata 11 месяцев назад +17

      Honestly it's a bitter sort of poetic that the Gamer Edition figures are having a lot of the same issues as the FoC ones.
      Lack of reference material, budget constraints, designers being stretched across multiple concurrent toylines... it's all there in some way.

    • @fabiomura08
      @fabiomura08 10 месяцев назад

      @@galaxycamerataIt's baffling that they still have to use outdated concept arts as a reference though.
      If they're unable to properly extract the CAD Models from the game (as I've heard, but I call BS on that one), can't they just watch an HD youtube video of the game instead? 😅

    Imma be honest WFC Megatron is the best Megatron released in years in my opinion. The fusion cannon feels perfect scaled to his arm and isn't hollow, the arm panels are wonderful and the double hinges allow for some expressionism, and transforming him is actually fun. While I think having a full leg bend would be nice, I can't say I need it as Megatron kneels to no one. One complaint I do have tho is that using Barricade's gun on his arm feels loose.

    I feel like Gamer edition does have options beyond WFC/FOC and Devastation, especially as like an excuse line, "oh this character was in this thing for a moment, that makes them viable for this new line", if hound got a movie-themed reissue, they could totally use that Transmetal game to make the transmetals, and more that weren't in the show.
    they could use the live action movie tie-in games as an excuse to reissue the bayverse designs, the DOTM game was made by High moon studios, its definitely plausible, and the 07' games are cult classics, so reissuing their Bumblebee with some game themed touchups is easy money, not to mention those games had characters not in the movies, like Stratosphere, Breakaway, Warpath, etc
    hell, they could just make a bunch of toys based on the Create-a-bot's forms from the DS game, call it like "Rookie (vehicle name here)"

  • @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho
    @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho 11 месяцев назад +33

    I think the problem is that Gamer Edition was basically created as an afterthought. They only intended for WFC Optimus to be released, but then (this is just my theory) ROTB got delayed and they needed to fill shelves with more toys, resulting the very rushed development of Bee/Cliff, Barricade, and Megatron (and it SHOWS with them). This was a great way to -avoid doing the Twins- expand Studio Series beyond the movies.
    What Gamer Edition really needs in the next few years (since 86 seems to be winding down) is to do more stuff from more games. For example, they could use the Armada and TFP games to redo characters who were done dirty (read: Hot Shot and Arcee) or use Devastation to make difficult-to-obtain molds like the Earthrise Battlechargers more easily obtainable. Reactivate seems set for toy representation under SSGE (unless it gets canned out of nowhere), and like with Prime characters in Legacy, maybe the next WFC/FOC/Dark Spark releases will be genuine improvements over Chunklebee, Kibblecade, and Hollowtron.

    So people don’t want figures that are more expensive, with mostly worse accessories, transformations, more hollowness and strangely limited mobility compared to toys from over a decade ago?
    On a serious note, I genuinely want new versions of these figures and these problems don’t apply to every figure but all of them have at least two of these flaws. Just a few more hinges and compression for some of the kibble and all of these could be as good as (or better than) the original figures. I look at these figures and my comparisons are the FOC Skywarp and WFC Optimus, that’s my bar for these to reach. In my opinion, there is 1 good figure, 1 decent figure, and then there’s Bee and Baricade.

From characters repainted as the Decepticon army drones, seekers painted as Thundercracker and Skywarp, Scorponok King, Bumblebee clone that's basically black and red with AOE Stinger's head, and Optimus clone that's basically DOTM jetwing Optimus Prime in Nemesis Prime colors.

