The Official Music Video for "Different Shades Of Blue."
CD was released in the U.S. on September 23rd and in Europe on September 22nd, 2014
- GRAMMY-nominated guitar superstar Joe Bonamassa released his brand new solo album Different Shades Of Blue (J&R Adventures) on September 23, 2014. This is Bonamassa's first studio album in two years and the first album of his career to feature all original material. The result is a record with more of an experimental edge than previous Bonamassa records. It's a blues record that explores the outer reaches and the many different sounds that shape the genre.
"It's been a while since I've been involved in the writing on an entire album. So I decided I wanted to make a completely original blues album," said Bonamassa. "I've really had to push myself to make everything I do better than the last project. I know the fans expect it. And I feel like I owe it to the fans to give them an original record after all these years."
To prepare for the record, Bonamassa took 2013 off from releasing any new studio material, a rarity in the tireless bluesman's career, and instead spent time in Nashville writing with Jonathan Cain (Journey), known for hits "Who's Crying Now," "Open Arms," and "When You Love A Woman;" James House (Diamond Rio, Dwight Yoakam, Martina McBride), and Jerry Flowers (Keith Urban).
"The writers really inspired me, and having access to really great lyricists and songwriters made it such a great experience," said Bonamassa. Recorded at Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, Different Shades Of Blue was produced by Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), who has helmed Bonamassa's last fifteen projects including his solo projects and collaborations with Black Country Communion and Beth Hart. To complement Bonamassa's signature guitar style and vocals, Shirley brought together a group of musicians including Reese Wynans (organ, piano), Carmine Rojas (bass), Michael Rhodes (bass), Anton Fig (drums, percussion), Lenny Castro (percussion), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, trombone), Ron Dziubla (saxophone), the Bovaland Orchestra (strings), and Doug Henthorn and Melanie Williams (background vocals).
"It's definitely my favorite Joe Bonamassa record to date," said Shirley. "It's an album that deserves to be listened to in its entirety. Luckily Joe's fan base really seems to appreciate a body of work and not just songs."
Each year, Bonamassa strives to deliver something new for his fans to thank them for their loyalty, dedication, and enthusiastic activity on Twitter, RUclips, Instagram and Facebook which has helped grow the guitarist's reputation exponentially in the U.S. and abroad.
Shirley said, "I think Joe has learned the value of not underestimating his audience. He plays music as well as he can, and always tries to bring music of depth to his audience. We try very hard to make the records as multidimensional as possible and really try not to cut any corners in delivering them."
Bonamassa has twelve #1 Billboard Blues Albums (more than any other artist) and received his first GRAMMY nomination in 2013 for his collaboration with Beth Hart on the duo's sophomore album Seesaw. His 2013 solo acoustic project An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House was nominated by the Blues Music Awards for Best DVD and his 2009 DVD Live From The Royal Albert Hall recently received RIAA Platinum Certification.

Im 52 years old.. Avid musician..
This man is absolutely the most talented guitarist ive seen.. Heard.. Watched.. Studied.. I knew he was a freak of nature when he was a youngster..
But watching his vocals develop ? Wow.!!
Im so glad he didn't sell out to the evil empire.. Ive seen haters comments.. Why? I guess jealousy.. Hes the real deal..
Go Joe!!!!!
Your exactly correct, these days people hate pure talent and Joe is absolutely a true artist no need to loop our distort his voice, simply the best guitarist of our times. He’s under rated because an independent artist and think god for that.
Easily one of the best guitarist on the planet. A mix of S.R.V. , BB King and Eric Clapton all in one. Vocals are very clean and on key. What's not to enjoy. A master blues guitarist and vocalist. Ya'll enjoy !!!!!
You know axactly how to appreciate good things and I like it.
My favorite living guitarist! The late great Gary Moore is my favorite!
and rory gallagher , and Gary Moore, and ..., and....all these fabulous hands .
Stevie Ray Vaughn, RIP. Is it just me? Or can anyone else imagine Vaughn and Bon ripping it up together.... Siiiigh...the dreams of a Blues Woman....Truly, JB is one of the best guitarists that has ever been on this planet.
