And also give Jimmy McGriff a listen to as well… He was another cat that I knew back in the day. In fact, I rented my Hammond to him back in the mid 90s. But Jimmy McGriff was really funky.
2 weird "funk music" mentions (no idea if they used a Hammond or samples): George Clinton and Pfunk, and an odd sort of hipster(?) band called Medeski, Martin and Wood. Again: I have no idea which synths, hardware or whatever they used. I just know they created some excellent funk and/or downtempo. Atomic Dog by pfunk is still great. End of the World Partly by Medeski, Martin and Wood is still chill af.
Sounding great man! Drop another one of these without the solo and I'll crank out a sax cover with you... it's been a few years since our JOTW collab. :)
The Hammond B-3/C-3/A-100 series have “harmonic percussion”, which adds a punchy attack to the upper keyboard. So not rhythmic percussion like you’d find on modern keyboards.
The Hammond and that other iconic organs/e-piano are great (The Rhodes piano I think it is called?) The Yamaha DX7 patches(and sample uses) arent perfect, yet they often can attain a very similar sound, if one is skilled.
On funk stuff, I’m playing root notes on the downbeats on the pedals as well as some other syncopated “ghost notes” like an electric bass player would.
I’m playing pedals in combination with my left hand for this one. The feet are accentuating the downbeat most of the time. In funk and swing, playing pedals exclusively is too clunky for the feel. It’s much more feasible in blues and gospel. Here’s a video where I play all pedal bass: ruclips.net/video/FrCTo-785aQ/видео.html
I really like your playing and your way of using the two manuals! BUT you don't need a HAMMOND to get this shitty sound! SORRY!!! Nevertheless "thumb up"
I haven’t tried that one out! I have a Nord Electro 6D and just got my MAG P2 (driven by Keyboard Partners HX3 engine). I have formerly used a Nord C1, Viscount Legend Live, and Crumar Mojo Suitcase. There are lots of good clone wheels these days, but they will never beat a real vintage Hammond. But you are right… the FUNK is all in the playing!
@@ChrisHazeltonB3 The amount of sound engineering required to replicate this sound is either decades of knowledge, or something that is different yet same same (and still may cost some serious money)
Excellent playing. Every blues band out there would want you in their group
Tell them to call me! Haha!
I was waiting for the Lesley speaker to kick in. Great sound and great playing

Fabulous playing. Love that Hammond tone. 👏👏🎶🎶
Me too!!
Thank you for sharing this. I played harmonicas over this clip. I really love funk and jazz/blues, this offers a lot of joy. Peace.
My jaw just dropped. Couldn't handle the weight of the hammond organ funk. Awesome.
I second that!!! Slick man!
wish i could do that...
For some reason, I'm also shaking my butt while listening. lol :) Thank you for the swingy music! 👏👍
i hope to one day be this cool 😂
You make the organ sing! Very cool! Thanks for posting
Very cool!!!! Nice jam!!! I really need to get a Leslie for my A-100!!!
And also give Jimmy McGriff a listen to as well… He was another cat that I knew back in the day. In fact, I rented my Hammond to him back in the mid 90s. But Jimmy McGriff was really funky.
McGriff is my favorite! The stuff on the Solid State label was the BEST!

Magical instrument.... I always adore professionals playing. Could you please play "Lazy"? :)
So badass. Would love to get my hands on some of that in sheet music format.
You have the talent and great finger moves...
Ok, I gotta say that you got the rhythm. Awesome job! Wicked lines.

A počul si už niekedy priateľu ako kúzlil s Hammond organom Marián Varga z kapely Collegium Musicum?
Keep up the posts! Ive relistened to this too many times to count, love it.
Nice to see and hear you on RUclips again, Chris. Used to enjoy your backing track videos for the Facebook group, Jam Of The Week.
❤ Absolut klasse ❤
Absolutely awesome playing on my favorite instrument.
Love it! Great!!!
Brilliant! Love the little finger right hand holding down while the rest of the hand grooves.
I love it!!!!!!!
didn't know you were uploading again! incredible news, love your work
Brilliant. I was a Mod in the 60s.we were into Jimmy Mcgriff and Jimmy Smith ( remember The Cat?)
Damn!! Awsome! 😎😎😎

