I find that the resmed headgear is better than the dreamware, the DW headgear air tubes on each side are smaller than the resmed and don't carry as much air when compressed due to laying on ones side

I completely love the dreamware with pillows. I love that it makes a smaller holes that goes deeper in my noes, thus less leakage. The dreamware, I couldn't get a seal. So I highly recommend Dreamware with pillows.

Same with me, no leaks with the gel pillows. Proper sizing is critical though as too large and they will distort and too small and the pillow try to go inside your nostrils.

Very new to CPAP, just last week I got my ResMed machine and N30i mask. I have to say that my fears of not being able to accept this whole system evaporated because of this mask. It was quite, comfortable and easy to fit and remove. Because I’m a back sleeper I don’t experience that problem you do with air leaking out the side. So far very happy and my sleep is beginning to improve as are my energy levels.

Just got my first N30i and I had watched your review of the old one. I couldn't understand what big hard piece on the cushion you were complaining about. Now I see they changed it. Only 3 nights in but happy so far.

Been using the N30i a lot since Jan 2020. Surprisingly, while I agree that the new cushion is softer and diffuses the air much better, the original cushion provided me with a clearer air flow in my nose (if that makes sense). Also, I haven't had to tighten the mask to the point where the cushion hurts my upper lip area.
Since I'm not much of a side sleeper, I also haven't had to deal with the leak issue that the original cushion is prone to. So. I'm gonna say the original cushion worked better for me.
Lately, I've been trying the F&P Evora, and it gives me even more airflow and practically no leaks. That mask is a winner for sure. My new go-to!

New one feels great however the quiet vent turns a disgusting color after a few weeks, it looks like mold. Happened to 3 of my vents that were washed with dawn and water. Also the quiet air vent replacements are NOT sold in the USA but they are in Australia for $12.

I've had my Resmed N30i from the beginning of this journey in August 2022. I've dealt with leaks (avg 30l recently, even after changing to a new one every 2 weeks) I religiously clean everything, so that wasn't the cause. I've also had terrible nightly congestion and followed every rec imaginable. I finally started using Ponaris nose drops, which helped, but not enough. I'm burying the lead here, so here's my helpful comment. I watched your reviews on the F&P Brevida and Evora and settled on the Evora. It's ordered and on the way. Thanks for that because I have a Pacemaker and can't use magnets . I NOTICED in your Evora video the opening is free of the nostril bridge. I took cuticle scissors and removed it! VOILA! Sleeping average 7 hrs ( has been 2hrs at a time with me ripping off the mask for all the above reasons) and my leaks are averaging 8L/ min! Thanks for the great video! If I could share a photo of my 30i pillow with the bridge cut out, I would.

Hi Jason, I use this mask every night. It's awesome. I remembered this video and purchased this baby about 6 weeks ago. Thanks for all you do. Received my refurbished DS1 from Philips and it's louder and looks older than the old one. You should maybe do a video slamming Philips for sending out crap instead of new machines.

I hate the n30i, but I like the p30i cushions. They're also now more flexible and have that same diffuser. I have never found a nasal mask that doesn't leak like crazy on me, but the p30i is better than most and pretty comfy

  • @senorcabra8963
    @senorcabra8963 2 года назад +4

The problem I had with the old style was when the pressure came up, as it inflated it would slightly pinch my nose, constricting the airflow into my nares. The hard plastic kept the mask from expanding out, only in. I got my hands on the new style and I love it. I also like the Dreamwear nasal mask, but I'm hedging my bets, in case Phillips gets out of the CPAP business, after their foamgate fiasco.

The hose on top is easier if you are an active sleeper. When you have an elephant mask on and move around a lot you wind up strangling yourself in your sleep. (And it's also really uncomfortable to wake up on a hose under you (back) and around your neck.

