Go to your Local Garden Center and ask for a season Planner for your area. That's all you need to go by. It's tailored to what location you live. Includes dates of what and when to plant.

Getting a 3-year pocket calendar and tracking your daily weather you can begin to average out your own garden frost data, the more years you track the better you will know your frost dates. Also tracking daily soil temps is a good idea, it helps narrow down (i do it for a weekly average) when the soil is warmed enough for direct seeding in the spring and transplanting for the main growing season.

I would love a video on how to affectively direct sow seeds if possible. I am a huge procrastinator and I also don't have seed starting space so that would be greatly helpful for me. Love your channel 😁
Hey, ACRE HOMESTEAD did a video on "The Best Way to Organize Your Seeds" using this exact photo box on January 8th. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Oh, and thanks for the note you sent to my house. Be sure not to disagree with Jill, people.
Why is gardening so terrifying? I'm not afraid to take on any animal for training but growing food for us scares me. So super frustrating 😤 🤣 I am so very grateful to you and Jess for putting these vlogs out there. You ladies are teaching me so very much. Thank you!
Thank you Jill reminder to wait. It's really important to do time right your area. The seed storage aka photo boxes have been a awesome for organizing. QUESTION: what flower types do you start later? Reading some of my packages they seem to need more time. Thanks for awesome vlog & have a great day
I take those calendars with a grain of salt. My "last frost" is in March, yet we almost always get a light frost in early May. Every calendar says to plant out peppers and eggplants in April, but I know better.
Hardening off is the heart wrenching part. In 6a zone New Jersey I can’t trust Farmer’s Almanac so I go by past calendars I’ve kept. No plants outside until May 20 and expect cold weather by October 1. All over the state relatives follow these same dates for generations of gardeners. Now if the weather stays warmer longer into the Autumn, yeah. But consider that a gift from God cause it’s not ‘normal’. 🌸
Last year my Frost date was beginning of April & we had a freeze in April. This year I'm not transplanting until May 1. This year I'm gonna start more seeds myself & not buy from garden center.
My start dates for seed germination can't come soon enough! January and February are always my hardest months to get through. 😭 I just know it's 55 days until spring! And a 6 weeks until I can start my seeds indoors! 🥰
I am starting seed for first time this year also I wish I could get some 2.5 pots from Johnny's I just can't this year it will be a red solo cup year to be able to build the fences and raised beds this year
I am so excited to grow my first spring garden!!! I got a lot of fulfillment and joy from my first fall/winter garden. Thanks for all the tips, chica! Stay smiley 🧡🧡
You're in my favorite spot! ❤ Totally adore everything about that greenhouse, sorry it's not level.😉 I'm loving the G.G. course. Trying to convince Jess to do more G.G. Tshirts & sweatshirts....
Good info Jill, Thanks! I've been gardening for a several years now, but still learning more from others like you. I just now ordered a set of the WWF Bootstrap Farmer pots. I got a case of black ones last summer but I couldn't pass up adding a little color to my seed starting racks. Thanks for doing those!
Thank you so much for all the info! I really like your photo organizer idea, I am hoping to start that this year. I am curious what garden app you use?
My last frost was a full month late last year and 2 weeks late in 2020. It's supposed to be March 17 but I'm aiming for April 1 based on our recent history. Our first frost has also been late; 4 weeks late in 2020 and 5 weeks late in 2021.
Don't the gamble with frost dates could be just another gardener experiment that could give pleasant result, might not, might just be a learning experience. But, as you say, if one is depending on that plant, because of space or time constraints, better to keep in mind the average last frost. When I started the plan for my property, my plan was to not have a plan! I figured that would make a forest garden look more natural. But as the reality of the immense job set in, I realized I needed to be planning to a certain extent. WRT the plants that don't transplant well, the trick is to have them in big enough cup and let the soil dry a little bit so you can move them from cup to ground with zero disturbance of the roots.
My Mom who had gardened all her life always told me to wait until after Easter. She said everybody gets too rushed and end up losing plants. I'm in NE Texas, zone 8a, and our last frost date is April 2nd and Easter is April 17th, two weeks later. It's going to be extremely hard to wait. So I think I'll see what the weather forecast says and decide when the time comes. Although, here in Texas, the weather is crazy too. Hard to go by the forecast. So idk what I'll do! lol!! I did start celery seed and bunching onion seeds today in the house. :)
why not just make a chart for Last frost dates, and succession growing. See example I am making up last frost date spring is 5/1. 2 weeks is 4/17, 4 weeks is 4/3, 6 weeks is 3/20, 8 weeks is 3/6, 10 weeks is 2/20.... then you dont have to constantly look up the dates. then write in which crops are for which time frame starts you can write (1) for first sow, (2) for second sow etc after each item on your chart.
@@WhisperingWillowFarm I don’t have the room for a greenhouse. I think I will try my first attempt at winter sowing in mid February. My last frost date is April 15 so I need to get the flower seeds out there soon. I just haven’t received my order yet from John Scheepers. Hopefully they come soon! LOL I just got my Burgess catalog. Have you ever ordered from them? Their prices seem incredibly low but I’m wondering about their germination rate and how they source their seeds.

Do you happen to remember when the last frost was last year. I’m also in central Arkansas. It seems like we did have a later frost.
We did but I can't remember the dates
Could you please say the app’s you use to keep up with gardening please?
What apps do you use for tracking your garden?
When should I start brassica and greens seeds for growing in green house beds in zone 6b?
Great question. If you have a heat source then you could start now. If not I would wait until first of April

You can find them at Michael's, Amazon, Hobby Lobby, and several other places

Depending on how small your garden is early in the season I have to use upside-down clear storage tubs to protect my plants from wind and cold.
In Central OH, the last date to plant to be sure of NO frost is May 15, too.
