  • Taking Rose for her 3rd Inspection on Monday, hopefully a success story. Each time the list gets smaller. Just the lights this time, see the video for more details.
The inspection is very much based on the inspectors interpretation of what he or she believes is right. If they believe something is wrong there is no come back or challenge. The DOT will ALWAYS support the inspector.
For me this inspection system was so much better when run by the government.
Additionally if you cause any angst this can be recorded on your vehicles record making it ultimately more difficult if you choose to go somewhere else, that’s if you can.
Also be aware of pre inspection checks these are a rort. Best going for the real DOT inspection and getting on the roundabout, accepting that the first inspection will be a fail. Take it on the chin and move on.
Rose was registered in another state in Australia until the 18th of December 2023, this is not a barn find that has been unregistered for several years.

Frustrating and different state to state. Good luck and hope you get through this time.

You are right, it's very frustrating, there is no point mentioning any names or businesses or "slagging" anyone off as my wife reminds me they are just looking out for my safety, my wife hasn't got a negative bone in her body. When it gets to the strength of the gas struts I start to think they are "having a lend of me", seat belts, lights yes definitely, no issue here at all 0.002 thou end float and new bearings, surely that would be ok. Anyway, just the lights to get passed now everything else he is happy with, and thank goodness they extended the grace period or I would be up for another AU$124

Good luck with your further visit to the pits inspector. Frustrating, when you set up the front wheel bearings in accordance with the workshop / ROM. I am aware that the MGB & other MGs using the tapered king pin axle need the end float that does create the tiniest of movement unlike other non tapered axles where one simply tightens to a specific torque.. Shame the inspector doesn't recognise this! Seems like the PO was not too clever with the wiring !
(On your previous post I sent a second reply re the plate number which I am not sure you have seen).
    Keep posting the videos.
    Cheers,
    Charles

Hi Charles, Thank you for your comprehensive response, i'll check the other post for your reply. When he saw all the effort I had gone to with the front a rear suspension repairs I expected a little bit more understanding, however as mentioned above seat belts and lights are pretty important. Onward and forward, Monday is the start to a whole new week.

Hi Jeff, thank you for the comment, if you give these guys a hard time you just typically end up in a worse place, once they start adding notes to your vehicles DOT file anybody inspection center you go to in the future has access to these comments. My first MG Millie was inspected three times prior to me taking the MG across the pits by the previous owner, I'm assuming to try and get the MG registered for a better sale price. The inspector knew exactly where to look for the faults with the exception of the structural rust which had been repaired. What's more the inspector wouldn't allow me to see the previous comments saying they were "secret" in not so many words.

We only have one inspection for the life of the vehicle as long you don't put your "Mr. Stupid" t-shirt on, that's the easy part, getting through the inspection is the hard part. At the government DOT testing stations the inspectors seemed to want to get on with you, have a chat and discuss things, since privatisation and dealing with private inspectors personally I feel more like a "stone in his shoe" than a customer paying for a service. It's nice to have a bit of a rapport with any human never mind the inspector, everything is so secret, no conversation its either passed, highly unlikely or it's failed. When you get the fail the inspector I'm dealing with sends the young lady behind the counter to give you the bad news and explain the reasons why, doesn't like to face you himself. Tends to hide in the workshops where you are not allowed to set foot in.