I sleep already 5mth with new ResMed N30i CPAP mask. To say it straight i think I was liking old one better, or it is just mater of habit. But new one is softer... And sleeping on side was never issue for me. With Philips one if i sleept on side i was not getting enough air. With this one or older type no issue with that.

I agree - the N30i original style cushions were better than the new ones with the softer cushion and the "quiet vent" that for me, leak so much, it ends up making more noise than the original N30i cushions. And those "quiet vent" thingys on the 'new' N30i mask have to be soaked in vinegar or other disinfectant every few days or they get disgusting.

I don't use a nasal mask, I use an F20. But I can't use the quiet air elbow as it does something to my breathing at night. I've tried numerous times and failed. I wish I could use it because it is quieter and I wouldn't feel the air, but I need the old style. If this quiet technology is integral to the new N30i cushion, I can see that as being a problem for some people.

I'm new to cpap but I bought the newer version of this because I thought it would be best for me as I move around a lot at night. I'm super happy with it and so glad that I don't seem to be having a lot of the problems that others have in adoption. Honestly, it's pretty comfortable and doesn't really bug me. I've never worn the mask type but it doesn't appeal to me.

I have used both the Respironics Dreamwear and the Resmed N30i and I prefer the N30i. I haven't tried the new cushions because didn't they existed until recently and haven't used the new pillows. Haven't had any problems with leakage that i have noticed with the old cushions but I agree the vents are loud. I did made a discovery yesterday when I got my new AirSense 11 that was rather surprising to me. I had used the DreamStation 1 for 3 years and noticed a lot of noise from the air blowing thru the sides and thought that was normal, with both masks. Boy was I completely wrong. The first thing I noticed with the AirSense 11 was there was no noise on the side tubes, game changer. I don't know if anybody has noticed this with the Dreamstation 1. I just purchased the new N30i pillows.

I use the pillows version of this mask (P30) and it's the best thing for me. No leaks and no getting tangled in the hose. My main complaint is that Resmed doesn't sell the little valve/filter part separately as they want you to buy a whole new cushion every time, which is ridiculous. The little holes in the valve start to turn a dark color after awhile, so I worry about getting it clean enough.

    • @WakeUpAmerican000s
      @WakeUpAmerican000s 3 месяца назад

Two things you can do with the crazy "quiet" filters on the ResMed nasal masks.
First, be sure you're washing the nasal cushion every morning with soap (I use Dawn dish soap) and water to remove skin oils etc. It helps to have a CPAP tube brush (buy a set on line for about $15 for a long hose-cleaning brush and a short mask-cleaning brush that last for years) The brush bristles help clean gunk out of the small air holes. Use the brush to clean the side-tubes on the mask frame as well. (1x per week at least)
Also, I have a water-pik device for cleaning my teeth which I use 2-3 times/month to squirt high-pressure water into the air holes on my mask and the mask elbow.
To disinfect & keep the smells in your mask from getting bad, I soak the little plastic filter thingys, or the entire nose cushion, in 50-50 vinegar/water solution for a couple hours every week when I clean the mask frame tubes with the brush.
There is a forum on www.apneaboard.com with more ideas, like how to replace the white material in the little filter, etc. I generally replace the nose cushions every 8-10 weeks as it gets stretched & leaky, but by regular cleaning you can mitigate the build-up of yucky gunk that turns the filter color dark.

Hey Jason…just recently I pulled out my N30i that was in the mask reject pile in the closet. Did three things…first switched from the original cushion to the the new QuietVent cushion…it is very comfortable. Second, the small cushion was too small and the medium was too big. However, the small-wide is perfect (my own version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears). Lastly what I didn’t like originally was the ResMed headgear as it slipped and read the DreamWear headgear works on the P30i/N30i frames. It works brilliantly and stays in place. Oh…wearing wide headband keeps the frame from ripping my hair out (pretty damned important). Now I’m using the Bleep, N30i, and Evora nasal in a rotation. Was recently given a DreamWear nasal cushion mask from a friend and the cushions leaked a lot. It was comfortable but the leaking was a dealbreaker for me. Hope all is well!

