My favourite Atari game. If I only had enough money to pay the rent & this modern version came out I would buy it anyway! I thought the original alien was scary as fuck. Just imagine what they could do!
This is a game where timing is everything. The anticipation when waiting to see whether a stranded pilot knocks to gain entry to your ship or an alien ready to spring up and break through your cockpit windshield is the real allure of this game. I don't think I've played a game where the timing trumped any and all of the finest graphics produced.
For me the best thing about the original was the sound. It doesn't even need altering that much. Atari had it way ahead back then, especially compared with the C64 version. Even the alien appearing sound was hell scary with Atari!
The original game did a good job of placing the downed pilots in valleys/ravines, so you had a fairly flat place to land. Landing on the sides of mountains to pick them up feels weird.
My favorite Atari 800XL game. First game on side B, loads (counter) from 005-230 (if my memory serves me). To bad this remake wasn't made using Unreal Engine 4 + Quixel Megascans... I can only imagine how good could this terrain and atmosphere look using Megascans library, and UE4 graphics.
The remake is clearly less playable, and has many simplifications compared to the original. It is a pity, because it could be really interesting with such graphics.
One of the best Atari games IMO. Can't wait to get MY hands on a remake of any kind!

Sadly, many remakes are terrible...better graphics do not always improve the experience.

Magnificent recreation! Looking forward to future updates! :D
Looks awesome. This was my favorite Atari 5200 cartridge. Can't wait to see the pilot and alien animations!
_Why am I only just now finding out they did a remake/reboot of _*_Rescue on Fractalus?_*_ One of my all time fave games from back in the early days!_
I only came here because I was looking for 8-bit footage, didn't expect there to be a remake. Thanks Finnish guys for bringing this to our attention!
I remember this game one of the first simulators for the spectrum 128k good for its day
Back in the day, the original was mind blowing...especially considering the eight bit hardware. I also loved Eidolon as well from Lucas Arts.
Koronis Rift was good too.
Same here, fractals gave an endless, natural feel to it that I couldn't get from vector-based games. I played Eidolon a lot, too, because dragons.
BallBlazer was a blast
What an ambitious game to be on the 5200.
Amazing!
Is the working title "Behind Smoothi Lines?"
Rescue on Gouraudus :)
Fractalus 0.9 has just been released and it's even better still... Luke is a superstar for reworking on this old fantastic Atari classic.
Agreed! Great work, Luke!
We never got to see any of the aliens 😓
Not yet in this version of the remake. Watch this space: www.lsdwa.com/projects/fractalus/

Yeah, Lucasfilm had a nice habit of Atari bangers. For sound, as in music, BallBlazer was Belting.
Slight upgrade in graphics
Atari 5200 game console is same to Atari 800XL computer. Wow, new graphics in year 2018. Fractalus 0.8 for Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Looks like it was updated in 2020, cool!
Gorgeous remake!
dang, the remake looks great! I love the original (Atari 800XL) and it's place in computing history but that remake is one that is worth getting
so awesome!
Need Version for ZX Spectrum next
They look the same to me. Which screen is the Atari? :-)
Spectacular work here. Looks incredible.
Great !!! Where can i get it? ( PC Version) ??
www.lsdwa.com
Hell yeah!
You should have shown the original game played on an 8-bit Atari computer expanded with Rapidus accelerator. That would be a true comparison.
WOW :O
I would of never imagined anyone would remake Rescue on Fractulus.
What platform is this on? PC? I hope it goes to Xbox Arcade or something :D
:) It's on Windows/Mac/Linux: www.lsdwa.com/projects/fractalus/
yeah where can i get this?!?!?!
Fallen angels on the Atari Jaguar

Agreed, luckily things have improved since in the remake too!
The remake is not awfully crappy, so little thumb-up for that!
Should have done a low poly version. To match. You did low graphics on ship but landscape, and sound you beef it up and the two clash.
I would like to speak with you about a serious production.

Iiiinnnnteresting.
No alien? Cheater! ;)
There are now, in the later versions. :) www.lsdwa.com

Just be grateful that someone has took the time to remake it!!! Ungrateful bastard!!!
Any updates in this matter???
Yes! www.lsdwa.com
Woo looks amazing!

It is still under development, though, and has been updated since. :) www.lsdwa.com/projects/fractalus/
Check out the current version. The game is pretty much feature complete and a faithful re-creation of the original.