    They opened up Studio Series to the original animated movie. Why not open it up to the non-theatrically released animated movies?
    Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising.
    Commander class: Predaking.
    Leader class: Unicron, Darksteel, Megatron, Bulkhead?, Optimus Prime?.
    Voyager class: Sky Lynx, Ultra Magnus, Starscream, Shockwave, Bulkhead? Optimus Prime?.
    Deluxe class: Bumblebee, car Vehicon, jet Vehicon, Smokescreen, Knockout, Ratchet, Wheeljack, Arcee.
    Slip in some Terrorcon versions of the toy only Predacon molds as the background Terrorcons.
    Voyager class molds: Ripclaw, Laserback, Hun-Gurrr.
    Deluxe class molds: Sinnertwin, Cutthroat, Rippersnapper, Blot.
    Core class molds: Blackbeak. Keep it separate from the Darksteel mold.
    Then go to town redecoing and retooling them all into their other uses. There's a lot of potential reuses here that can help to fill the main Generations line, Generations Selects or other exclusives. And yes, have the original Terrorcons still combine.
    Beast Wars II Super Lifeform: Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!
    Titan class: Majin Zarak, Gigastorm?.
    Commander class: Magnaboss set, Tripledacus set, Gigastorm?, Galvatron?.
    Leader class: Galvatron?, Hellscream?, Halfshell.
    Voyager class: Hellscream? Thrustor, Max-B, Autojetter, Autocrusher, Autolauncher, Autostinger, Flash Lio Convoy, Burning Convoy, Apache, Bighorn, Bigmos, Tonbot?, Mantis?
    Deluxe class: Dirgegun, Scuba, Diver, Drillnuts, Powerhug, Scissor Boy, Tonbot?, Mantis?, Scylla, Sea Phantom, Terrormander, Coelagon.
    Tasmania kid is rumored to be coming out in wave one of whatever next year's Generations: Legacy line will be as a core class. So no need to retread that already even though it's most likely just a Rattrap retool. The Seacons will be new molds. Gigastorm doesn't NEED to be a titan as he's not that big most of the time. It's just there's a perfectly good Trypticon mold to use already. I'd love a smaller one though so commander class would be amazing. The combiners could be sold as a set in commander class as that would seemingly have more tooling allocated to it than having them be a voyager and two deluxes each. I'd love a big commander class Galvatron but if TM2 Megatron is any indication, he could be fine as a leader so long as they get rid of the third mode.
    Again, there's a lot of potential redecos and retool options here. Some already are straight redecos or retools of already existing figures.
    With how slowly they do Studio Series figures, these could keep them going for quite a while. It would also keep some commander class options available. If they think about it from the start, they could use Predaking as a base for Dragonstorm too. It's not like Dragonstorm is ever going to be accurate anyway so might as well reuse the other huge, four legged, winged dragon for it. If they really wanted, they could probably also get Cybertron Scourge from it as well. Trade the wings out for giant shoulder spikes, a big axe/tail and the extra dragon heads.

    War for Cybertron also has designs in the DS game that never made it to either of the Cybertron games. There's a pre-Shockwave experiment Grimlock design for example, as well as a conehead design. I do think Game Edition has a lot of potential just with the Cybertron games alone, I mean imagine getting FoC Bruticus out of this line, but they
    *_N E E D_* to get these wack ass attempts under control. Bumblebee's chest looks weird and his legs, even if you ignore how inaccurate they are, are the wrong way around, Barricade might as well just be a brick...
    My only gripes with Megatron are lack of a Decepticon symbol on his back, which would be fine if they just did an easter egg for it like they did with Optimus... which they didn't, the tabs hindering the knee bend, the energon mace not being engineered like Optimus's axe, and his dinky ass cannon. Its more accurate to the Riot Cannon from Fall of Cybertron than it is to his Fusion Cannon, and personally the peg sticking out for it to plug in instead of it being a hole in his arm just looks weird. Plus it could use more paint, I know the point is to let any of the other characters use it but only Megatron could use his fusion cannon in WfC, and only Optimus could use his gun, so they should have painted those.

    Star Wars Black Series has a lot of obscure comics characters and I believe it's doing alright. So, when and if they run out of characters from the WFC/FOC/ Rise of the Dark Spark (iugh) games, they still have the other Activision games (2007, ROTF and DOTM) that have many exclusive characters and alternate versions (Soundwave as an SUV). Even the beloved NDS 2007 Movie game has some designs that would be great as toys. When and if they re-release the High-Moon and Activision games (Activision claims they have the games, so there may be just a money issue) these characters could shine again.
    What other games Hasbro can exploit? You have Forged to Fight, that was revived as a Netflix exclusive, and Earth Wars is still a thing (that has many exclusive characters too). Don't forget Transformers Reactivate, that hasn't come out yet, and the timing fits, if Reactive releases characters in seasons, and the game does well, there could be an influx of characters (with Mad Max-ey vibes, nonetheless). If we go the obscure route, Star Upper is an option (maybe as an exclusive), if they somehow revive Beast Wars after the end of Legacy (if it is a trilogy and not an ongoing toyline like Studio Series). What about Transformers Universe, the ill fated Jagex game? there are lots of designs and characters that are beloved by those who were a part of the beta, but it was never a released game, so that rules it out.
    The other games are mostly tie in games for Animated, Prime and Cyberverse (I am not sure what Battlegrounds is exactly), and if they do figures out of those, and they respect the source material, some people would be ecstatic. I doubt it, though.
    The only good one from Gamer Edition that stood out to me, is Optimus. For me to enjoy Bumblebee took him to be mis-transformed (waist turned around), but Barricade, is absolutely disappointing. Barricade can barely be posed, and I will be cutting lots of plastic to improve him, even if it is a 25 dollar collectible. Megatron, I haven't got it because all of his bad rep.

