Embracing uncertainty is not only the key to overcoming anxiety but also a key to love a fulfilling life

  • @МихайловскНедвижимость

    1. Refuse to be comfortable or certain
    2. Move toward threat
    3. Invest into it
    4. Risk losing something that want to keep (i.e. beliefs, security, being right)
    5. Accept & be willing to be influenced by the moment, environment, discomfort/pain
    6. Be satisfied even if world doesn't bend

Very nice message and very helpful! Timely for me, as well because my OCD has been much worse lately. I know I must resist the compulsion to perform the ritual and be willing to accept the discomfort. A mental game, huh? Could it actually be satisfying and even fun to resist the rituals? Maybe even empowering? I have hope!

Kathryn, Take some action to be happy in life. Meditation heals anxiety as it reprogrames the mind. Watch alternate nostril breathing meditation videos on Google and do it for 5 to 10 minutes if possible twice a day. You can sit on a chair or on the ground and do it. Inhale-exhale slowly and feel the relaxation flowing through your mind and body. Negative thoughts will reduce. Shyaaam Sir, Mentor. Make meditation a daily habit to enjoy life.

Anxiety is a sensation that wants resistance, the less you resist (Elkhart we judge to much) and accept that you don’t need certainty because it doesn’t exist! It’s a mental construct designed to reinforce (the monster cannot be satiated) your own mental slavery.

    1. change the way you relate to your symptoms
    2. play the mental game- do it afraid until you arent afraid anymore.
    3. I want to be uncertain, I want to be uncomfortable so that I prove to my body that I'm ok.
    4. be with the present. dont argue with the present. ride it out. be there with it and hang out with it. don't do anything. and it will go away.
    5. i want uncertainty.

Your strategy worked for me. I actually challenged my anxiety to kill me and give me the promised heart attack or stroke and in a very short time it simply went away. Thanks.

Only theory will not help-practicals are needed as it is a chemical imbalance in the brain.Benzodiazepines are habit forming --SSRI of low power are better. . There are some activities that are pleasurable and others that allow for intrusive thoughts. Realistically only probably a quarter of a percentage of people do not spend a lot of time entertaining themselves in one way or the other. But most people also do not spend all their time entertaining or distracting themselves. I think the idea of being responsible is scary, and that talking or watching these types of video can cause anxiety. However realistically entertaining though the high contracts and guilt might drive someone towards doing things that are more comfortable more of the time. A way to break this up is to set a timer for ten minutes during the time you are entertaining yourself and do 1 minute of things that are intrusive. A pain in the butt? No maybe not...as the neural chemicals levels in the brain do tend to level out. And spending one minute a in ten doing something negative is not all that bad...the brain can get used to interruptions.

The idea is to level out the highs and the lows so that one can have better mental health and clarity.

I know you didn't ask ME my opinion, but may I share how I work some tools to help myself? I have had anxiety disorder since I was seven years old. I am 58. FOR ME, and I'm NOT suggesting this works for everyone. But, for me, when I have to go somewhere outside the house, I do it like we eat an elephant, one bite at a time. Also, the more I stay in my home, the harder it is to get out. I am on five medications for anxiety and depression and I have PTSD. This year, for the first time in 30 YEARS, I voted for the presidency. I made a plan of escape if it were too anxiety inducing; I decided to drive to the school, remember where I parked for a quick get away, walked in the door, watched how to vote, so to speak, watched others for a while. then I had a plan, walk up to the first table, they had it like a car assembly line, so I didn't have to talk much, I did the job, and got out of there, into the safety of my car, I was shaking while unlocking it. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD that I was able to do it!! I heard Joyce Meyer (christian preacher and hard ass) say, "do it afraid", and that was also my mantra. I also took a Xanax before I went. I told myself, "if at any time this becomes tooooooo uncomfortable, I give myself permission to LEAVE". So, I did a lot of prep work, used the tool of "one bite at a time" (we Italians associate everything with food! lol) and it really helped.
I use what I call tools ALL THE TIME to help myself.
