I have very poor memory retention and haven’t played the game in a while, though, I recall the Headless in the Sunken Valley leaping towards me when I ran far away from him. I believe I attempted to parry the jump attack with just the sword itself (which in retrospect was a bad idea; should’ve used Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella) and ended up dying. I’m still unaware to whether or not the attack can be deflected since I never encountered the move again.
Given that you have to use a confetti, it doesn’t sound worth it. Better to dodge and use the confetti to attack. It’s just a fun fact that it’s possible

Something I always loved about Sekiro is that, besides the dragon blood given to him, Wolf really and truly is just a normal dude with a sword and a lot of skill fighting stuff he has no buisness fighting. And when he does fight them he's jus like "I wanna see if I can deflect that..."
And unlike Godfrey and the like his tengu skin shows that he has an extremely average build (even if his forearms must be stronger than anything alive)

We've been trained our whole lives to recognize what is and isn't man-sized/parryable/blockable attacks and to evade them, only to find out later that there are super-complicated or difficult ways to outright block giant meteorite projectiles or deathrays
I mean, who would actually think of parrying a fart? Not me. And the Devine dragon sword I mean come on, even if you suspected you could parry it, you need Dragon God sized balls to even attempt to parry a sword swing from a skyscraper sized Magic sword.

What baffles me is that she didn't do shit to help sekiro against owl in the good ending. She know who she was challenging and the risks too. If she didn't challenge sekiro, he probably would have left both kuro and Emma alive.

Somewhat related: Father Owl's shuriken spread builds his posture when deflected. I've finished a few fights by parrying at range and immediately getting teleported in front of him for a deathblow.
I've always taken it for granted but can we take a sec to note the fact the guardian ape literally squats, shits in its hand, leaps 10 feet in the air, and dashes the shit at you
You can stealth deathblow that shichimen warrior from above btw, but you have to aggro it first. You know it's aggro'd when you approach its area and its health bar appears for a moment then disappears again + the music comes on then disappears. Sometimes all you have to do aggro it is to scale that cliff above it then you can deathblow. If you tried the stealth deathblow and it didn't work, then you have to run away downriver to the big tree where the wolves are, loop back around and do the stealth deathblow again. It will 100% work that time because the shichimen warrior was definitely aggro'd by your presence.
Little hint, try to kill those dogs nearby or there's a probability that one is gonna hit you with a bolt while you're fighting the warrior. Has happened to me many times.
You don’t know how much seeing this helps I’ve died countless times trying to avoid the laser from the shichimen warriors and all you had to do was deflect it 🤦🏻♂️😂❤️much love man
Here's another fun fact that might help you: If you're as close as you can be to the shichimen warriors, neither their lasers nor the attack shooting several small curses can hit you. The attack comes from the tip of their weapon, missing you entirely if you're that close. Since figuring that out, I just whack them with divine confetti until they disappear, then immediately run to the other end of the arena, allowing me to get close enough to hit them before they can fire the laser. But I will use this new information that they're deflectable in case I mess up the spacing. :)
he'll always use the laser after teleporting and you're either gonna be close enough to run right at him (it'll miss if you're close enough) or simply run left/right (90 degrees compared to the beam). I don't really see how you can have trouble dodging it tbh unless you're like, jumping around randomly idk

It astounds me the dedication and love for a game a gamer must have to find these secrets out. Folks figure some through repetitious playing but never the sweet spot to imitate what they found again or solidify a golden nugget in practical play. Kudos
Fun story: the first time I fought divine dragon I actually thought the roots with lighting on them would harm you, so I deflected his attacks until I realized you couldn't break its posture that way.
That would be cool, but would also require a unique parry animation for Wolf, one where he does the parry and then uses the blade of Kusubimaru to deflect the Laser at an angle. Really great idea, but game devs don't like doing stuff like that because it takes more work. Especially for something that few people I'm sure even bothered to attempt. I know I've never tried to deflect the laser beam I just ran around it.
Monks landing I actually knew! After grinding the fight so many damn times, you learn how to sneak in as many hits as possible to make it fast. You can run in and safely get 3-4 good hits in or a mortal draw if you parry that intro pose.
In my second run through Ashina Castle I parried the kite boy, and it made me feel like I had ascended. Then daddy owl beat me to submission a few times

It took me so many hours to get it into my head that basically any attack without the perilous attack kanji can be deflected, only to learn in the last week or so that some perilous attacks can also be deflected but the timing required is far more strict. I do want to go on the record though; parrying a fart just doesn't make physical sense, like even less than parrying a charging multi-ton bull or terror laser.
@@ttchme9816 what I meant is that it should be instantly clear if you can deflect an attack or not. Like in devil may cry, if you activate Royalguard when you would take damage, you can block it. No exceptions, if you try to RG and get hit, you know you misstimed it. Otherwise it sucks to not be sure whether you can block it or not.

