not trying to sound like a asshole but how did they bounce back. they are still are charging for 2/3 of the roster as dlc bouncing back would be releasing the rest of the characters for free or charging 20 for base game and 20 for the dlc pass. mvci had a ass roster but at least it was complete. i love blazblue games and i was hyped for ctb but i cannot in good conscience support that practice ima just wait till there is a extend version or when its 20.
Raziel Faustus, The base game does not cost $60. The game will cost around $60 or $70 in total (base + DLC) www.eventhubs.com/news/2018/jan/24/blazblue-cross-tag-battle-reportedly-wont-cost-much-more-full-priced-game-when-all-dlc-characters-are-purchased/ So it's essentially "40 for base game and 20 for the dlc pass", give or take.
ok and while 40 is a better price than 60 and in rereading my comment later i feel i may have been a little too harsh put it this way but it still feels like a bad practice. if they had announced 30 at launch and 10 dlc they would have not gotten it as bad but half the roster just looks really bad on their part.
Raziel Faustus I can agree with this, this is totally fair. It does look bad. I will say though that the blow is lessened by the fact that the first DLC pack will be free and the fact that the last two RWBY characters will always be free does help but it does still make the game look rushed for EVO.
and while its still apples to oranges they both used reused assets but mvc2 had 56 at launch so the forty for ctb seems like a low number not to mention the last time a fighter was rushed out for tourneys it took a arcade edition to fix it
Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite is a shining example of why you can NEVER judge a game based on the pedigree of the series it’s from. I’ve seen such a huge step backwards for MVC and even SFV. Capcom fighters have not impressed me in a long while now and I’m really looking forward to how they approach things in the future for those series. I think there’s a desperate need for a “back to the drawing board” mentality. I’d love to see a straight up reboot of both of those series but I know that’s not how Japan rolls so hopefully they can salvage the mess they’ve made with both MVCI and, to a lesser extent, SFV.
Point is, they nailed the hard part of making a good fighting game. The part of it thats good, the ugly ugly meat, was made with such love you can feel it.
Oh you fool. There isint gonna be a next time. Disney doesn't care about polish. They just want a product. Now that this product wont make the money they want they wont let more happen.
Honestly, the funniest bit of this whole podcast snippet for me is Matt STILL being a total salty baby about Blazblue while Pat and Woolie have come to terms with their hatred.
Jason I think Woolie and Pat still don’t particularly care for BlazBlue, but I think they can at least acknowledge it’s a fine game, just not what they like. Matt on the other hand can never let anything go, much like Liam.

Wow. fuck me, Matt was doubling down on being wrong SUPER HARD. I actually forgot how hard the double-down was. Wow. Matt's salt is a thing of legend, how did I forget.
I hate what Capcom has made out of MVC but I'm completely, 150% open to Marvel vs Capcom infinite: ultimate/extreme/remix/whatever the fuck edition. They'll get clowned on a little but if you deliver some hype shit and actually treat you fanbase with respect this time, you'll be surprised how easy people forget. I mean Monster Hunter's out now so I guess capcom could focus a little on revamping marvel
If they do that, they can kiss goodbye their precious DLC at launch/announced at launch forever, since everyone and their mother will be banking on the game underperforming and holding their money until the updated re-release. Specially after UMvC3 happened. What Capcom should have done was to go into damage control mode and give away a couple things, instead of giving people more snark to talk about with their at-launch DLC and having half the final boss behind a paywall. The fact they made no plans to change strategy is actually worrying.
Unless they actually give that new version for free to the current owners including the new characters and a whole art direction reboot they can eat shit and they will in the mind of every fan.
Yep infinite is dying alright. And some idiots that are clinging on infinite needs to face the truth and let it go, for its done for and the damage is still been made.
So a small anecdote; I had the same thoughts of infinite due to all the reviews and pr disasters. However I ended up going to a local arcade and ended up playing a few local matches of mvci and I was actually pleasantly surprised. The game has a very lackluster presentation, it barely looks better than UMvC3, at its best, and at its worst has the GUI of mobile game. That said, the combat is pop your top amazing. Honestly it's really good. They fixed the 1 touch of death combos from the previous games, created the ability to reflect projectiles and ranged them; discouring spamming and chip damage. No X-Factor but you get infinity storms and guts so your comebacks while aided by other factors doesn't feel cheap.
