    The guy who owns it is a legend - 'New cars are cool, supercars are amazing, but _I_ love American muscle'.
    Some of the dickheads on RUclips could learn from that - love what you love, but respect what other people love.

    When I got out of the Army my dad surprised me with a beater 68 Impala. I was just grateful to have wheels ( Uncle Sam didn't pay much) but my father (aircraft mechanic) had a big cheshire cat grin that I started to understand as I approached the junker and noticed how tight it sat and saw the dual exhaust and heard the healthy note. Long story short....he had found the perfect sleeper. An older couple had owned the car since new and though the body was rotted out the rat engine and turbo hydra matic had less than 50,000 miles. I had more fun with that "heavy Chevy" and a lot of great memories.

    After watching this, I was compelled to go out to the garage, fire up the BBC in my 68 Camino, and just sit in there.... Absorbing the reverberations of the galloping idle from a lumpy cam, occasionally cracking the throttle to clear its throat, and settle back into a glorious cackling rhythm.
    With all the gender identification nonsense going around lately, I might follow a similar suit. From now on, I am no longer human...

    • @waynebordman9982
      @waynebordman9982 6 лет назад +3

      To each his own ..I did"nt mean to offend anyone but i am a muscle car guy from way back.I still own a fully documented 69 Chevelle SS numbers matching car i bought 28 years ago and the four door cars were considered a sedan(i.e. family car) and the coupes were the performance cars.That is why you will never find a 60"s era muscle car configured as a four door car.

    • @dmer-zy3rb
      @dmer-zy3rb 6 лет назад +2

      chevelle coupe just made the backseats stupidly tight and didnt offer any advantages to the sedan (just like pretty much any coupe, ever) also it was possible to get a really fast 4 door chevelle.

    • @waynebordman9982
      @waynebordman9982 6 лет назад +2

      A coupe was built for racing and speed first and foremost.The back seat was not a priority.If you understand the musclecar culture back then most guys who bought these cars did"nt like having people back there anyway.It was extra weight.When we would go out cruising Friday/Sat. night we were interested in some action(street racing) or if we were lucky some hot chicks.Who coincidentally fit in the back seat just fine.LOL!I don"t know of any company GM or otherwise that ever built a performance 4 door Chevelle.There just was"nt any demand for it!

You see that coming up fast behind you an a highway and you're going to get out of the way. But that's one of the cool things about muscle cars, you can do pretty much what you like with them and no-one is going to turn around and tell you you're wrong unless you've totally ruined it, but no car guy or gal would do that anyway...

    Couldn't agree more. I love performance, it's all about getting the most out of what you have, and that's always a fun process. But there's something in simpler cleaner builds like this, that are just right. No need to go crazy over a milisecond here or a few kilograms there. Just make a bitchin' ride, that you enjoy, and ENJOY. Couldn't be simpler.

    I don't drive old muscle, some would even say I don't drive muscle at all (it's a touring car apparently) but my 2010 Challenger R/T is the first V8 vehicle I've ever owned. I know what this guy is on about, I feel amazing every time I drive this thing around. It's not manual (my jeep I traded in was) but the automatic in this car is actually quite amazing (never thought I'd say that), it feels like it reads my mind with the adaptive shifting. It need some work to get to where I want it, I've only had it for a few months. But I seriously feel like a superhero driving down the street in my batmobile or something, it's crazy, I feel like I should have done this sooner. But I got really lucky finding a used Plum Crazy Purple R/T with 55 000 kms on it so who am I to say my time was not now.

      Malicious SRT shes a rare colour, for this i am sure. I really wanna keep her, the only reason i sold my jeep quite literally is just because i wasn't using the 4x4 as much as i wanted to. (Pretty much no trails in my area) But this... this i can use. Only complaint is she goes way over the speed limit with very little effort, when i am doing 60km/h i press the gas a bit to get around a granny doing 55 all of a suddon i am doing 80 :-S

    • @Keego0201
      @Keego0201 9 лет назад

      Malicious SRT No doubt, I couldn't imagine the 6.4L. 5.7L is tons for me, but I rarely do highway driving anymore. I live 10kms away from work in town, which is nice for fuel. I find the challenger actually uses more fuel in town then my jeep (by 1 - 2L/100kms) but on the highway it's 3L/100kms better. (but I've never ran a full tank at highway speed). I feel like the guy who owned this car before me though did some modifications to the engine, or engine management, but I cannot tell to be honest. But the engine cover has Mr.Norms signature on it, so I can only guess.