    I definitely agree that Optimus is fantastic, and that Barricade isn't NEAR as bad as people make him out to be. Bumblebee is definitely the weakest of the group visually, but I've yet to get my hands on him to judge the transformation scheme you complained about so kinda disingenuous for me to comment much further on that. And Megatron LOOKS mostly fine, vehicle mode is MEH but not bad. The QC issues you mentioned do make me a bit wary on it though. That all said I'd say personally the only "stinker" of the line is Bee and to be fair that's an awkward design to engineer in the first place.
    As for the future of the line, there's still plenty of designs I'd love to see them do from WfC/FoC. Shockwave and Soundwave could both go for an upgrade from their original toys, I'd be curious to see a WfC Breakdown, Warpath, Updated Cybertronian seekers, and I would KILL to see the WfC designs of the Aerialbots, Air Raid especially was always a design I loved. Even Zeta Prime could be really cool! Beyond the Cybertron games though, I definitely DO NOT want Devastation representation. Nothing against the game, but I don't want more shoveled out G1 drivel. One of the big reasons I'm into the Gamer Edition line is to AVOID all of that.
    I see some people talking about the Armada game and sure, maybe, but we already have some new versions of that cast anyway in Legacy. Optimus (who's great), Starscream (Who's good), Megatron (THIS is currently my figure of the year), Hot Shot (Who admittedly could use a second run-around). Just get Red Alert, Cyclonus, and please for the love of god Hasbro just bite the bullet and give us Tidal Wave, and you'd pretty much have the entire cast good to go in Legacy, no reason to spin them around and start releasing the Armada figures in Gamer Edition. Weird releases like the Convoy no Nazo Rodimus would be FUNNY and honestly I'd probably get it purely for the novelty of it, and maybe something weird like the Player Character in the 07 movie DS games, or generic grunt enemies from a few of the games (Armada and WfC included) would also be pretty interesting to see how they handle.

    I think it’s ridiculous Hasbro isn’t capitalizing on the unused Bayverse designs.
    Devcon? Protoforms? That one garbage truck? Mountain Dew bot? Oreo bot? Like coke on some of these are so unique and there’s at least 20 unused characters from the movies alone, AND the gamer edition can give us the chance to get game only characters like breakaway and warpath.

    The reason I like the Barricade figure is because of how CHUG he feels. Dated articulation, yes, but does that matter to me? Nah, not at all. Like he feels like a Transformers toy from 2010-2014 and that's what I find charming about him. I do not mind him not having ankle joints but the panels that blocks the hand articulation is a bummer.

    Also I actually wouldn't mind a Comic book studio series because, yes we have gotten some comic book characters in generations but there's still designs we haven't seen. War Within never got a complete toy line and they could probably do those designs better if they weren't titanium releases. I'd love them to take another go at War Within the Fallen but they likely would never hit that one again unless it was a comic book studio series toy line.
    And I don't think they even should try to recreate the cell shading of Devistation. I personally don't think it looks good on real world objects.
    WfC/FoC and Megatron X from that Beast Wars video game are pretty much the only game exclusive designs they could do.

    I think for WFC and FOC there's a lot they could do with it because there are a ton of designs that either didn't make it into the game or characters that only showed up in the DS ports and I'm hoping they can do a FOC Bruticus in a similar style to SS Devastator where it's mostly voyagers. For devastation I think they should make leader scale Insecticons since they were huge in that game for some reason. TLDR I think there's a lot of potential figures they could do and I mean if we live in a world where we can get a mainline detritus before a new earth mode hound then I think they can figure out how to expand gamer edition.

    They should have just named the series "Studio Series: Cybertron Duology Edition" or something because other than WFC and FOC, there are not alot of other original Transformers games that had been released that are not just based on the designs of G1 or from any other pre-existing series. If they had done that we could have gotten more toys from the Cybertron games that we have long wanted like Ironhide and maybe even Warpath. But seeing they are stopping at Megatron and now moving onto other franchises like the comics I feel like it's a huge waste of opportunity.