He has mentioned that he has also been influenced by paul kossoff
One of the best guitarists in our days, with a modest lovely personality, need more people like him, very very good song
This song is Blues perfection. I can feel Joe's spirit as a musician in it. Thank you for the all beautiful music Joe!
The guy is a breath of fresh air for us ageing rockers.......long live Bonamassa.
Hear hear!
BOSS
Agreed!!
Unbelievable ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I've been listening to the Blues for 45 years. Joe Bonamassa has developed into the best I've ever heard. This album is gonna be fantastic!
Every time I give him my ears, he never disappoints me. His lyrics are spot on with the story of the song....
I absolutely love this man and his music!! Hell of a guitarist!!
Me too. He's so sincere. And he's such a sweetheart during an interview!!
Your right.... he is Absolutely Incredible! Such passion!
I know. I've seen his interview persona and it's completely different from the Joe we see on stage. The Joe in the perfectly fitted suit, hair slicked back, and those sunglasses; he's one sexy dude; he's doing what he does best and what he likes to do most. And he's lucky because it pays very well and he's certainly paid his dues. Some of us are destined to do the more menial jobs in society like being a RN. We're just glad that there are people like you, Joe, who make great music that we can listen to when we get home from work, etc. and you're worth every dime they pay you, probably more.
Pamela-- being a RN is not menial. Thank you , too! Kudos 2ya!
Thanks, I love my work. But I'd trade it in an instant if I could play the blues like Joe.
What an amazing song, what an amazing guitarist.
Man this hits home so hard. A year an a half ive been healing day by day.. she left outa the blue an tore me in half. Ive carried this hurt down deep trying to act like im fine. Sometimes a song like this gets me threw another day an a step closer to a peace ive been walking towords.. ty joe for sharing ur talent.. u help so many with what u do.
I'm so sorry!! It hurts so bad
I feel ya brother! It happened to me also.
The man can sing out the blues and lay down the law with that guitar!

Joe is not only a great guitarist but has a great voice too! Definately a man with the best of both worlds! I liked this song the first time I heard it! Everything he touches turns to gold! Thank you for the "fresh" sound. Reminds me of Roy Buchannan!
Hello 👋 Donna. How are you doing? Hope you are fine, I'm Zack Hudson and am from Denver Colorado. Where you are from? You seem like a real country girl
He's hypnotic
They say the best blues guitars are from blues singers
you think this guy cannot get any better then he does! He is amazing live!
Yesterday I watched the documentary "Joe Bonamassa: Guitar man" on Belgian television. My first encounter with this musician and his music, but man WOW I loved it. Mr Bonamassa, you've got another fan for life!!! Therefor it was a great disappointment today to find out that this evening JB was on concert in Ostend, just a 130 km from my home, and I couldn't attend that. Hopefully you'll return to Belgium in the near future and then I will definitely be there! Mr B, thanks for your superb music, love it!!!
Why does the blues always make me feel better?
+hellavadeal Because the Origin of Blues music is actually Slave music and it was sang to make the poor feel better by being honest through music, the trouble,they were going through;
the first Blues musicians didn't even know anything about music Theory, but they could sing their Butts Off.
Later when Blues was Introduced to the Electric Guitar, it went Viral, People like Clapton and Richards, became friends with people like BB king and now it's considered "The Roots of American Music "
+Bigdee One of the great things about music is you don't have to know anything about music theory to make it work. I know a ton of people who don't understand a whole note from a quarter note, but they can play the hell out of a guitar, piano, whatever. All they have to do is hear it. Or...hear it in their head, and then they've created their own tune. I have no idea when "music theory" even became a term, but I know mankind, and even nature, has been making music from day one. And, to me, someone who can play by ear is much more impressive than someone who understands how to read music and just follows what's on the paper. We do that to our youth, and that's when the music seems to lose that little something extra. They playing all the right notes. But they're not FEELING and EXPRESSING all the right notes in all the right ways. There wasn't much music education in the school systems in the rural south in the 40s, 50s and 60s. And, of course, before. People were just trying to get the next meal on the table. The great majority of the rural areas were impoverished. My parents, for example, were sharecroppers coming up. I find myself today drilling my mom about the proper way to kill and cure a hog, just in case things get ugly in my lifetime. I have plenty of relatives with cattle. Plenty hunt. I can hunt. I just got burned out on it before I finished high school. Ditto fishing. When that's all you have to do for ten years, you kinda get enough. I do need to ask her about processing milk after you've milked a cow or a goat. Even though the feds have made it illegal to drink milk now unless it goes through an USDA approved facility. Pfffft. I'm sick of the feds. And that's why things might get ugly one day.