    I have a 92 Olds Custom Cruiser that I threw some Cragars on with the fatter tiers in the rear. Every word that Mike said resonates in me, and I feel the exact same way. I've already been through the turbo'd four 12's in the 1/4 mile stage- enough to know that there'll always be someone quicker and with deeper pockets. I know my wagon isn't quick in any sense of the word, but the sound, the RWD V8, the presence, the simplicity of it all makes me love it every time I turn the key. My question is... what year would you say this all really ends? Not everyone can own a 69-70 Challenger or Chevelle, so where does that leave the rest of us? I hope I'm doing right keeping the tradition alive and well represented by taking care of my early 90's GM. Long live the muscle car era.

      Id say in general our overall current muscle car scene has stayed true to the form as welll, albeit Ford Australia and Holden are closing down production in 2 years. But what HSV and FPV have delivered over the past decade are incredible. Big full sized 4 door sedans with engines spinning 500+rwhp on the dyno with a mild tune and a good old fashion 6 speed manual box.
      Compared to a lot of the plastic mustangs and comaros getting around. or overpriced Cadillacs which have the same running gear as a 35k Holden SS.

    Oh hell yeah. It was the summer of 1969 when I drove a 1969 4-door over 5,000 miles round-trip with my mother and three children under seven in tow - I was all of 15 years old (permit with an adult in the front seat). It was a 396, but only had a two barrel carburetor on it. No power anything, to include AC. Black vinyl top to make matters worse in the summer. I loved the lines of that car - the motor had all of 265 HP, but a hefty 400 lb. ft. of torque. Later, my Pop put in an after market under-dash AC unit, cheapskate that he was. It's no accident his actions allowed all six of his children to earn full four year college degrees - I can vouch for that. Great car and thanks for sharing. Awesome.

    It's actually a classic car done tastefully. He's right, too many "muscle cars" these days are overdone. They end up being just another modern "kit car" with a classic shell. All the feel of a classic car is gone.
    The fun bits I remember about my '76 Duster (may it rust in pieces) are that when you punched the gas, it rose up on one side, the leaf springs in the back settled in, and you were off just quick enough. The car had a feel to it that you knew exactly how it would respond and where its limits were. When you went around a corner, just a slight flick of the throttle and a pull on the steering wheel would throw it into a full-on drift. Completely controllable. The car bounced, rolled, and did everything they try to stop cars from doing today. And, if I had it again, it wouldn't be any other way.

    Just my opinion but I think this is a really nice resto-mod. I could pick that out from the get-go.
    If you want something realllllly no bs, there's the Biscayne 427 and only around 540 were made. Rock bottom Chevrolet with no options and a big engine. True sleeper, with absolutely no chrome . Body color rain drip moldings, no wheel well moldings, and body colored pillars and door window frames. The sleeper would also have bench seats and a column shift. On similar lines is the Yenko Camaro.
    This Impala is really awesome but its no sleeper. If you were a muscle car enthusiast you can pick it out as a muscle car, but its a resto-mod. This Impala is pretty snazzy with it Strato Bucket Seats. Check out the articulated windshield wipers.
    Shoulda kept the Rallye IIs.

    Ran into a guy last week with an old Packard... sporting a 5.9 Cummins under the hood.
    The car had rust patches, faded chrome and cigarette burns in the seats.
    But you should have seen the smile on that man's face when he fired it up and drove away... who cares what the "cool kids" are doing? If a car makes YOU feel good, then that is all that matters.
    I feel like that is the heart of a muscle car, that feeling of steering a barely tamed beast and just knowing that somewhere in all that metal is a soul.
    The driver might be the only person who appreciates it... but it is his to appreciate.