Everybody forgets that we have learnable skill called "mid air deflection." A lot of times it's safer to jump sideways while parrying than dodging sideways because stupid sekiro can't fucking dodge and parry at the same time
Actually, I kinda knew about the monk's landing because it happened to me by accident. I was running toward her as one of many attempts but because I was thinking about something else, I got surprised by her landing and though it was an attack so, I just deflected out of panic. To be fair, I wasn't even sure I did. I saw the visual effect and was like "Did I just parried her landing?" That video answered my question.

I had to watch some videos to realize Guardian Ape throws its 💩. This game demands so much focus on the fights that sometimes you can’t even see details like that. Same applies to its terror scream. I had to read on Sekiro videos that Guardian Ape puts his head on his neck again to scream. This game is a masterpiece, so many beautiful details 😮
You can also parry Demon's fireball attack (still take heavy chip damage but not as much as normal and you get the animation of Wolf planting his sword in the ground while being knocked backwards). Also, Owl's gunpowder attacks can be deflected (also for small chip damage), Snake Eye's grab attacks (the timing window is tiny though), and pretty much literally anything that isn't a grab or sweep attack can be parried. It really is just the "one solution for all problems"

It's pretty common to see in speedruns, they go up to get his head down and Mortal Draw it to get extra damage in.

idk why but I found that Great Shinobi Owl is harder than Owl Father.
You can also Anti-Air DeathBlow Shichimen. Making him one of the quickest Boss battles in the game.

If I only knew that you could parry terrors when I was younger my life would have been easier.
Actually, I kinda knew about the monk's landing because it happened to me by accident.
I was running toward her as one of many attempts but because I was thinking about something else, I got surprised by her landing and though it was an attack so, I just deflected out of panic.
To be fair, I wasn't even sure I did. I saw the visual effect and was like "Did I just parried her landing?"
That video answered my question.
Hey Ongbal - do you have any advice for deflecting quick double hits like the ones that the dual katana monkey or dual glaive monks use? Been trying to learn it but it seems very inconsistent...
Is it possible to learn to do it consistently?
That quick double attacks parry timing is extremely tight.
I recommend using umbrella :)
This guy will never run out of idea when it comes to sekiro.
The umbrella deflects like everything in the game depending on which one.

On my first playthrough I actually completely filled the divine dragon's posture meter before realizing its gimick
You know this game is serious about deflecting, when you can deflect the, um, ape's gas cloud... :D

Holy shit, been playing the game since day 1 and didn't know you can do all those stuff (except for the poo and the dragon sword since I've known them for a long time). Fantastic work, man!
Knowing that I can parry the flaming owl is gonna make fighting father owl so much easier because I always end up jumping too far and can’t pull off the mikiri counter

I had to watch some videos to realize Guardian Ape throws its 💩. This game demands so much focus on the fights that sometimes you can’t even see details like that. Same applies to its terror scream. I had to read on Sekiro videos that Guardian Ape puts his head on his neck again to scream. This game is a masterpiece, so many beautiful details 😮
I didn't know you could parry the schimen's laser normally. I always did it with the umbrella
I actually didn't know about shichimen or innner father's phoenix. Thank you! I can now face inner father with confidence!
You can also parry Demon's fireball attack (still take heavy chip damage but not as much as normal and you get the animation of Wolf planting his sword in the ground while being knocked backwards). Also, Owl's gunpowder attacks can be deflected (also for small chip damage), Snake Eye's grab attacks (the timing window is tiny though), and pretty much literally anything that isn't a grab or sweep attack can be parried. It really is just the "one solution for all problems"
Parrying the monks landing is just a flex since your gonna be parrying everything else anyways.

Sekiro can every parry emotional damage, thats how good he is
