    This is model making on another level , it's beyond a model boat , this is a miniature ship , museum class work . And you do this in your spare time . Very well done , just doesn't seem enough . Fantastic and aspiring , congratulations .

    It is sink plated steel sheet mostly, but also brass and copper. It is al soldered with lead/tin 60/40 and S39 with a soldering tool, no flame.

    Answer on fiberglass: my goal is not to work as fast as possible but to work with metal as I was a teacher in this kind of work. It is easyer to make a hull of fiberglass but it is inpossible to make all smaller parts of fiberglass. And I like computing as a preparetion for the laser cutting. So, that's why.

    Absolutley beautiful. I was thinking of building one of these ships, but of a cruise ship or something similar. I have a few questions on how you completed yours:
    1) What computer program did you use?
    2) What type of metal did you use? Did the shop cut it for you, or did you do it yourself?
    3) What did you construct the smaller superstructure components out of?
    Thank you very much. Again, the model is breathtaking.

    Ah-Mazing craftsmanship. The details (such as the locks on the water-tight doors) are simply remarkable. I would have guessed a thousand hours- so 800 seems reasonable for such a beautiful scale model. If you've got more photos/videos, I'd love to see them! Out of curiosity, do you do commission work?

    With new advantages of metal 3D sculpting & hardware stores, plus online shopping, you can start to see some very impressive models, if you tinker well enough, would like to see some impressive battleships or carriers come to life,.....just avoid actual mini planes taking off,

  • @mglasbergen
    @mglasbergen  12 лет назад

    It takes about 800 hours to make it this way. I use brass because it is almost impossible to solder aluminium and brass is very easy to solder with lead.

  • @mglasbergen1

    I made the files for laser cutting with Autocad, any version will do. And indeed, the steel sheet metal was cut by laser, all brass parts made by hand. The real ship is 40 mtr long and the model is 1 mtr long, scale 1 : 40.

    How would I design plans for a fictional model RC ship that would be 1:87th scale? (The class of ship would be a general cargo ship, the reason that I choose this type of ship is because of its cranes that are mounted on the deck, and its ability to hold cargo in its hold).
    I would like to design a ship that would be capable for outdoor sailing, while still being capable of unloading/loading model containers from its hull.
