    - GRAMMY-nominated guitar superstar Joe Bonamassa released his brand new solo album Different Shades Of Blue (J&R Adventures) on September 23, 2014. This is Bonamassa's first studio album in two years and the first album of his career to feature all original material. The result is a record with more of an experimental edge than previous Bonamassa records. It's a blues record that explores the outer reaches and the many different sounds that shape the genre.
    "It's been a while since I've been involved in the writing on an entire album. So I decided I wanted to make a completely original blues album," said Bonamassa. "I've really had to push myself to make everything I do better than the last project. I know the fans expect it. And I feel like I owe it to the fans to give them an original record after all these years."
    To prepare for the record, Bonamassa took 2013 off from releasing any new studio material, a rarity in the tireless bluesman's career, and instead spent time in Nashville writing with Jonathan Cain (Journey), known for hits "Who's Crying Now," "Open Arms," and "When You Love A Woman;" James House (Diamond Rio, Dwight Yoakam, Martina McBride), and Jerry Flowers (Keith Urban).
    "The writers really inspired me, and having access to really great lyricists and songwriters made it such a great experience," said Bonamassa. Recorded at Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, Different Shades Of Blue was produced by Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), who has helmed Bonamassa's last fifteen projects including his solo projects and collaborations with Black Country Communion and Beth Hart. To complement Bonamassa's signature guitar style and vocals, Shirley brought together a group of musicians including Reese Wynans (organ, piano), Carmine Rojas (bass), Michael Rhodes (bass), Anton Fig (drums, percussion), Lenny Castro (percussion), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, trombone), Ron Dziubla (saxophone), the Bovaland Orchestra (strings), and Doug Henthorn and Melanie Williams (background vocals).
    "It's definitely my favorite Joe Bonamassa record to date," said Shirley. "It's an album that deserves to be listened to in its entirety. Luckily Joe's fan base really seems to appreciate a body of work and not just songs."
    Each year, Bonamassa strives to deliver something new for his fans to thank them for their loyalty, dedication, and enthusiastic activity on Twitter, RUclips, Instagram and Facebook which has helped grow the guitarist's reputation exponentially in the U.S. and abroad.
    Shirley said, "I think Joe has learned the value of not underestimating his audience. He plays music as well as he can, and always tries to bring music of depth to his audience. We try very hard to make the records as multidimensional as possible and really try not to cut any corners in delivering them."
    Bonamassa has twelve #1 Billboard Blues Albums (more than any other artist) and received his first GRAMMY nomination in 2013 for his collaboration with Beth Hart on the duo's sophomore album Seesaw. His 2013 solo acoustic project An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House was nominated by the Blues Music Awards for Best DVD and his 2009 DVD Live From The Royal Albert Hall recently received RIAA Platinum Certification.

    Joe is the proof that you can play any guitar and make it sound great. Here he is, playing the toughest and most honest and revealing guitar: the Fender Telecaster and he still makes it wail and sing.

    There may be more technical guitarists. There may be some who are faster. But for my money, this man was born to play the blues. If you listen to his stuff through the years, you realize the guy can play the phone book. Rock, blues, jazz... he's taken guitar to another place. Derek Trucks is his only real competition. Everyone else is falling behind.

    Man i wish the camera hadn't cut away to the drummer and organ player at that particular moment. Missed some of the best sounding guitar work. This video is still a gem tho. Its footage like this that retains my interest in music/blues/guitar. learning to tear up my stratocaster has been my most fulfilling accomplishments. I wont ever stop playing thanks in part to inspiration like this.

    12 people on planet Earth thumbed this down - I'd be surprised if they actually have thumbs! I haven't got this record yet but that's some of the best playing I've heard from JB for a while. No harm dropping that fat LP tone - the tele cuts through & it sounds fantastic.

      anyone is kidding themselves to think that for 1 minute JB is "back on Fenders". He uses them when their tone is appropriate for a fill -in or a solo on a particular song but JB will always mostly use Humbucker guitars LP,ES 335, FB with the Les Pauls being predominate..........as it should be.......note the avg to good Blues guitarist's today and past play(ed) Fenders especially Strats the everyman guitar (ok I'll give you Jimmie and Stevie Ray)..the GREAT Blues guitarists play(ed) Gibsons (RIP Duane Allman..Gary Moore), Peter Green, Freddie King, BB (that tone /vibrato don't come from no Tele), Derek Trucks, Warren Hayes, Dickie Betts, Carlos Santana in early years with SG, ( his PRS has humbuckers) Clapton was a much more innovative, creative, in your face guitarist when he was playing Gibsons.......with Strats he plays the same licks over and over all the time. He's much better when he picks up an ES 335 now and then, wish he would more.
      BTW Joe B uses 19 guitars on this new album. LP's, ES 335, Firebirds, Strats, Tele's, Martin, Gibson Acoustic, Guild. Who doesn't love an old Tele but let's not compare them to a 59 Les Paul with PAF's Joe's main guitar and the Holy Grail.

    Wow! What a great moment captured on tape! I don't care how great a guitarist you are, if you were in the next studio your jaw would drop if you overheard this. I've done studio work and I know my jaw would drop.

    • @mydogspet
      @mydogspet 9 лет назад +2

      I remember someone famous was recording in the next room (Jackson Brown? - can't recall) when Eric Clapton and Dwayne Allman were doing the Layla sessions. Everyone in the studio supposedly dropped what they were doing and went over to see what was happening next door. I think something similar happened when Jethro Tull was doing Aqualung. Vague stories in the back of my mind. Does anyone recall the true stories?
