- This video covers our segment from Dodge City to Colorado Springs. I'll have some more videos showing our adventures in the area including Garden of the Gods, and Pikes Peak.
As ever, for a Brit (who's never been anywhere) these slices of Americana are fascinating.
Your great videos are a trip down memory lane for me. Lived in Colo. Springs from late 50s through the 60s; a nice smaller city back then. August 62 we drove to Dodge in my dads new Galaxie 500. Down to Pueblo on US 85/87 then turned left, pretty much your route. In 2021, the particles from the West Coast forest fires eventually arrived over here in England altering our sunsets for awhile.
Always trying to catch up with you two, can’t wait for the epic road trip to Alaska
65 mph is a good safe speed. Enjoying your videos.
I think I would have lost my mind trying to park in that spot your camper is in. I love the mountains. If you and Abby get the chance you should check out Glacier National Park. We left Minnesota and drove through South Dakota got to see the Badlands. Drove up to Mt Rushmore and onto the grand finale GLACIER. I plan to go back there in the future. It’s a beautiful place with tremendous views. Well worth the drive. Thanks for showing the sights and for letting us tag along for the ride Adam and Abby.
That was all in our first plans but had to cancel the upper side.
Welcome to Colorado!
Adam - this trip is so much fun for me to watch. I'm getting used to seeing you away from machines and tools! You make a good team. Enjoy the rest of your journey.
Now don’t you be getting yourself all upset Adam 👍.Thanks guys for the great video 👏👏👍🇬🇧🍺🍺🥰
Thought I had "Smelloputer" when you drove by that huge cattle feedlot. Once you have had a whiff of one of them, you've got it for life. I also experience the same scents when I watch "This Farm Wife" as they are out feeding their livestock. Still, I would sooner be around cattle than I would "Hogs." You get too close to one of those feedlots, you'll wear the smell forever.
So glad to see your setup FOR the generator on the travel trailer. We just retired and or on the fence on which type to get; class A, TT OR 5 Wheel. We have animals and wouldn’t dare leave them without A/C.
Your drive by Ft Carson brought back memories.
Who woulda thought you had a life outside of the shop! Great videos thanks for taking us along.
You'd be surprised how many want me to never leave the shop
@@AbomAdventures with your knowledge you've obtained in machining i definitely believe it!
You should have a decent time in Colorado Springs, the smoke had decreased significantly here. Garden of the Gods is always a great spot. The southern part of the state is really beautiful and you will have a good time.
i went to college in Glenwood springs in 1981 i am loving your trip hope you like it too
Safe travels to you two.
Nice adventure i have enjoy it have a good evening
Pagosa springs CO. I go there every time I'm in southern Colorado, the hot springs there are amazing and some of the best anywhere the ones right on the river
I watch your machining video's all the time, from here in Canon City. I Hope you and Abby enjoy your stay in the area, and have a safe and relaxing adventure !
- Rich
I really have been enjoying your trip man..... these daily uploads have been amazing brother.... holding it down back here in pensacola, too cool seeing you guys visit the place where I was born.... SO much nostalgia Abom Adventures is providing ❤❤❤
Thank you!
I’m a native to Colorado. Welcome and sorry you didn’t get to mountains. Please try again sometime spring time in the mountains is awesome.
Welcome to you both
The trip isn’t over man, don’t know why you think that.
we live east of lake Tahoe and have been living with the smoke for 2 weeks now. smoke from CA and our own state, yesterday we could see the eastern sierra clearly today barely ..take care drive safe.
I glued some conveyor belting to the bottom of my Andersen's. Keeps them form sliding on the slick concrete and gives them traction in the loose gravel.
years ago i saw an answer to difficult trailer maneuvering..a hitch ball on the front of the truck ..made it very easy
I think my favorite video of yours is a very early one where you machined a cylinder trunnion at Motion, and you played Mumford and Sons all through it. I bet I've watched that video 2 dozen times.😊 Hmmm. I think I'll watch it again right now!
One of mine too, and one of my very first videos! 👍🏻
I was on the North side of Colorado Springs today for work. It rained the whole way back up to Denver. We definitely need it and more
It’s been cloudy and rainy all afternoon in our area near Canon City.
Are you going over Monarch pass to Gunnison or down through Pagosa Springs
The flying "w" ranch was kinda fun. It's a chuckwagon style feed with entertainment, and the life style of some of the Indian culture. It right by you guys!
aka dude ranch with fake cowboys and indians, ugh
Continuing on watching your journey forgot to say something last time when you was in Wichita that you should’ve stopped in Hutchinson Kansas which is only 60 miles north west and went to the underground salt mine tour that is very neat to be under ground that far, this video it is nice of this area have not been there yet hopefully will continue on with more videos of your vacation.
I always wondered why I connected with you Adam, now I know. Rock and Classical in the same brain, same as me.
Ugh! When my wife & I were on the road for 16 months in our RV, we HATED the square access campsites. SO frustrating to get backed in and line up with the hookups.
