- After my first video of troubleshooting the issues with our bus, I finally discover that our ring and pinion gear is blown.
Fortunately, we were stranded at a rest stop. I full week of off grid living at a rest stop in Marion,NC.

Impressive. All done at a rest stop. Your a monster 😂. Could see how relieved u were once back on the road.
Thanks for watching! Was definitely a challenge for my first time. I was beyond excited for the results and just overall felt a great sense of accomplishment🤘🏼
Once again, Thank you for sharing. The man upstairs was with you.
He sure was😬🙂
Inspiring to all people who want to learn how to work on these old eagles
Thank you…. They are very intimidating 😄
Great job and you saved some money and learned a lot. Well done.
And got REALLY dirty😂. Thank you🙂
Good thing about breaking down in Marion.. u really werent far from Goodson Bus in Maiden, NC.. also a stellar Detroit and all around Bus guy in Mill Springs,NC.. Gene Russell at Russells Diesel Service..
Definitely! I’ve been told I couldn’t have broken down in a better place 😄
You were so lucky to be able to do that yourself. I have a 2000 Monaco dynasty that only has a shade over 83,000 miles on it and I am still always fixing something as I just had to have my shepherd I am 100 steering box sealed. The shop really did give me a break on the price and I Supplied the seal kit and a little over a day in their shop as they let me spend the night cost me $1180. So it really does pay to be handy. That job I couldn’t do because I did not have the tools in the shop even broke one of their pullers.
I definitely sat and stared for a few hours before making the decision to do the work. Another price I did not include in the video was the potential tow bill that started at $250 an hour😬
I’m grateful I haven’t met my match yet!😆
When you take the Bull by the horns, the feeling when everything happens as planned it’s a blessing. Thank you for sharing, maybe it will help someone to do the same… I enjoy your readiness to do what needs to be done…
Thank you for the kind words! Although some might look at this experience as a setback, o actually see it as a educational crash coarse in bus mechanics 😅
I watch all of your videos. Damn Dude you had water welling up in my eyes too🤣🤣. You are very thorough and that's gonna pay off big for you.👍👍.
Tears of joy my friend😄
Sometimes it just comes over us🤙🏼
@@RollinHomies tears of joy for sure
I always wanted to see how those busses' drive trains were set up. Pretty interesting!
The spiders gears are pretty amazing engineering. … and yet so tiny😆
I find that using bearing grease on the bearings helps with the break in
Awesome endeavor! Completing it in a rest area is mind boggling. I also watch the Bus Grease Monkey channel. So much of what he does is correcting poor workmanship and bone headed repairs done by theoretically competent bus and RV shops. It seems the only way to know it's done right is to do it yourself.
Scott’s channel has helped me tremendously in the past few years. And I agree on the shotty workmanship. As long as I’m able I will try to always to the work. I’m hanks for watching!🤘🏼
Awesome vid. Question, do you apply sealant in between all the shims? Also, does the drop box utilize the oil from the differential? Or does the drop box have its own oil?
I asked about the sealant and was told to only apply to the outer contact surfaces. As I took the old shims off, there were no signs of any kind of gaskets… also none available as “parts”. As for the hub oil, yes, the one fill hole is the only way to fill the entire axle and the Dropbox. Works very similar to a transmission as the gears “splash” the inside of the case and all of the bearings have ports behind them to allow even lubrication.
It took about 3.5 gallons of hub oil to fill. And, I’d recommend using a quality transfer pump to fill. The oil is very thick and took me 1.5 hours to fill using a cheap harbor freight hand pump… as I don’t recommend 🥵
Thank you🙂
What about all the oil on the ground!
I didn’t feel good about it. I thought that same thing as walked by two trailer tires laying in the ditch next to where we were parked. The whole situation was very unexpected and I wiped up what I could.
Why not put a drop cloth down prior to working on something like that.
Many things I’d do differently if I were to do it again😅. Thanks for watching
Did brake clean splash back and eat your mustache off? In a previous video.
Lol… I’ve never been much of a mustache kinda guy. Besides, I tend to be a bit of a trend setter😉😄
