Mayu, Today I harvested 2 boxes of honey from the top boxes. I was pleasantly surprised to see these boxes packed with honey. Last year, same time , I harvested just one top box. This time I could have taken one more box but I decided against it and left it for the bees. I have made my own pile hives and successfully...successfully got good quality honey. So, I thank you and your channel for excellent guidance. 😊 Tomorrow I will check the second pile hive at Dehradun India.

Most beekeepers here in Japan keeping native bees don’t feed their bees (but some may if they feel it is absolutely necessary). Treatment is normally necessary because Japanese bees are well adapted to the environment. Varroa isn’t a problem because Japanese bees are excellent groomers (they evolved along side Japanese bees). Only problem is tracheal mites, which were introduced via Western bees. Sometimes beekeepers treat with menthol.

I've heard that framed hives have the issue of using old comb for brood leading to smaller bees since the old comb has less space for the larva to turn into bees. This method is so cool for the removal, if not complete lack, of that problem. I imagine with framed hives you could add a box to the bottom, maybe at the beginning of the season, and the queen would move down.

Where is Mayu-san's bee hive located? Where does she live? I would love to visit. I am studying how to catch a swarming hive here in Japan and discovered an app that bee keepers can post to keeping track of swarming hives. My neighbor caught a swarm outside his front door in a small plum orchard several years ago. He built a hive and was amazing to watch these bees. Unfortunately, the guy he was renting his property from squealed on him forcing him to stop raising bees because some guy on the other side of the river was in the business of bee keeping and a bee keeping hobbyist threatened his business. I was extremely upset by this because I used to go visit him several times a month to watch the bees.

До такого і нам потрібно приходити, якщо хочемо побороти Варроа. Я в цьому році заклав експеримент з чотирма вуликами. Поки що все добре. Результати і висновки будуть в кінці цього сезону на моєму каналі.

Do these Japanese pile hives have a restrictor to keep the queen and brood in the lower boxes, or do the Japanese bees naturally keep the brood in the lower hive? Also, do they collect and store pollen/bee bread in the lower brood comb?
Thanks for the video! Interesting to see how docile the Japanese bees are. Hoping that Western diseases like Foul Brood and the aggressive genes that have spread throughout Europe and the Americas don't infect the native Japanese bees.

Bees tend to keep their brood lower part of their hive.
And there are enough space for bees to continously build new house for egg and queen because beekeepers take the upper part and add new box low.

Africanised bees are only in the Americas, we don't have them in Europe.
