😮For those who don't know, "The Snowman" is a shortish animated film that's a real tradition on TV in the UK; it's been on every single year (usually on Christmas Eve, I think) since the early 80s and that advert is really good recreation of both the animation and the music. I would have expected most people who hadn't seen the film to not really get the advert, but I guess that it just goes to prove how well done it was that he still found it funny!

One of the classic British animations of that time which traumatised a generation. Basically, a snowman comes to life and takes a boy on a magical journey to see Father Christmas. The next day the boy wakes up to find that his new friend is dead. Other classics of this time include Watership Down, which is basically about a gang war between bunnies, Plague Dogs, where a couple of dogs escape an animal testing laboratory, and one of them spends the whole film slowly dying, and When the Wind Blows, where an old couple try to survive after a nuclear holocaust. The UK had a different attitude towards children's cartoons than Disney back then, which seemed to want to teach them that there is no hope.

The one that's missing is the keystone. The legend was "made in Scotland, from Girders" (Glasgow was one of the UK's biggest towns for shipbuilding). The Ad that started it all was a boy's bottle of Irn Bru being run over by a steamroller, and it wrecks the steamroller's barrel. The boy then pulls the bottle out and continues drinking. It makes sense of all the clanging sound effects in some of them.

      Not difficult. Coke is awful.
It was always beaten by Pepsi in proper taste challenges, mind you both of them were always beaten by RC Cola. The one with the most sugar always wins. Fun facts: All colas are a distant second to fizzy Guarana drinks throughout South America, Venezuela always drank more Pepsi than Coke, until their bottler switched sides overnight. Its all in the marketing, Coke see water as a "competitor for a share of stomach". Not a fan of Coca Cola having worked both with them and against them in my time.

Irn-Bru, the common tagline is "made from girders" and it does contain at least a small proportion of Ammonium Ferric Citrate, a form of iron. That said, apparently in its history it had to change its name from "Iron Brew" due to food/drink labelling laws. That said, it's far more iconic having this name.

The ironic thing is the law that made them change the name to Irn-Bru has long been retracted but they would not change back now that it is such a major brand. Any off brand imitations now call themselves "Iron-Brew" 🤣

No.1 and 3 were brought out in the 80's and parodies Coca-Cola and Pepsi adverts from that time. Both Coca-Cola and Pepsi hired big stars most notably Michael Jackson to promote their product. The adverts were along the lines that drinking either products made life better like it was an elixir of happiness. There's a segment in No.3 where a guy does MJ's moonwalk which pulls up the paving stones because Irn Bru makes you strong.