I was wearing the Resmed N30i Nasal Cushion (old Style) It fit me nicely and was easy to use. I really liked it. Now I have the new "improved" Nasal cushion. I find it fits nicely but I do have a hard time breathing with the filter in front style. I feel like I'm sufficating. Also, The vent is around the perimeter of the of the nasal filter and it blows on me face all night and also drys my eyes out. I am not happy with the newest style. Unfortunitly my supplier does not have the older style any longer. I am going back to my dr. for a new fitting and probably will end up with something completely different. Good Luck to all you N30i wearers.

I didn’t hate the old N30i but the new one is even better for me. I was able to change from a medium to a small wide now that the cushion is more flexible. The breathing is open and easy- almost like I’m not even wearing a mask at all. No leaks to speak of and now that I am using the headgear with arms from my Dreamwear mask the fit is sublime, no mean feat for a pumpkin head like me. The diffuser is awesome as well.
I’ll likely stick with this one for a long time.

I may have been the first person that pointed out this update to you on the Dreamwear nasal mask review comments (changed my user name since then), but yes, the new version of the n30i is much better. More flexible and quieter, much better. Personally, I'm waiting on the Bleep Sleep Eclipse that I pre-ordered. Can't wait to try it, no headgear and magnetic attachment of the air tubes makes it a great possibility for me.

I had to get them quite tight and my leak was persistently high. I fought with the newer ones for several months. I recently changed to the Airfit N20. Wow. I am happy now. Everything is quieter and my leak is down in the single digits and AHI less than one 😊.

I also hate to remove it compared to the harder plastic version.
Funny how different it is between people.

Her in Germany is although a third configuration: I have the new cussion, but with the "quit air". Instead the "quit air" I have a "hard Plastik inlay with holes" like Ur old cussion. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It's shoots the air straight out, and that's the only thing I don't like. I think about to buy the "quit air" extra ..
By the way: do CPAP supplies deliver to Germany? Or only in us ??? In Germany the CPAP masks (and so on) are extremely expensive.

I used the Philips Dreamwear Nasal cushion mask for over five years and liked it. When Philips issued the Dream Machine recall I registered on day one, and have never received the replacement for my Dream Machine. My RT ordered a new machine. I waited six months for my ResMed AirCurve 10 Bilevel and I absolutely love it! With the new machine, I switched to the ResMed N30i which I ordered online (the Fit Pack). With the new machine and the extremely comfortable N30i, I have scored consistently 95% to 100% nightly since April 2022.
I think the N30i is much better constructed than the Dreamwear Nasal cushion mask. I had a problem with the DW nasal cushion leaking and also causing blisters under my nose. With the N30i I've experimented with S, M and SW nasal cushions, and all feel great, but I will probably stay with the Small next time I order. I can sleep on my stomach with my face buried in the pillow and I LOVE IT! I like the mask with the hose connection on top because I turn a lot in my sleep, Tele-tubby style. Thanks for your great reviews!

I DESPISE the new cushion. Hated it as a tester and hate it still. The center piece is so flimsy it tears after a couple of uses, and most insurance companies won't replace the nasal cushions that often. Mine only replaces them ONCE A YEAR. Leaving me with a cost of $35 every week or two now. Quiet doesn't much matter when you can't afford to use your machine.

I bought the new version a few weeks before you produced this video (replacing a Swift FX which I heard is being discontinued). I didn't like it for a similar problem that you had. I could not keep the holes in the nasal cushion aligned with my nostrils as I tossed from back to side. I replaced it with nasal pillows, making it into a P30i and am quite happy with it now. I will still use the Swift FX for travel until I can't get replacement nasal pillows anymore.