    I've played the movie tie-in games, and they're not shovel ware hell were they made by TT games and High Moon Studios (you know, the one that made both WFC & FOC!!!).
    There are game exclusive characters to those games (Warpath & Breakaway, to name the popular ones), plus why even stop there? In the DOTM game, you could access the ironically named stealth mode in alt mode. For gamer edition, DOTM toys just have the relevant characters in stealth mode for their alt mode!
    Finally, those games have a good side of generic Autobot and Decepticon cannon fodder. Those could easily be made into troop building sets!

    Barricade is kibbly but it can be worked into some poses. Dumplebee the car is fine it’s a vehicle that looks like a computer mouse but robot mode is just mass of torso then limbs, I do plan on getting cliff jumper to fully judge that mold and I like the red better.
    The voyagers seem to be a bit better Optimus is really nice don’t have megatron but sounds like it’s a mess and after seeing the side by side of old vs new I’m very tempted to get the old.
    We have a 6th on the way and 3 auto bots 2 cons it’s probably a decepticon I’d say starscream or soundwave is the best bet as voyagers. I was thinking of something as a leader but who in the games wfc can you do as a leader I think most characters were at or shorter than prime/megatron or titans

    I don't get why they don't expand Studio Series into Animation Studios and do new figures of the Animated and Prime characters that are actually accurate to their original aesthetic, rather than G1-ifying them to fit in with the rest of Legacy. They clearly don't mind mixing aesthetics in Studio Series otherwise they wouldn't be doing 86 and Gamer Edition characters as part of it. Seems like that would solve the problem everyone had with figures like Legacy Bulkhead and so on. I don't suppose anyone's already suggested this in any of the Q and A's already?

  • @Sundorwave
    @Sundorwave 11 месяцев назад

    So far the only figure that has interested me is Prime but, he's not objectively better than the original that was 1/3 the cost which is a major issue to me. The lack of tail lights are a major flaw since you stare at it all game. And at the price I expected a panel on his back to at least approximate the game detail. Still its just good enough so I'll buy next time I see it.
    On a side note it was funny/sad just how many reviewers back in the day had no clue that the kneepads flipped back to become the tail lights on the deluxe.
    Otherwise they all look cheap and off. I was so excited to have them take another swing at these designs and do new ones. Old megatron was way too small and bumblebee was gigantic. Now megatron is still small with less detail and bumblebee is somehow worse. Barricade just isnt accurate enough for me.
    There are plenty of designs to make into toys but I have my doubts how many we will see. If they improve i would love to see another swing at Bruticus we all remember that disaster.
    The least they should do are Grimlock, Shockwave, Starscream, Jazz and Soundwave as well as FoC Prime and Megatron. There were plenty of multiplayer only characters they could do too. Even Demolishor and Slipstream were in the game's horde mode. I cant seem them improving soundwave. The deluxe is nearly perfect.
    The other games have a few good candidates. Breakaway, Warpath and the drones like swindle from the movie games come to mind.

    • SSGE01 Bumblebee is pretty subpar, and by dumb design decision default, so is SSGE05 Cliffjumper. The old Generations WFC mold was better by far, and if you want something smaller that scales properly, there's the Thrilling 30 Legends class mold.
    • SSGE02 Barricade is a clunker, and he's hollow, but if you ask me, the vehicle mode is wicked cool and would make a pretty good repaint into a Generations Selects Lockdown or a Legacy Animated Lockdown.
    • SSGE03 Optimus Prime isn't a bad figure at all. I don't think it's all that great - it could and should've been handled better, and I prefer the original Deluxe - but it ain't bad by any stretch.
    • SSGE04 Megatron is a turd on a stick, period. By far the worst the line has to offer. The original Deluxe did things better except for the hands...and that's not nearly a reason to even consider the Voyager over the Deluxe. Seriously, where did the money in this budget for him go??
    That said, I don't want to know how the likes of Jazz, Sideswipe, Ironhide, Ratchet, Soundwave, Shockwave (whose original FoC Deluxe was already lackluster), the Seekers, or the Dinobots would turn out here...because we all know that it won't be anything great.
    Devastation...aside from Earthrise Optimus (no trailer, like the Netflix version) & Bumblebee, that game largely ran with the Combiner Wars designs...and I don't think that Hasbro would want to revisit those molds again, considering that Combiner Wars stuff (and Prime Wars Trilogy as a whole) likely doesn't scale at all with Studio Series & WFC Trilogy/Legacy Trilogy stuff.
