This album picks up RIGHT where the Minstrel Show left off. I agree with Myke...you could have called this Minstrel Show 2. It’s a phenomenal album. Great lyricism & great beats. Easily one of the best albums of 2019 and my personal favorite. And yes...I DID listen to it 7 straight times 🤣
Man, so glad you fellas loved this album as much as i did. You turned me on to Phonte and LB, for which I am ever grateful. As a 46 y/o guy in Cape Town, South Africa, this album is everything I love about Hip Hop: Razor sharp lines delivered with a casual confidence, thought provoking themes and humor all packed in a crate of boom and bap (not the trap). This stuff is life, man. I don't even feel like I miss 9th on this - he may have laid out the roadmap, but Pooh and Phonte are simply taking it to familiar but different places. RIP Percy Miracles
@@l...m9415 They can skip a lost tapes 2 review. I loved that Little Brother and listened to it Tuesday-Friday when the Rapsody dropped...Eve is one of those albums that deserves to be talked about forever.
According to Phonte during their interview with The Premium Pete Shiq, 9th was part of the album until some disagreements with his productions and etc.
I honestly thought the first Foreign Exchange album was some of Phonte’s best work, super slept on. Plus, he was rapping on that album, so the transition hadn’t fully been made yet.
What up y’all, great review, fire album. They said in an interview the reason they had references to a character dying in their skits was to simulate how people come together after awhile when there’s a death in the family; regardless of how long they’ve been apart, regardless of why they stopped speaking.
That's a result of the death of Phife dawg . Apparently after he passed away, it lead to Phonte and Pooh getting back to speaking terms because it made them realise how much they meant to each other.
This album was fantastic. Easily one of my favorite albums of the year. EDIT: By the way, are y’all gonna review that new Murs album “The Iliad is Dead & The Odyssey is Over”?? It’s really good. Even if you don’t review it, please listen to it.
I was in the exact same boat as B. Before I played it, I was like "oh 9th ain't back with them" but once I played it I forgot he wasn't on it haha. AMAZING ALBUM!
I never see anyone talk about The Chittlin Circuit (both the original mixtape and the 1.5 release), it's a great in-between release of The Listening and The Minstrel Show and has some great tracks that easily fit with the songs of the albums it's sandwiched between. Welcome to Durham, Nobody Like Me, On the Way, Starvation, The Honorable, Take It There, Altitudes, I See Now, What You Do, Ladies' Jam, The Beginning, etc.
Hearing this, I predict that the next album is gonna be with 9th producing every track. They said this isn't the last album they're doing. So let's see how long they keep it going for now that they're back together! I'm so excited!
Huge fan of Phonte. Little Brother is one of my favorite groups, but I have to say, Big Pooh out rap Phonte on this project, and he should get more credit cause dude is a spitter.
Myke hit the nail on the head. 9th couldn't have offered anything much more to Little Brother than what they got for this album besides his name. This album was all them and THEY made it special. I was pleasantly surprised to press play and walk away with an AOTY quality album. I love it.
@@anthonywilliams9415 man I agree and I usually dont dabble into too many rap albums but these releases this year have been really good, chill, and simple or in other words true hip hop music.

I wasn’t expecting Myke to enjoy it moreso than Rod. I feel like Ken and Rod misses the nostalgia of 9th being in LB and thats okay. I disagree, lol but that’s okay.
I understand that feeling but Dave's "PSYCHODRAMA", Benny Starr's "The Water Album", Freddy Gibbs & Madlib's "Bandana, SOL Development's "The SOL of Black Folk", and Your Old Droog's "Transportation" are definitely in the running.
@Eric Davis. I am not surprised at all. If it wasn't for DEHH I wouldn't have listened to Open Mike Eagle's Brick City Kids Still Daydream. I thought that album was amazing. Even still there are so many albums that we might miss, so I constantly look for people's lists to see what I might have missed. Last year I had a solid list in my top ten that included Saba, Lupe, Benny, Phonte, and a couple others. Then out of nowhere I ran into an self titled album from Avantdale Bowling Club that destroyed my list. I have given that album to people who have no desire to listen to hip-hop and they are amazed by the structure of the songs, the playing of the instruments, and the extremely mature storyline throughout the project. I was hoping that DEHH would have reviewed it because I thought Myke, Ken, and the rest would have definitely had this album in their top ten. I thibk they didn't here it though. That's the way it goes...so much music.
I feel Rod is just nostalgic for the 3 man weave Little Brother (The Listening, Minstrel Show) so he feels odd listening to it without 9th. Ken is moreso just curious about what a 3 man reunion would be with 9th a part of it.
Except for Rod, you guys were in my head! I could even predict what lines from the album that you all said you liked. I'm so happy they did this. Waiting for the Rapsody review too cause I know yall got in the clip, ready to be released.
I love how these dudes breakdown albums and point out the lyrics that some people might miss, and then you go back and listen to that verse and realize that that you got to do a lot of rewinding. Maybe not the best, but my favorite album of the year by far... I think 9th not being on the album was a very solid decision production wise and for the perception of Te and Pooh's relationship... I feel like 9th's production still sounds as young as it did in 2005, just stronger, but I think that youthful production could have subtracted from the grown man bars they were spittin (nothing against 9th at all, he's still probably my favorite producer of all time) .. Its absolutely incredible that they didn't even speak to each other for 8.5 years and then after less than a year of working shit out they release an album of the year caliber project and arguably their second best album... I've heard people say this is a bad year for hip hop, and every time I hear/read that I say they're nuts... Bandana, Eve, LB, Plugs I Met, Dreamville, 9th x Murs, etc.... All this year has done is weed out some of the fads of the past 3-4 years...
You could list great albums in years of past though, I feel that people say this year is bad because of the albums that should have been good but disappointed. Thankfully, LB did not follow that trend.

Rap AOTY contender, this album is amazing.
One of the most cohesive projects all time no doubt
Myke the Kid C Town and crew back again!

Meh...
@Peruvian Leftist Fella it's just my opinion the whole profiting of black death is kinda a stretch
