The people that died were a couple (43 & 37) in the house that exploded, from blunt force trauma to the chest and their neighbor, a 29 year old woman, from compression asphyxia. So sorry for their families and friends. 💐

@@gemee1 Explosions do not commonly blow a body to pieces unless it’s a weapon made to do that like a grenade. If they died of blunt trauma to the chest that just means the compression is so strong it crushed their chest cavity affecting the heart and lungs, or the force of the explosion threw objects into their chests and crushed them similar to an impact of a bad car accident.

Odd that this bomb site lines up perfectly with the home that was destroyed recently that lines up perfectly with the airport runway, about a mile away. Evansville resident here. There's been a lot of theories thrown around about the cause of the explosion, from gas leak to meth lab. Our primary gas company (Centerpoint) investigated a few days ago, but came up with no public response as to what caused it. It's been amazing to see the community coming together to support the people affected. Our city has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons recently, first the escaped inmate a month or so ago, and now this.

This has GOT to be a gas related problem. My step-sister lived in base housing with her husband and kids in NV and a house down the street from her exploded due to a gas line problem. It looked *identical* to this in video footage. Also, can meth lab explosions be this powerful? I was under the impression that they mostly blew out windows and burned the people near-by within the building.

I know the jury is still out on the cause, but this stuff makes me question ever having a home where gas is piped in. It's super rare that gas explodes like this, but when it does it's bad bad. And from the initial footage of the explosion seeing how slow everything happens does make me think this was a gas explosion. Too big to be a meth lab, and they would have found evidence of that right away.

Just love it when people draw their own conclusions and condemn something without facts. I love the statement about the dangers of gas stoves.Ever heard of the state of California? You know, the state of over 40 million people who have gas in their homes. Have you by any chance heard or read about all of the fires caused by electrical lines? Seen the videos of the absolute fury of entire cities wiped out by electrical fires? The state is literally being burned to the ground caused by electricity. ANY source of power is dangerous and can cause immense damage. I'm sorry for the homes damaged or destroyed and the loss of life here. But next time all you natural gas haters and experts want to condemn a source of reliable energy for more than a century drive on over to my state and travel through the absolute devastation of towns and forests caused by electrical power lines. And there are more homes destroyed by fire from electrical shorts than by natural gas. Also, natural gas has a very strong and easily identifiable odor added to it to make it more noticeable when leaking. This is unlike that wire in the attic shorting out that can go for hours before it erupts into flame. Finally, don't confuse natural gas with propane. Propane is much more dangerous than natural gas because it is heavier than air so it pools up on the ground whereas natural gas is lighter than air and dissipates in the air. Of course if any combustible substance is trapped in an enclosure it is exceedingly combustible. Sorry for being long winded😟 I just get tired of the bum rap this valuable source of energy gets sometimes.🫤

I have an old house with a furnace from the 1940's, but hey, it worked. Then we had a few inches of water in our basement from heavy rains in May and (unbeknownst to me), the water put out my pilot. So from May until November, my furnace pilot line was dumping gas into my basement (since it was summer, we weren't using the furnace). That's how old houses become bombs.
Fortunately, my furnace was vented outside so all the gas was just going out into the outside. Needless to say, that old furnace is gone now and replaced with a new one.
Of course, I don't know if that's what happened here... but the old stuff sure is dangerous. Especially when the gas meter is located INSIDE the house.
RIP to those who passed on.

People don’t realize what our first responders do for us day in and day out because they love what they do and they are willing to die if it means someone will be safe and they definitely don’t do it for the money they do it because that’s what they are meant to do. It takes special people to put their lives on the line if it means someone will not have to. Their families understand that they might not be coming home at the end of their shift. It’s sad more people don’t thank them for what they do for us every day. God bless them all and the families who lose love ones but they know they died doing what they loved. He was sitting in his cruiser filling out reports because back then they were hand written and some coward walked up to his window and murdered him in cold blood. It was 26 years ago but not a day goes by that we don’t think of him. That’s why I always thank all that I come across for their service and let them know that they are in our prayers to make it home safely at their end of watch. A construction crew accidentally drilled into an underground gas line, it leaked into the basement of an adjoining building, where they believe the furnace set it off. It shattered windows in buildings for several blocks, and could be heard all over town.

OMG this is horrendous. Being a burn survivor I hope those who have survived are not seriously burnt. My condolences to the families and friends and community who lost someone. If you have someone who was burnt just be there for them. 24/7 . It will be the most challenging thing you have ever been through. ALL of you will be in my prayers 🙏. I don't know your name's but I know the pain and heartaches and challenge's you are going to face once the shock 😲 wear offs.
There is nothing you cannot walk through IF you know Jesus Christ God's only begotten Son as your Lord and Savior. He wants to be there for you.
God did not do this , this was a man made error and unfortunately it cost you your loved ones. Again I am so so sorry. 🙏✝️🐑❣️👑

With all things considered it's amazing this doesn't happen all the time. Gaslines are dangerous obviously but maintaining them is where you get into trouble.

I find it hard to believe this was a home gas leak. The leak necessary to cause that initial force would have been detectable for hundreds of feet in every direction by scent over a very long period of time. In addition, homes, especially older homes like these, are not near air tight enough to hold that incredible amount of pressure. Finally, the complete absence of flame in the initial blast and any significant post-explosion fire is not in any way consistent with a natural gas blast. There’s more to come on this one…..

You should have seen at about 10 seconds away from crossing this path go south on Weinbach. My first question was did everything show up at the airport that's a short distance from this bomb site that has a lot collateral damage.

Slow the video down and watch at 0.10 the bottom left of the screen at how the shock wave vibrates the bushes and makes the road at the cross walk look like it bounces.

An explosion like this happened in Evansville 5yrs ago, altho not as severe. They still haven't determined a cause for that one.

What is that sharp insta-flash the split second the house explodes? Right at 11-12 seconds, it looked electric but not. Like static almost.

This happened on Weinbach Avenue in Evansville. I work about 3 blocks away from there and I thought a car hit the building because the explosion was so powerful.