Did they really fucking compare Cross Tag to SNK Heroines and Capcom Fighting Jam? Literally everyone else that played CTB in recent events have said that it plays great.
Dragonage2ftw The only new characters are RWBY characters everyone else is just sprites from other games there redoing the art for UNIB but it's a mugen type fighter.
In 2013, EVO had donation goal to see which game would make the last Slot. It was either going to be Skullgirls or Melee. Melee came out on top in donations. Skullgirls was never in a major FG tourney since then.
That game was already getting shitted on by Crapcom's bullshit, but DBZ Fighters just swoops in yelling "SNEAK ATTACK!" and kicking them in the balls repeatedly.
I find it hilarious that these guys bitch and moan about the running mechanic of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and how it's "rough" and "trash", and I'm like, "Um, where the fuck have you been for the last 17 god damn years? Since Guilty Gear X?" These games have always been about the dashing and the running and being, and I don't fuckin' know, AGGRESSIVE, so the fact that Cross Tag Battle just takes out walking makes sense to me.
Don’t think Matt has ever gotten over capcoms fall from grace, I bet it’s still capgod in his mind, as he said it’s pretty much impossible for him to think a capcom game would not make it despite what quality it is, I don’t keep up with Matt these days so I don’t know if he’s changed but that’s the impression I get from this
I'm calling it now.... they are going to either remove one of these arc system games the next year or they are going to add another slot for Soul Calibur 6. markman is going to find the way to get both of his favorite games on evo...
eventhubs posted the tourney entries for mvci, they were bigger numbers than most of the games that got into evo... seems like something is being left unsaid by organizers
That's because East Coast is Marvel central. Entrants numbers for combobreaker are below Injustice right now, and that was before the Evo announcement..
Sure, but it's not a situation of absolutes and one data point does not dismiss the previous trend. That being said, there's some contradiction in the numbers, the definition of support, and something else that's going unspoken... idk what that unspoken thing is, but don't you think it was a slight to do the marvel hat thing? That came off as a subtle dig to the mvc community to me, but that's pure speculation.
I just find it rather unfair to the other 7 games that ppl are competing in, when it comes to Melee. The game is too niche, probably 20ish dudes or more will compete in open bracket before facing each other for number One cuz it's nearly impossible for a random to pick the game up now and master it. It is hard to find a working gamecube unless you buy it off the net w the game, and try to practice it online ( if you can even find a match ). Hbox, Armada, Mang0 are definitely jumping for joy. Now compare it to those who own a ps4 and a copy of DBFZ/IJ2/any ArcSys game, a player literally has to go through hell and back just to make it to main stage. Im not saying it wont rack numbers for Melee, but to new viewers, they will never know how or why the Melee was cool or awesome to play on cuz its not accessible to the current generation anymore. And to the pros, its just less competition.
So... you hate Melee players because they're masters of their craft? Of course a person who's been playing a game for less than a year isn't going to win EVO. Even if a game is new you need to have years of general fighting game experience just to get out of pools. Melee is at EVO because it's the most popular fighting game edition of all time. If you don't want to see it on stage, you'll have to find eight games more popular than it- and god luck to you.
Never once said 'hate'. I said 'unfair'. And I'll give it to them for being masters in their craft. However, it's almost as if this particular community is stuck in this loop and never wants to adapt or accept, like how Capcom/NRS/Anime players constantly adapting to the ever changing sequels. And a good example is Leffen, who also now has a hand in DBFZ games and succeeding. That is where my respect will go to. Watching players evolve. Not watching the same players playing each other in Quarter/Semis/Finals with the same characters for 10 plus years. As for viewership, like i said, it will rack numbers. It'll be definitely be entertaining to watch. But to play and compete, we'll probably never get the chance to do so.
Melee should die. Every game needs to die at some point and it's ridiculous how much people have latched onto it. It's a good game but it's 17 years old. Put the game down and pick up something new
Personaly i dont boycot mvsci or what ... Just when capcom pop out with the mentality of a call of duty or better..... A league of legend style.. i just stop To feed them all. They do shit with every thing. For me its not a game problem or what. Just dont wanna be a milking cow. I keep money in my pocket =) have fun
Versus Omnibus Soul Calibur 6 most definitely will take cross tag place next year plus I kinda liking the system it's close to sc2 and Sc3 really hated sc5.
