I unboxed a sewing machine I'd had for months on the shelf just to make these for my angels. They love them and look like they were made custom for them! Appreciate all the little tips for those of us who haven't sewed in decades :-P
Hi Sophie, I am so excited that you were able to get your machine out of your box. I’m also happy that the pattern worked for you as well as it did for us. They were easy to make and our girls really appreciated them as well. I’m glad I could give you a few little insider tips for making them. thanks so much for your comment! It’s always good to hear from viewers! Blessings on your angels! 😁
Thank you so much for posting this video! I made a few saddles for some of my girls out of a pair of old blue jeans. They went from having bald spots and bare backs to fully feathered in a several months. The jackets turned out to be pretty durable as I have them washed and stored for next year just in case!
You are so welcome! My goal is to be beneficial to my viewers. I am so glad you were able to make some and that your girls are back to their full feathered beauty! They are very sturdy if you use the denim. Mine are washed up and ready to go when needed again as well. Thank you so much for posting and letting me know that these worked for you. You have blessed me! 😁🤗
I really appreciate the explainations. I'm not very experienced in sewing and you have taught me some new things. Or things I once knew, but long forgot, like clipping the corner. Thank you
Kat, thanks so much for watching and it makes me so happy to know that someone gained something from my video. I so appreciate you sharing. If it’s not something you do regularly it’s definitely easy to forget the little things. Have fun on your next project! Blessings on your day!
One of my girls has a bear spot and I found your video and the pattern and made her a saddle. Thanks for doing this video and for finding the pattern for us.
You are so very welcome! I hope it keeps her from losing more feathers and gives her time to heal. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Blessings!
Thanks for watching Kimberly! I hoped that someone who had not done a lot of sewing would appreciate the little extra tips. I appreciate your comment very much! Blessings on your project!
Thank you! One of my girls has a bald spot and some sores I noticed yesterday so my task this morning is making one of these. I love this design as it’s simple and seems effective. 😊
Oh my goodness, I hope this helps! Our girls left theirs on for about six months. After the initial putting on, it didn’t seem to bother them at all. And they did not fall off. Blessings and enjoy! 🐓
Right? I was going to just buy them but the reviews were so bad that I searched for a pattern. I made six of them in a little over an hour. They were so easy!
Good question Linda! I suppose if I had an old wool sweater I would wash it to felt it and then cut out of that for the top side. What do you think about that? Or, I suppose you could work some lanolin into the denim or cotton to make them more moisture resistant. You could add lanolin to the wool too. Thanks so much for watching and thank you for your comment that made me have to use my brain. I love it! Blessings! 😁
Hi, thanks for asking. Such a good question. They have held up perfectly. We actually have taken them all off at this point because they have stopped pecking at each other. But they wore them for about four months straight. It never bothered them. They slept in them and wore them all the time. The denim is a really good choice as a lining fabric. I have washed them and put them away in case we need them again. Enjoy!
Hi Jan, there is a link to the pattern in the description box of this video. Let me know if you can’t locate it. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. 😁
Oh man, if only I knew of a way to sew something for that. I did look up how to protect chicken wings that have been getting pecked on. And this is something I read online… You may not like the idea of using BluKote on her, but it really helps to prevent pecking, and re-pecking out of feathers by her and others. It will turn her feathers and skin dark purple, but it will eventually fad and grow out after her feathers are all in. It has to be re-applied every 3 days or so to help, but I have had head feather pecking in my polish chickens, and it has helped to heal them completely when they have been severely scalped. A bad tasting ointment such as Nustock or menthol (BenGay, etc.) might help also. I had never heard of BluKote, but apparently it’s an antiseptic spray for healing, and I guess it taste really nasty if the other hens peck on her. If you try one of these things, let me know if it works. Or if you find another solution, I’d love to know that too. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting. I hope my answer is helpful. Blessings.! 😁
@@OpenHandFarm Thanks for the ideas. I did make two with a separate piece sewed on top that does not get tucked under the wings when they fly around. It stays in place on top pretty good. It does need to be a bit stiff, sitting on top like a pancake but more the shape of a figure 8 , not as skinny in the middle as a figur 8 would be, sew it on in the middle TOP ( as near the neck as possible) back with about two inches apart seams that are an inch long. Google "hen saddle with wings protection." These patterns pop up.
Oh wow, I have never heard of that. I tried looking on Google to see if I could find something for that and I can’t. I wonder if there are other videos that might have a plan for that. Thanks for watching! 😁
My cockerels have a father around 17 lbs. They are docile but so heavy, id have to keep them away from hens without a saddle. So i need to make em to stay on and hold that huge bird. My hens are large as well. No silkies are anything liie that. I have huge birds for fertilizer. Thats their msin purpose , to eat and poop and be pets.
Thanks Joanne, I suppose that is a good point. Our chickens are completely enclosed and predators cannot get to them so we don’t worry about it but I guess if they were out where they could be attacked that would make a difference. Thanks so much for bringing that to my attention. Blessings!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and give us the link to the pattern! I’m planning on making these for a friend. ❤
Yay! I am so glad you like them. I hope your friend gets good use out of them! 😁

Thank you so much for sharing! I wanted to help my girls without having to separate them and this is great and affordable!

Great instructions and Mark was so helpful
Thanks! He was definitely a trooper especially with the mess on his shirt! 😂
Thank you so much! Great video and so easy to follow!
I’m so happy you liked it! Show me pictures if you make some! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words!
A pattern exists, to do that? Now I've seen everything lol. ❤

Would you change materials for a wet climate?

how have these been holding up. Do you take them off before sleeping at night?

Where did you get the pattern? Or can you give dimensions?

How long is the elastic?
Hi! The elastic is 11 inches. Thanks for watching! Hope they help your birds! 😁
My hens wings are what is torn up the worst. I need saddles that will protect their wing bones which are bare and raw from our two roos jumping them.

Anybody made little Hats to protect the back of their Heads where the Rooster grabs them? Does that work?

Bright colors attract predators. Just saying