Anyway, I done got off on a rant that has nothing to do with this awesome music we're all enjoying. Sorry about that. Sometimes it just spills over. And that's OK. That's what music is supposed to do. Make you "feel" something. It worked. eheh
Later. Visualize whirled peas.
+Bigdee I forgot to include this in my last post. I think you'll like it. :)

Because its a very emotional and spiritual type of music?
+hellavadeal Because there's someone else out there singin' the same tunes as you. And I'm not talking about songs
Joe--what a great treat and honor to have you in the world of the Blues! We need representatives like you! And others of course. Thanks for what you do!
Have seen many of the greats in concert from Hendrix to BB King, and Muddy Waters. It's been a long time since I have been as impressed as I am by Joe Bonamassa. Thank you Joe and please keep them coming!
I'm a huge fan of heavy metal but I'm in love with Joe's songs! Great singer and guitarist...
BEAUTIFUL SONG ! Joe Bonamassa Never Disappoints !!! 🎸🎤🤗
The emotions that Joe gives are something inhuman, one of the best artist ever, thank you Joe for all of your masterpiece! ♥️💪🏼
Браво, Браво, миллион аплодисментов. Музыка, голос , а музыканты профессионалы. Браво........
"Everybody knows that she broke your heart
Everybody knows that it's tearing you apart"
Damn, hits me like a train, everytime.
Come on, that tone and that solo is SO Gary Moore. It sounds so fucking good.
I also immediately thought of Gary Moore when I heard this. But Bonamassa misses the intensity of Gary's singing.
The whole song is great, but the solo at 3:00 is just amazing O.o
Seriously how do you possibly dislike this ? Thank you mister Bonamassa you brought the power and the soul together on this without any seams.
Power and the Soul ---- MAN !!!! That is it EXACTLY !
I've been listening to this song for years. This song is really. Blues. from Korea
I've heard of the guy and knew that he was a badass guitar player but I didn't hear his music until tonight and WOW, what a find! He's awesome and such a tasty blues player! I'd rank him right up there with the greats!
same things
He is One of the Greats , I believe he opened for BB King when he was 12 , the King thought he was special then, and most think he is special now.
me too
legasiguy 9p
I've recently gotten hooked up by Blues. It feels bad man, when you get that impression you've been living under a rock for so long that you missed on things so great.
Joe clearly is "The Shit". Capital T Capital S. No question.
ahhhhhhh!!!!!!! amazing solo!!!!!! it made me cry!!!!! man you came to save the blues! since SRV the world don't have a guitar player like you, thanks for existing!
Spot on.
'Bout right!
True, and he is playing with SRV's keyboard player. Reese Wynans. 2:54.
***** So 2ds and 6ths scare you huh? He could be messing around with modes all the afternoon and still be improvising with succes over a blues track. Also, Bonamassa considers himself a Blues-Rock guitar player but those of us who have heard him jamming blues can deffend his title of "blues guitar player" with more arguments than you. And the "whiteboy contemporary blues" is an odd thing to say, as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Jeff Healey, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Gary Moore, Jimmi Page, Billy Gibbons, Rory Gallagher and Duane Allman were "contemporary blues whiteboys" in their times and I belive they deserve a little bit more than the childish category you made.
gary Moore "Cough" "Cough"
Some deep, intense, intelligent riffs goin on here. Loved it.
While watching WTTW on Sunday morning and reading the paper, I suddenly heard this music and had to do a double take. For a minute there, I thought I had died and gone to heaven and was surrounded by Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and BB King. I would have been willing to bet all of my wages that no one with a guitar could have affected me this way. I could not stop dancing. Joe's music went to my soul, like no other has since days of My Favorite Blues Singers, most of who have gone on to Blues Heaven, except for Mr. BB King, King of Blues. So glad Bonamassa met BB.