Blackzero123 Cross Tag doesn't have the worst pr than infinite. Because at least Cross Tag had announced that Blake and Yang will be free forever, the first fighter pack will be free for a week, and that the whole roster would only cost $70 compared to most fighting game roster prices today and dated back to the 90's. And they announced the english dub is back with even new ones for Under Night, which is unheard of before. Meanwhile, MVCI has the shitty functions vs functions meme and had a WAY more expensive price for their 32 character roster of $90 than BlazBlue. All in all, MVCI has worst PR to Blazblue, end of story.
Why with all these excuses for MvCI not being considered a good game? It isn't Disney's fault, it isn't that it came out at a bad time. It's Capcoms fault 100%. Need proof? Look at the first 2.5 years of Street Fighter V's life. Just like MvCI, the game was released as an incomplete, incoherent mess. And guess what? That isn't Disney's fault. Stop with the shit excuses and blame the source of the problem.
Michael Huffman Blame Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter, who's petty grudge with FOX excluded the X-Men and Dr. Doom, and is notoriously cheap. Look at the rushed, cheap mess that was the Inhumans show as proof of Perlmutter's horrible influence.
stranger59 they could have easily have waited to try to work out a licensing agreement or hell, even put in better Capcom characters other than what they did. Again, I found like this excuse of blaming anyone other than Capcom is a serious reach.
I’m so sad because we’re not going to get another Marvel for fucking years now..........😒😞 Damn. But while my opinion has drastically changed about Dragonball it’s still just my opinion. I is FACT that Marvel Infants was a cheap and poorly made fucking game. No X-Men No Buy!!!!
honestly i hate how fucking horrible the variety this year; again two smash games because melee fans have to be coddled and 3 arc system games. like dbf deserves it yeah but do we really need a game that literally isnt out now for evo, and on top of that a shit load of that game is just older arc sys thing mangled together. on top of that it cuts out kof which is still very active and alive.
But Melee was the third most popular of the big 8 last year, behind Smash 4 and Street Fighter. Why would MrWiz or any high ranked guy at EVO want to remove a game that makes them money?
because there's no reason to keep a 15 year old game this long. It's like if they kept bringing back Accent Core, people would go "why's this here, we have Rev 2". Think about how dumb it is games like KOF14, KI, Infinite, Marvel 3 or something are not at Evo because they won't get rid of Melee.
You say there's no reason when I gave you a good one, it brings crowds and generates money. Melee last year not only was the third in terms of registrations, as I've already said, it was also the fourth most watched, while KOF (since you brought it up) was dead in both these ''categories'' last in the main stage games roster. Melee had almost 4 times more contestants (1435 against 375) in their tournament than KOF and it had almost 4 times more viewers on Twitch (128121 for Melee while KOF only had 32760 viewers) . It would be a stupid decision for MrWiz to just get rid of Melee from the main stage just because it's ''too old'', while it generates more views and cash than the alternative. Money is the end all be all in these kinds of decisions. That's why BlazBlue is there when it'll only be barely a month old instead of any other good fighting game with an already established competitive scene like Marvel or KI.
so we could get 15 Evo's in a row of Melee just to see the same characters and stages and top 5 players winning. Gee, sure glad it brings in the money.

Woolie: No matter what you say about Melee that thing will be there forever!

MrSafior It's always this licensing agreement excuse or just outright blaming disney instead of blaming the source of the problem, Capcom.
I wans't talking to you but of Perlmutter.
I feel like they should have taken injustice out instead of marvel
honestly i hate how fucking horrible the variety this year; again two smash games because melee fans have to be coddled and 3 arc system games. like dbf deserves it yeah but do we really need a game that literally isnt out now for evo, and on top of that a shit load of that game is just older arc sys thing mangled together. on top of that it cuts out kof which is still very active and alive.
unless Disney/Marvel were blocking Infinite from being at Evo, get rid of Melee and put MVCI in.
That’s not an argument.
without marvel it aint EVO
worst evo line up in evo history
