@Daniel Hill with all of them, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they have to review it. And deep down, they'd rather not be that person that gets on cam trashing someone's hard work, or at the very least, really wanna try to understand what other people see in that artist and contribute meaningfully to the conversation.
It has style, structure, and lyrics that actually mean something.. Wayyyy better than any garbage Drake puts out... I'm willing to bet you listen to that commercial crap with everything autotune. This style of rap will always be around.. Ask Public Enemy :)
As a fan since XXX, this is such a satisfying album to close the decade for Danny. It's basically his celebratory, free album away from the pressure to drop some experimental rap opus. It'll be a turnoff for some but it was a joy to listen to for me, feel like even non fans could put it on and enjoy. Can't think of a better way to follow up AE honestly. The editor's notes from apple music explains it pretty well: "If there is an overarching concept behind uknowhatimsayin¿, Danny Brown’s fifth full-length, it’s that it simply doesn’t have one. “Half the time, when black people say, ‘You know what I'm sayin',’ they’re never saying nothing,” Danny Brown tells Apple Music. “This is just songs. You don't have to listen to it backwards. You don't have to mix it a certain way. You like it, or you don’t."
100% man. love the avatar too. also a fan since XXX. that album still blows me away to this day. people seemed to love it at the time (at least those into experimental hiphop) but i hope it keeps getting its due throughout the years.. it has aged incredibly imo. chills every time on the closing track. the XXX cover is the first tattoo i ever wanted, i was 16 at the time i think. still havent gotten it but it's next on the list lol.
Such a dope album from Danny, it really feels like his career has come full circle and he's living his best life. The complete opposite to Atrocity Exhibition but still super enjoyable. Atrocity Exhibition is still on another level though. It is a perfect Danny Brown album.
@lizzy rosario In some ways agree, sometimes I feel they overrate some projects when there are weirder acts they ignore, are late to, or just don't get. But I still like hearing their take a lot.
I see a lot of people saying they don’t like this ‘change in style’ for Danny, but that’s how he sounded on his early mixtapes and first album. If anything this is a return to form for him.
@@spazdal1 damn that's when you know his new shit is classic, when it's even ahead of a dude like Q-Tip, who's production in the 90's is considered to be groundbreaking
this album really felt like a throwback to 90s/early 2000s rap albums. short, to the point, lots of variety, not too many features or strange detours, even the beats felt kinda throwback-y, like the more experimental rza and de la soul beats for instance
How Feefo not gonna review the one "toned down" Danny Brown album!?!? I wanted to watch this explicitly for his review/feelings on the project lol. I felt like he would love it.
This is an album of the year contender. Progress is always good. The issue with hip hop is progress isn't usually given respect it. His last album was a dark take now he's living his best life. Can't wait to see Q tip produce more beats for him
It’s not quite on Atrocity Exhibitions level, which is my album of the decade, but it’s still very good. Probably my 2nd/3rd favorite album of the year so far and if I had to rate it, I’d give it a solid 8.5-9/10. Danny is truly one of the GOATs. Also am I the only one that genuinely loves the title track? It’s one of my favorites on the album. So smooth.
Also I think Q Tip did have some say in Danny’s portrayal here. I remember him mentioning he was like “an actor in Q Tip’s movie” or something along the lines of that
DEHH, love how much y’all care about the artists you review even if you don’t like their latest. Y’all treat artists like you know them, offer support, opinions and praise even if you’re disappointed. I mean obviously with some exceptions, but this is the way I feel about artists I love; ok say they fucked up, I’m gonna express that but I’m not gonna run them down or shit on them. I want them to succeed bc of the connection I feel to their art and their just being out there doing it. To tune in for the type of critique & also encouragement from the DEHH crew to the artists you cover over the years is a like a balm to the acidic cold blooded critic community I feel so disconnected to. I’m glad y’all are they way you all are. Peace and thanks, from Central PA ⭐️❤️🙏😎
BounciestBen you realize there was two albums in between goblin and flower boy right which both had somewhat different styles so your comment doesn’t really make sense
Of course I know that. I’m just saying it takes time to evolve. It took Tyler 2 albums to get there, I’m implying that I think it will only take Danny one album to get his footing completely.
I personally loved this album, so thanks for the review! With all the features you guys gave a shout out on this album you didn't mention Obongjayar on belly of the beast and uknowwhatimsaying. I never heard about this dude before, but i think we can expect some great shit from this dude in the time to come.
N. B. Nah, Fantano hit the nail on the head. When the album first dropped, I was like “wow, that intro track was underwhelming “. The first track of an album is supposed to be straight fire to set up the rest of the album.
Personally I really like this album, not atrocity exhibition good but this is a great piece of work. Savage Nomad was hard asf and he just sounded comfortable
The thing is Danny is still RAPPIN on this shit. He is killing every bar every line his flow is crazy. Its a more laid back vibe but the production is still dope and Danny is as on point as ever. Also the beat on Savage Nomad is incredible that shit bangs!!

I love this album first listen, this was great and definitely one of the best release of this year. At first, I was hesitant because of Q-Tip executive production but this just clicked. Not a single letdown on here.
the title track is actually one of my favorite songs ever now. I actually kind of saw danny going in this direction though i listened to Atrocity Exhibition back in august for the first time in a long time and it clicked with with me a thousand times more than it had in the past. i think i just really realized how miserable he was in a real way like before that i just loved XXX because it was this funny as hell hard as fuck album tbh i really didn't get the depth of AE and yeah making this kind of thing is really the only logical step after AE to me It's just like him being the happy dude he's always wanted to be. Savage nomad has the best beat on the album change up, 3 tearz, dirty laundry and combat zone are dope as fuck though belly of the beast is kind of week, and i don't really like peggy's feature on negro spiritual, it's like peggy can do so much cool shit with his voice and he decides to do that. over all i'd give it a 10, not as good as Atrocity Exhibition but still pretty fucking cool
Didn’t think it could happen y’all, but I’m going to have to put this over Bandana, for my album of the year. What originally drew me to this album, was the fact that Q-Tip was getting involved. Never really thought much of Brown, beforehand. Now, can definitely say that I’m glad I gave this a chance. Q-Tip has given me another all time favorite beat to add to my list, with “Combat”. Also, Paul White? Man can he lay down some beats lol.