Had similar sunsets/sunrises here in Australia during bushfires last summer
Even with the parking problems, it sounds like you guys are having a blast.
That rv park has all the class and charm of a walmart parking lot!
But none of the meth heads. You win some, you loose some.
Used to drive me nuts too, but what I did I got it set of walkie talkies put my wife in the driver's seat and set back and told her which way to turn the wheel right in no problem. It kept my blood pressure down.😁😁
Jeffrey Brookes the wife and I both have cell phones, with unlimited talk. They work better than a walkie talkie.
I am late again. Kind of a tight spot your parked in. I bet there are plenty of fender benders. Not sure I would be comfortable packed in like that. Then again I am a invited guest looking over your shoulder. Thanks for bringing us along.
That’s a long drive thru western Kansas. You can only enjoy wheat fields for long. Flatter than a nun’s tit, you can see forever but there’s nothing much to see. Eastern Kansas is beautiful with trees, hills and valleys, lakes and waterways, everything green and growing and wildlife abounds. I’ve seen birds flying around western Kansas just fall from the sky from exuastion looking for a place to land. lol. Hope you enjoyed our state, the land of Oz, and can visit again soon. Keep having fun!
Welcome to Colorado Springs, we are happy to have you both. Crazy seeing the town through visiting eyes .
I hope you bought some Rocky Ford cantaloupes when you went through Ricky Ford. They are the absolute best cantaloupes in the world!!
Definitely more traffic than in Wichita. That RV park is looking like a parking lot. Paved all over.... It's like barbecuing at a Walmart's. Not used to that at all here in Europe.
for a pretty drive is Hw 50 from Canon City over past Salida. 14,000 feet pass careful of altitude air is thin
ABBY, You have to check out this band since you like ALL music because this band is special and the lead singer has the most range I have ever heard. Just search for Jinjer Pisces live session at Napalm Records and watch at least a minute of the video before deciding if you like them or not. You will LOVE it.
I'll show Abby your comment.
@@AbomAdventures video her reaction to the song as well. She will thank you later. lol
DUDE! When you said TOOL was your favorite band and named off the same stations I listen to on SXM, I felt like a kid finding a new best friend LMAO!
Hi guys, get yourselfs a good pair of two ways! Used them for years trucking Double axle Truck & Trailer for the big Brown Truck company. Here in Germany, I have had spots With lese than
Ten Inches total Width, eighteen &a half Meters Long , 90° Bend on the tounge pushing Up to the loading ramp.. Two ways make it a piece of cake !!!!!!! Stay Safe Out there.
Welcome to Colo. I live in Pueblo you probably came through there
Here in Bellingham, WA where I live and work, we were having smoke haze from the fire's in Siberia, Russia. Tool is a great band. Matt C.
That must be a big fire if it's reaching you
I wanted to move to Bellingham over CO Springs...but I'm holding off for now...is it awesome there or what? I've heard amazing things...
@@Marooncords It is amazing place to live with so many National and State parks to see. Matt C.
Hit Red Rocks if you get a chance. Pretty cool area.
Welcome to Colorado Springs
You even got sirens... lol
Hooray!!!!!
You may have passed it but you should check out Crazy Horse Mountain. Great story and endeavor! Better than Rushmore imo! Oh and the night time laser show on the side of the mountain. Pretty cool!
Hey there Adam. If Tool is your favorite band, you're into stringed instruments like violin, and she likes classical, check out Vitamin String Quartet. They've done THREE album tributes to Tool called "Lateralus", "Anotomica" and "Third Eye Open".
Fun fact - Coolidge, KS...home of Cousin Eddie and Family from National Lampoon's Vacation...a sub-title pops up when they get there...😆
Thought Eddie lived in the desert in Nevada or Arizona
I'm the same way, if I'm pulling the camper 65ish is my max. No need to push the truck or the trailer tires any harder. If you need to get there fast you are completely missing the whole point of having a camper and camping. Its all about taking it easy!
99% of people on the road you cannot convince that to.
@@AbomAdventures thats a fact. I drive about 4000 miles a month for my job. Everyone is in a hurry and could care less about you.
Take a chill pill and enjoy.
Hang in there ya'll.
Hey are you kids going to see the Dragonman and his Harley engineering shop? Crazy man.
Tool is awesome.
Nice haircut adam.
Enjoy the trip you two.
50 amp camp service....? You plan on welding on this stay!?
Your here in Manitou Springs, that’s where I live. I’d stop by but don’t know the date.
octane is my fav
So...you have some eclectic music taste...so good to hear. Now to get you into some Prog. Son's of Apollo, you will not be disappointed. The current "joke" from the Dream Theater fans out there (that are still mad that Mike Portnoy left) is that Son's of Apollo is the new Dream Theater...especially since half of Son's of Apollo used to be in DT. LOL I also listen to pretty much everything, I don't listen to much rap, especially some of that Gangsta stuff that pretty much is just a bunch of vile spew.
