Excellent video with very helpful tips. I plan to build a model towboat using solid redwood blocks cut to shape and adding much detail to the exterior as you recommended. You encouraged me to try. I live in Western Kentucky along the Ohio - I see many towboats every day.
Hi Ross, great video of your scratch build. I always enjoying watching your build videos for the different models - real common sense tips and advice! Thanks
So your frames that go on your keel is called bulkheads in shipyards terminology. But beautiful build this is how I build balsa wood giant RC aircraft using the plans from the kit and tracing every part out then transfer it from the paper I traced it onto onto the balsa wood or hobby grade rc aircraft ply wood for what ever I'm building or piece on aircraft is different thickness and type of balsa woods. But every time I have funny angles to rolls or shape strips of balsa I take a wash cloth fill a bowl up with water then boil it in microwave til water is super hot then use damp hot wash cloth to lay over the balsa pieces I need to curve and shape works everytime and use CA glue as you go and slowly glue it then move down further curve it then glue that spot and keep doing that until your whole piece is glued and curved at same time very easy
That looks lovely!!! Been wanting to do a ship model for my layout and this was very helpful!
Thank you!
Great quality video, and a good looking model. Loved hearing you talk!

That’s a really beautiful boat! Cardboard really is a nice material to work with. Its quite strong, flexible, easy to cut and manipulate.

I love your build, thank you very much for sharing. What filler did you use on the hull?
The filler is PAL Patchfiller from the hardware store.