"When you got nothing left to lose, might sound good but I'm not sure it's true. You carry the pain around and that's what sees you through..." long live the legend
To me personally, it let's you know that you're not the only one hurting. Gives us something to relate to.
Я наслаждаюсь вашей музыкой , спасибо вам за это ...
My absolute favorite singer/guitarist, or guitarist/singer.
My husband listened blues radio here in Finland. There were something so familiar, something agent, something today, and the singers voice is known but much more mature. Said to to him " its fresh, old and sounds like Joe Bonamassa and i was so happy, when he said, yep it was Bonamassa!
Memories of the late great Jeff Healey for me.
I just love his music. Boy can sing too :)
The best I've heard him do in years hes been a rut this is a breakout.he sounds so much like garey Moore here
Love when you sing the blues Joe. I am forever your blues fan. Thank you Joe.
Super-song and no more words needed , i just want to hear it again !!! much love to all !!!
How can one be such a great guitarist and vocalist at the same time?
It makes us feel better because its real . Truth be told we all have had bad days or our heart broken. The blues just tell the truth about how we are feeling
This man is an absolutely amazing artist and I look forward to hearing more albums to come!
The world is blessed, extremely fortunate that J.Bonamassa "JB " music is with us. The cleanest of clean blues guitar music and more. Joes musical talent drives emotions !!!!
I'm 71 and the best guitar player since Eric Clapton. Love all his stuff
Heard this on Radio 2 one day last week and now hearing it everyday so far on there. Why didn't I know about Mr Bonamassa sooner? I've liked Eric Clapton and Gary Moore all these years, actually thought it was Eric Clapton, sorry Joe, or is that a compliment?! Love It!
His tribute to Gary Moore was moving to me! "Still got the blues" lead break set my attention towards Bonamassa style guitar playing. Very vocal phrasing and staccato style leads.🎨
For my friend Doug. His pain is gone.
One hell of a man. Rest well Cuz
Oh wow, such a talented guitarist! Absolutely love it!
AWESOME! Garry Moore, Eric Clapton, Chris Rea and Russ Ballard in one Person. The best Blues man in this time!
HELL YES
BACK TO THE BLUES JOE!!!
This is Mary Thom,,,, I met Joe, when he was just getting Big,2012... I said to him, your gonna be real famous one of these days, 3 years Later look where he;s at!!! your fantastic Joe,!!!
+Jimmy Elaian : Joe's been ripping it and hearing the same accolades since he was 11 years old in Junior High School, which is when he first jammed on stage with BB King. He's been a blues guitar phenom since the mid-80's.
Joe knows my heart and soul, and pours it out with every song
that lead tone though
I know right, damn!
It's the million dollar tone, have you seen his gear?! He easily plays with a million dollar set up his 1959 is 250,000 alone... Plus his vintage amps pedals and countless other guitars I mean just look what he plays in this one song alone!
Anthony Coughlin
he would get that tone out of 2k equipment... it's the fingers, not the gear
that is 100% true but im juust saying his gear is incredible.
He's really good Joe Bonnamassa isn't he.
people should feel .....feel...pain isn't good but it is real and if it hurts...CRY,,,hug one another tonight...for the homeless and hungry and lonely
This lyrics couldn’t be ant closer of my life. Smokin’ Joe is a legend.
I found a little bit of Still got the Blues+Hotel California+Creedence in this awesome song! greetings Bonamassa: I really enjoy your music.
Yep, spot on ! :) a bit
"Don't Dream It's Over" as well on the keys' line ;-)
Nice inspirational mix anyway !
Yes! I know exactly what you mean!
I get a Jeff Healy vibe
The Man and his music !
Keepin' the blues alive.
I think this blues music, especially this song "different shades of blue " is like salve for the soul.
The precision he plays and sings eith is amazing, considering how complex his songs and performances are... I just wish I could afford to see him live....an old rocker can die happy..
Something new from Joe . . .
Looking forward to getting the album . . .
joe just keeps on giving and giving sure fixes me up when i get the blues
maybe everyone could live for him tonight...just once..is that asking TOO MUCH?
I do not stop listening...Joe Bonamassa....In the office, at home, in the mountains, at the sea
You've taken your Music to new levels, time and time again ,the ride as a fan is better than good, Cheers.