First of all, I hate wearing CPAP mask. I switched to an expensive oral device that worked reasonably well for years, but then didn't. My blood pressure went up, heart rate increased, yada yada. Reluctantly, I went back to the CPAP machine. Kicking and screaming actually... I was pleased to see the progress made in the past 5 years I stopped wearing it, but I have yet to find a good fit.
I love the hose on the top of this mask, which prevents me from getting caught up in tubes during the night. I also love the comfort of this mask and the fact that I don't look like I've been in a horrible car crash, due to strap marks across my face all day. However, I am also a side sleeper and I get A LOT of leakage with this mask that keeps me up all night. I only have one more try and I'm hoping to find something that works well for side sleepers with all the benefits of this mask already mentioned. I also tried the Fisher & Paykel Evora with the same leakage issues and the addition of feeling like someone hit me in the nose with a hammer, due to the hard piece of plastic in the nose piece digging in my nose all night. It also left slight strap marks. Sigh...
Is there anything similar to this mask that doesn't leak? Feeling very frustrated.

I'm a big guy and the ResMed is a better fit than the DreamWear because of the accordion like top, I could not get the DreamWear to sit properly because it was too tight and the extra spring of the ResMed made all the difference. That being said, after having tried the N30i, new version, I now use the P30i as it almost eliminates air leaks.

The N30i is better designed overall than the Dreamwear EXCEPT the cushion on the N30i (1) cups the nose and tends to squeeze the nostrils and (2) if you put the N30i cushion next to the Dreamwear cushion, you'll see that the N30i cushion is significantly taller and therefore can slide forwards and backwards much more. The ideal...for me....would be the Dreamwear cushion on the N30i mask but, no surprise, they're entirely incompatible. For the cushion reason, the Dreamwear is still my go-to.

This is the mask I wear. I ordered a replacement cushion from Amazon and got the original. NOPE. It (the 2021 n30i cushion) does leak a lot less than the dreamwear version, but the dreamwear is my backup. I'm a side/tummy sleeper and, for the most part, have learned how to smoosh my face into my pillow to prevent leakage.

I have both of those and don`t mind the old version at all except for all the air that blows out of the small holes like you said.
The new version feels to me that hardly NO air comes out of the vent and makes my water in the tank last much longer in my opinion. I really like it too.
    Thanks for your reviews!

I’m so happy to see you now recommending the n30i. I chose it over the Dreamwear 3 years ago because of the quick release being so much easier to use when getting up to pee. But just this week I am now using the Dreamwear because I received my Medlock magnetic quick release! The dreamwear is better made silicone and gives a good seal. The n30i nose pieces kept breaking in half on me. That is a lot of money to see go down the drain. I even tried repairing them but the repairs wouldn’t hold or seal properly. I haven’t tried a new nose piece yet but I may give one a shot. I wore the Philips arm headgear on my N30i the entire time as it fit perfectly under my ponytail.
I’ve read from some that the new piece isn’t the same seal so anyone who previously tried this and had trouble with the seal might consider trying the redesigned nose piece. I also saw ResMed’s claim is 38% quieter with the new filters on both the elbow and the nose piece. It definitely wasn’t a quiet mask before so that’s a selling point for anyone who likes a quiet room. I live in a wind tunnel with 3 fans and a mini split so it was no difference to me.

I don't like the hose coming off the top of the head, either, I prefer it coming out the front because I'm a dedicated side sleeper. I don't use OSCAR, I use myAir; OSCAR isn't available for Android. When I started using CPAP, going on three years ago now, I used a nasal mask (AirFit N20). It's a good mask, but then my pressure was increased and the nasal mask just didn't cut it anymore so I switched to a full-face mask. I've been using the AirFit F30 for over a year now, and I really like it.

