Ill admit as a Samsung user for years, Apple has killed it with the battery life game for the last gen and this new gen, Android seriously needs to step up in that department.
I think you're precisely right. I think it's a risk vs reward factor for apple. They have much too much to risk losing if a battery blows up on a customer than what they would gain in sales with faster charging. They'll eventually get there (as they're always late to the party) but only once it's perfected.
Android phones are charging at >100W and no exploding batteries so far. You just need a good BMS to avoid exploding issues (which is a pretty extreme case scenario). I believe Apple does it because: a) Their customers don't really care as long as it's quick enough and b) A slower charging speed = lower heat and longer battery life in the long-run.
It's just apple holding your hand not trusting the user. Trying to get people to not charge above 80% so the longevity is there on the batteries and people don't get pissed of when they need to replace their battery to an extreme price after two years, and the up sale to a new phone doesn't stand up so well as technical advances with new generations have stagnated.
@user-hs2hd7wp9g Apple are also experts at holding off on new features until it becomes apparent they have to include it. They'll probably add 45 watt charging within the next 2 years and call it Bionic Charging or something and then make it only work with their own specific charging brick (sold separately).

I ignore stuff like this as most people either charge overnight, can top up during the day, or like me only use about 50% a day so just charge from 25-75% and can complete that in under 30 mins without killing the battery cycles.