Mr Ozone begin to play the Hammondo Orugan first time just he waslittle child🎉
Good stuff. I'm guessing this guy is a fan of the late great Jon Lord..
Great! I need to learn how to do that!
Fat and delish! And that lovely bass!!!❤❤❤
I'm feelin that 😊
Sounds so good! I wish I could see what you are doing with the bass pedals.
The goal is to get into a multi cam setup sometime soon!
So groovy!
Nice. A groove you could loose yourself in all day.
Hammond, blues, chris!

Man I wish I could score an organ just like that
Keep an eye open on FB Marketplace for Hammond A-100 series. (Or 101, 102, 105, 112). Deals pop up all the time!
Sounding great man! Drop another one of these without the solo and I'll crank out a sax cover with you... it's been a few years since our JOTW collab. :)
I’ve been thinking I need to drop some extended “Hazersolds”. Haha!
Loveee itt
No keyboard can match THE SOUND offa real HAMMOND H.V.N
HEAR YOU
Yeah baby!
🤙
Aint it funky now!
💐❤️💐❤️😍❤️
The right stuff
ah the sweet B3....always nice.....I heard something like a hi-hat or snare beat.....did that sound come from the organ?
I think you’re just hearing the sound of my pedals that need to be tightened up. Haha!
Que música gostosa de ouvir
Phantastic playing. Phantastic sounding! Is this only a handy recording or do you use a cam with a mic?
Thanks! This is just setting my iPhone 13 Mini on a tripod!
@@ChrisHazeltonB3But there is so less key noise !!!!
Neviem koľko je typov Hammond organov, ale pripomína mi to určitú podobnosť registrov aké používal Marián Varga z kapely Collegium Musicum.
Nice A-100
Very Nice Funky Blues , do you play left hand bass or bass pedals because the bass is so deep🤔?
A combination of both! Pedals on the downbeats and specific accents to give it the “beef”, but left hand for the rest of the finesse.
@ChrisHazeltonB3 That's what I thought Thanks🙂☺️
Use the drawbar settings that you want.
Sweet! Dig this after only 60 sec. Intensity channeling Brian Auger NOT his riffs rather "feel". Insist on live music!
I hear some rhythm/beat on the background. Is that created through the hammond organ?
No, what you are hearing is me playing the pedals rather percussively in combination with the syncopation in my left hand.
@@ChrisHazeltonB3 great stuff. It sounds as if there is a rhythm machine in the background. Caught me by surprise.
Now what you need to do is modulate that from D to the key of E flat that would be bad ass
Helgeeeeeee❤
reminds me of hey Arnold
Super 0:45
Reminds me a bit of James Brown.
Cruz credão !

I thought a Hammond organ is just a organ no percussion like the new electronic keyboard organs? I see you also have a piano in the background.
The Hammond B-3/C-3/A-100 series have “harmonic percussion”, which adds a punchy attack to the upper keyboard. So not rhythmic percussion like you’d find on modern keyboards.

@@ChrisHazeltonB3 Your Hammond costs more than most peoples' cars do lol. Thanks for sharing the sound and skills.
Are you any relation to the late Tom Hazelton who was a great organist?
Not that I’m aware of!
Is he playing the bass pedals? I don't hear any walking bass line.
On funk stuff, I’m playing root notes on the downbeats on the pedals as well as some other syncopated “ghost notes” like an electric bass player would.
The sound is beautiful, but we can't hear your left hand! What a pity!
Really? Give it a listen with headphones!
Clear bass line , love it
Dude…
Good job but how about woolly bully watch it now 😮
cant play the pedals???

Respectfully disagree. There’s nothing like the real thing!
@@ChrisHazeltonB3 Thank you for your kind response! Have you tried the "Ferrofish"?
I haven’t tried that one out! I have a Nord Electro 6D and just got my MAG P2 (driven by Keyboard Partners HX3 engine). I have formerly used a Nord C1, Viscount Legend Live, and Crumar Mojo Suitcase.