I loved the ResMed N30i for 3 years before they screwed it up by re-designing the nasal cushions. In 15 months of trying to find a way to keep the "new" cushions from leaking, I've given up. Building and modifying headgear helped a little, but the softer cushion with the smelly little plastic insert filter thingy just doesn't work for me. I could not get my leak numbers under 20 for the life of me. My partner was unhappy with the louder hissing of the always leaking cushions, and helped me call around to see if I could find a source for the original N30i cushions. No joy.
I'd already abandoned the PR Dreamware mask when I'd discovered the N30i, so not going back there. Now going through the mask discovery thing I got very tired of back in 2013. The new generation of "full-face" Hybrid masks looks promising.

Apparently I'm in the minority. I loved the old version, and I dislike the new one. It leaks like crazy, so I have to tighten the mask straps so much that they leave marks on my face. I never had that problem with the old one. I only sleep on my back, so that's probably why the hard plastic never bothered me. I'm seriously considering switching back to the Dreamwear.

You are not in the minority. My provider said that almost half of their n30i users switched to the p30i because the n30i "upgrade" was pathetic. Major leaks. Resmed doesn't care, though. They make more money on the p30i and the new n30i is cheaper to manufacture.

I’m a woman. My Dreamwear mask with the hose attachment on top of my head has made a hideous cow lick on top of my head that I can’t get to go away. Also , the silicone grabs and pulls my hair out of my head. This top old head hose connect is good in some ways but for me the trade off is what it has done to my hair.

I am new to the CPAP world by 3 days. They gave me this mask... by the third night I felt it was leaking so much, when I looked at the nasal cushion in the morning , the centre piece of silicone was ripped. Therefore it's useless. This was only my 3rd night! Have you seen this problem? I am a side sleeper.

  • @JamesADoty

I just started using a CPAP machine on the 8th of this month and I was sent a ResMed Airsense 11 with the updated N30i headgear and nose pillow. So, I don't have anything to compare it to. I'm using the small nose pillow which was recommened by the sizing chart that came with the headgear. I seem to get a lot of leakage and I'm playing with adjusting the fit of my headgear in an attempt to correct it. Again, I'm new to this, but I find that my nose really hurts when I wake up in the morning. I'm hoping my nose toughens up before too much longer.
I'm told my body will adjust but I find that my mouth plops open when i sleep and air rushes out of my mouth and wakes me up. I'm trying to train myself to not let this happen and I've made a small amount of improvement since my first night. But I'm still waking up due to mouth breathing. This is just an observation as new comer.
I think the headgear is comfortable. I thought I'd be bothered by it but I'm not. Though with my headgear on I look like the worst Teletubby ever. :)

I use to have the Dreamwear and liked it a lot, no leakage problems. My new supplier does not offer the Dreamwear so I got the N30i and hate it. The N30i has a divider piece between the nostril that just does not work for me and I think the angle of the cushions are different plus now I have a major problem with scalp sores from the headgear that will not go away. If my supplier can't get me a Dreamwear I will have to switch suppliers again. That's a pain. I always had a good mask fit with the Dreamwear but now I'm showing mask fit problems every night.

Thanks for this info. I must say I am not a fan of the new pillows. They seem to stretch out. I find myself having to readjust the straps just about daily.I called ResMed to enter a complaint and found I was not the only with this problem. I understand the softer pillow is more comfortable, but I sometimes find myself waking in the middle of the to tighten straps. They suggested I contact a local supplier. I did and they don't have any other pillows for this mask. What I love about it is the hose on top of my head. It doesn't get in my way while sleeping. Any suggestions?

I'm trying the N30i. It's looking like the cushion is too small (I have a wide nose and it looks like I need a small-wide). It may be compressing my nostrils, but beyond that I dont' feel like I can exhale fully with the new "diffuser" port and I get lightheaded. (It's not CPAP lightheadedness, I don't get lightheaded with a full face mask). I have seen a lot of people complaining about this exhalation issue. It's a bummer as it otherwise seems to fit. I'm annoyed that when I did the sizing/fitting appointment at the DME they didnt' offer me the Dreamwear nasal cushion to try (I didnt' know it existed at the time). Finding the right mask/cushion is exhausting.