Great song and very tasty guitar playin, Nothing like the tone of a les paul!
Perfect blend of electric and tinge of acoustic...not to mention backing vocals...ah an those keys... splendid Joe
This is on point. Sometimes it helps to see the world through another's eyes. I know well about having nothing. All my life I've tried to help others when they needed someone. Now I'm 49 years in, and back to where it all began, with nothing except some good memories and great music burned forever into my mind. Y'all keep putting out the tunes and maybe it will keep me alive for another day and maybe I can make someone else's life better once again. I live for this.
Я с тобой .
this is music for my soul
Love it and can't wait for the album
Different shades of blue is still an awesome album from Joe. Great singing and wonderful guitar-solos on it! 3 years old but still fresh as from yesterday. You listen Joe, you can't get tired to do it. Many thanks Joe for all this great music you share with us!
I still think this is one of the best songs he has ever performed.
Super voce,chitara,muzica,,Cat talent!
Truly a gem of a song. My thoughts with words have been taken straight out of my mouth. Just love it!.
That's the blues 2.0! And I love it! Thank you Joe.
Heard this once and knew that yet once again, Joe is at his best, doing what he loves most. We just happen to be the lucky ones his star is shining on. Keep on shining Joe.
this is a awesome song,,i love it,,,, joe is the man.... awesome
Kevin Shirley. Keepin' the blues alive.
I wish I could know him personally, every interview I've seen him in he sounds so personable. Like he's just one of my buds growing up. Oh,and there's that hole guitar thing. We've lost to many, stay safe JoeB and thank you.
joe the very best!
One of the best blues songs ever written.
Love the new song! Definitely something a little bit different from what Joe has been producing of late. Nice example of his continued gradual maturity and growth as a phenomenal musician!!
Wow...
I just can't belive that some people don't admire this kind of musician...
Beautiful, just beautiful!!
Слушаю Джо и понимаю:
Он уже в истории музыки нашей планеты.
Независимо от страны и вероисповедания-есть вещи незыблемые!
БравО!👏👏👏
Never heard of him, (why??) until a live concert on PBS recently. So, He's coming to San Antonio, and I've got my tickets! Can't wait!
Great lead guitar tone !
Has that vintage Santana feel to it.
Awesome playing, Joe !
You've become one of my favorites.
Wonderful first JB track I ever heard changed my life followed him since seen him live twice brilliant.
Joegasms every time I hear his music!!!
One of the most brilliant guitarists, with Reese Wynans on keys (formerly with SRV) and inspired new composed material : who could ask for more ? Recogntion for JB at last ! What a team \m/
Can't wait to see this man in January 2015 in Albany, NY.
Have this Album too ,with just about every Album you have made , My Husband & I love every song you sing & we love Keven Shirley!!!!
The sun's been shinin' down on the day and night
Gettin' away with murder, livin' a lucky life
All good things finally come to an end
Hit ya like a train if you try to pretend
Everybody knows that she broke your heart
Everybody knows that it's been tearing you apart
The boat you've been sailin' on has sprung a leak
You won't admit, but it's down to make you weep
When you got nothing left to lose
Might sound good, but I'm not sure that's true
You carry the pain around and that's what sees you through
The different shades of blue
Tell by the way you hang your head
The way you cast your eyes and the things you haven't said
You've got the past ten years written on your face
Your whole damn life's been one big race
Everybody goes there whether they want to or not
Everybody starts to hold on to what they got
And start to settle in with the long haul?
Real life baby, oh you can't have it all
When you got nothing left to lose
Might sound good, but I'm not sure that's true
You carry the pain around and that's what sees you through
The different shades of blue
When you got nothing left to lose
Might sound good, but I'm not sure that's true
You carry the pain around and that's what sees you through
The different shades of blue
Now here's a CD to own!
Joe just continually knocks it out of the park.
The best, I saw him in Belgium in july 2023 OMG what a great prefomer.
Loving this! Fantastic song Joe!
Holy Crap! Thank you for the special sneak peak from the upcoming album!! Great song (never expect less) and a great teaser for what the whole album will be!! GO Joe and company!!
