But let's not pretend that the Republican party of today is the one that was started in 1867. Storm Thurmond and all those other Southern Democrats (the Dixiecrats as they were called) flipped straight to the Republican party when the fight to end Jim Crow laws was going on. They to this day are the fundamental base of the Republican party, the group that Trump panders to with his rhetoric. Both political parties have a nasty history when it comes to minorities. We shouldn't be pushing one over the other, period.

Sthef Garcia As long as that said person can trace an ancestor back to American Slavery, and one half to have claimed “Black” for at least 10 years. As for the non-Black American spouse, the answer would be no, but the children would be in the lineage.

Hear, here. A righteous case should be made that it's time to do the hard work of making America a place which doesn't mock the sacrifice our forebears made to make this a more perfect union. White Supremacy has produced a bottom caste which took many generations to come to a head. Blacks are right to advocate for policy and monetary REPARATIONS as redress for the country grossly undermining Black Americans' ability at WEALTH CREATION: by imposing various "Slave Codes" and "Black Codes," which dictated what slaves, southern and northern freemen ("slaves without masters"), and post-Reconstruction Blacks could do, where they could go, etc.; by denying us our "40 Acres & a Mule"/some formerly enslaved South Carolinians who settled on Edisto Island, S.C., for instance, received these reparations, but were taken away and given to Confederate traitors; by enacting various Homestead Acts which allowed numerous White folks to receive 1.6M land-grants to settle -- with an option to own, a total of 160M acres of public domain & gov't-owned lands, and property confiscated from Native Americans; by allowing, for eight decades after Reconstruction, business interests, gov't and crafty White folks to obtain via crook-and-hook almost 1M Black-owned farms belonging to the formerly enslaved and their descendents, many of whom had little education or were illiterate who nonetheless worked hard for the money to buy property to provide for their families; by enacting a system of "sharecropping" in which Blacks were allowed to grow crops on White-owned farms and plantations for a portion of the profits -- many were taken advantage of and cheated out of their rightful portions by various schemes; by imposing "redlining" and other forms of segregation; by denying equal access to the WW2-era GI Bill which severely undermined Black veterans' ability to get college educations (most White institutions admitted just a token few, if any, and HBCUs couldn't accommodate but so many, etc.), vocational training, unemployment compensation, and home mortgages (for example, in New York and northern suburban New Jersey, Black vets received 100 of 67,000 mortgage loans) etc.; denied equal access to the Fair Labor Standards Act, which provided minimum wages, overtime pay and restricted child labor, except in service, domestic and agricultural occupations -- these exceptions were mandated by congressional southerners who knew Black Americans overwhelmingly worked in those fields; by denying equal access to justice, voting rights, decent schooling, housing, healthcare, and capital markets. The stark sum of these harms are the perfect storm explaining the dilemma we American descendents of slaves (ADOS) presently face. We're at a crossroad. BLACK LIVES MATTER either has meaning, or doesn't. And it's up to White people allies to educate others about this and forcefully advocate a 21st CENTURY FLOYD PLAN" to address it. (*The name honors the memory of George Floyd, the recently murdered Black American man at the hand of Minneapolis, MN police, and who is now the catalyst for the 2020 Anti-White Supremacy Uprisings in the United States/modeled on the 1948 "Marshall Plan," an American initiative which helped rebuild Western Europe after WW2.) This should be taught as early as elementary, high school and then on into the collegiate academics because every African-American needs to clearly understand this by the time they graduate college or reach the age of 21. There’s a vid on Soft White Underbelly of a man who was wrongly imprisioned for 20+ years. Because of that his daughter had to go to foster care and ended up being molested, blaming her father’s incarceration and now his doesn’t even see his grandchild. The state and judge agreed to expunge his record and it never happened. They ended up paying him a few thousand dollars a couple of times over 40 years but that’s it. He couldn’t get a government job or anything. And it’s stories like his that make me feel like reparations is due.
Push this message!!!! Wise up , stand on a stone in front of your people and make great demands. We will back you! We need to know our worth and obtain wealth. We come from many different tribes and we are all in one melting pot of mistreatment. Your parents could work 35 years to retirement and die and nothing really is passed down ( in many cases)

Great interview. Bob spoke a lot of truths. That last comment of "Once you get reparations, you can get your own house" was funny. He's saying, "Get like me, and get some money, because I'm fine." Yes, he doesn't have to worry about a lot of of the injustices and abuses that have come towards black folks, because of his access to wealth and the white society. The common denominator in a lot of these cases of extreme white supremacy (i.e murders committed by police officers, white civilians, and even black civilians) is the POCs who are living in communities where resources are limited, where income is low and extremely controlled by the government, where access to adequate housing, education, healthcare, employment is low. Money talks. Money changes lives. Money sustains lives. No, it won't end racism, but it'll greatly curtail a lot of these instances that puts us in fatal, compromising positions. He's also right that America will become a predominantly POC nation in the close enough future. If we don't want to remain a population that remains on the bottom, we're going to have to get on one accord, agree on the overall personal interests of the black American community, and gain some wealth and power. Other racial/ethnic groups will do that (they already do that). Hispanics/Latinos are the majority in the racial minority groups of America - that will continue to happen. They know how to stick together, preserve and own their culture, and sustain some level of ownership of the neighborhoods. We better do that to0; or we'll remain in the same spot where we've been since our ancestors got here back in the 16th century. Change and want more now, black people. Demand more from everybody - even the so-called allies.
When I first heard about reparations, I thought it was something that was never going to happen! Then I heard about YANG 2024, and thought this could work! Now hearing this idea has just taken everything to a new level of understanding. We will never fix racism. I could do so much more with $11,000 a year. And you won’t find me at a liquor store spending it all either! I understand what having access to money means for my future as well as my families future. The weight it would lift off my constant concern about money would change the world. You say why the world? Cause my state of well being on a daily basis would not be in despair. Just imagine if that weight lift was then given to each African American slave descendant. It would change the world. African Americans contribute! When given access to cash we will & have shown it. Reparations are indeed needed. Quick example. My wife bought this (Womens monopoly)game. Now I love (the normal Monopoly game) and have dominated this game since I was a 10 year old. This womens monopoly however gives the ladies and advantage. Everytime a women passes go they get 500 vs the man who gets only 200. Moral of the story i ended up hating the game and no matter how hard I tried I catch up i never could. Same in real life. This is real life monopoly and the white people have the advantage....

Moral of the story, there are a lot of successful people from all sorts of colours and many unsuccessful people from all sorts of colours... some white people have the advantage but not all white people are rich like you may wanna think.
