I would give my left pinky for more Epica on this channel, they are the peak of Symphonic Metal.

yes, easily in my top five, if not top 3 favorite bands of all time (so far 😋)

You should definitely listen to their song Kingdom of Heaven pt 3 from Omega Alive.
Ps. The song is inspired by the movie From Hell

Epica is such a great and underrated band, they deserve so much more

agreed, somehow I found Epica before nightwish....so once I listened to Epica discography for a while then heard that nightwish was way more successful I was like "oh shit I bet they are even better!!"
sadly though not how it panned out...for me personally anyway, nightwish may be older but overall Epica is superior to nightwish

This reaction made me a happy camper :) I absolutely love how grandiose this track is, and how it just keeps building on top of ideas, getting grander and grander with each section. Glad you enjoyed it too.
And I feel like I say this every time, but it's so cool to me how you can take a track I've listened to for years and make me see it in a new light and show me compositional details I'd never noticed before or never had the technical vocab to describe.
My new music theory vocab word for the day: fermata
And bonus words of the day: legato vs staccato (until now, I thought legato meant slow.... so thanks for that explanation)

Glad I help you appreciate your favorite song even more. As for another bonus, to play slowly is "adagio"

@@CriticalReactions Indeed, Epica musical compositions are brilliant, not only this one.
4 out of 6 band members have degree in music. The main composer is Mark Jansen (the founder, guitarist and growler) who has degree in psychology. I guess that may also help with writing interesting lyrics, although this one was co-written by Simone Simons, the lead soprano (she writes lyrics for almost 50% of their songs). Although Mark is the main composer, all band members contribute to songwriting and that's why Epica music is so great and diverse. You should definitely react to them more often. Each of their 8 studio albums contains several masterpieces. This band is incredible.

@@cancelled_user wait is he talking about adagio musically or the Epica cover from the classical conspiracy (from Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, From the New World)??
cuz if he's done anything from that album I need to check ASAP 😂

To be fair, I don't really find these songs myself. This community is such a deep well of band knowledge and I wouldn't be able to do what I do without them. ♥

would love to hear what a 19th century classical composer could do with growling and distortion

I think I mentioned on the last Epica video that they're a band whose discography I went through back when I was exploring power metal, and I found them a solid, enjoyable, but unspectacular band. I don't remember this song in particular, but it's definitely one I heard and I think it fits in with my general impression of the band, though I really do dig the female vocals on this one.
Also, FYI, "chasing the dragon" is slang for smoking opium (dragon is slang for opium in Asian cultures). Steely Dan has a song called Time Out of Mind about drug use that also contains the phrase "chase the dragon" (song is straight fire too, though completely different from this): ruclips.net/video/9rVmVIWChSI/видео.html

I haven’t directly compared the two, but you might want to check out the original version vs remastered to see if all of the sound dynamics are the same.

The most intense black metal album i have ever listened to is pyha haunted house.
The best black metal album is skagos anarchic.
The tightest is cradle of filth damnation and a day.
The most savage is weakling dead as dreams.
Most interesting is green carnation light of day day of darkness.
    Skagos win though

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Visuals can distract me from the music sometimes plus I can get higher quality audio from Apple Music.