I was hoping you would stop at the rest there on the state line.
If someone wanted to create a business during the covid they could convert a camping trailer into a hair salon-barber and they could come to the customer. Would be a big help to the elderly. No need to rent a building. Kind of like the Snap-on truck.
Tool is best ever! Apple Music finally added them to their selection btw!
A+++++ for pronouncing my last name correctly (again!) with the proper German pronunciation. I am so not used to hearing it that its nice when I hear it. :-)
Also, what watch is Abby wearing?? It looks like it has the Tag Heur logo on the face but I have never seen a Tag design like that.
🇳🇱NLin the netherlands there is a saying when the sun rises red that means water in the ditch or a lot of rain greetings hans
You know when you cross the Kansas/Colorado border by the road, the road generally gets terrible once you get into Colorado.
Rudy's Bar-B-Q right down the road
Is that "Rudy's" part of the chain that got started in the Austin, TX area years ago? If so, fantastic BBQ, (coming from a native Texan)
@@shortfuse43 Yes it is , I would like to see what Adam thinks he should try it,
@@St0neRacer My favorite is the "Extra Moist"....cut the brisket with a fork...yummm! I've eaten at all kinds of BBQ joints, Mom & Pop to big greasy spoon BBQ's, but for a chain, they have kept the quality of theirs top notch...best by far and it's consistent at each Rudy's.
Otis taylor is an oustanding artist, if you like blues/banjo
I know the USA is different from the rest of the world, but the sun sets in the East??? ( :30 seconds in) In Oz, the sun sets in the West.. :)
OK, sorry but it made me smile..
Great travel Vlog
If you like bluegrass or country style you have to check out Tyler Childers! He is great you'll love it!
Coolidge? Isn't that where cousin Eddie lived in the vacation movie?
Safe Travels
If you like Red rocks you need to go to Utah! Do you know about The Garden Of TheGods in Illinois?
When you get to New Mexico the sun sets in the West.
Joe Steele I bet the sun rises in the East, too. Lol
Did you go by the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson
Good morning Abby and Adam stay safe and enjoy question did you get the warranty on your Kodiak?
Sorry about the smoke
Try the Dead South
One Thing to Add Tho, where the hell is Your new Boxer pup, missing Stella NGL
What is the windshield mounted rear camera you are using? Looking for something like that to use with my gooseneck.
You need to find a DeLorme map book of Colorado, or any of the other western states you plan to visit. They show what is BLM land and forest service land, and the roads into them, find a good road, follow it out and set up camp. Search "boondocking" on google, there are several websites with lists of free camp sites. I have stayed in one rv campground, ugh, never again, boondocking in the boonies is the way to go.
So, hows about a little F J Haydn?
:)
Need to buy a tail end video camera/terminal so you can see the back end.
I did, the day we purchased the camper.
Adam, Adam, Adam, we have a saying here in Australia it says, SHE is the cats mother, but your wife's name is Abby. Please don't hate me for saying this it just sounds much nicer using Abby's name.
i am very curious what you are getting for mpg towing youre trailer
On this trip when pulling I’m averaging 11.5 mpg
😧
You can't see the forest for the trees, like the mountain you are on.
Adam why did you chose a trailer instead of a 5th wheel
Nothing wrong with a "bumper pull". I enjoy having my truck bad available for hauling while I pull the camper. Bumper pull is what I want.
Yeah it’s the fires, we’ve been in the haze for a couple weeks now (northeast Kansas). The only thing worse than western Kansas is eastern Colorado. 😂 But at least you’re not taking I-70. 🤮
Yep we chose to take the southern approach into Colorado
Yeeeeaaaaahjjjj
US Air Force academy in Colorado Springs
As we say in the motorcycle community "It's all part of the adventure!".
If someone aint already mentioned it check out Inciweb. Up to date info on natural events (mostly wildfires) and their status. Very handy tool when traveling.

Tool!!
Red sun at dawn sailor be warned, it’s gonna be a bad weather day.
As the Blue Brothers Country Bunker lady said : We like All kinds of music, Country and Western ! But I have 7000 CD's on my player and listen to high opera in 5 languages and rock from the start until acid rock killed rock. Texas Swing, Western, some Country, some Modern and some Blues.... Really all kinds. Not Anti-anyone music! [Raps]
So cool, Dodge RAM, bike in the back and a camper, that's what i have, good times, look at my youtube page, live life to the MAX....this is what we are doing too.
Buy cheap pair of walkie-talkies for backing up communication.
Jeffrey Kropp nothing wrong with phones if both peeps have one. Don’t have to push buttons to talk and most people have unlimited talk time.
The sun sets in the west and rises in the east. Just sayin, lol.
Longest we’ve ever seen your Adam. Looking sexy me boy
I live in colorado springs. And yup drivers suck
I know Canada is beautiful, but I'm enjoying seeing my home country first.
