Dowry Abuse is a Malayalam short film that brings out the emotional and physical suffering women face when forced to give dowry and takes the audience deeper into the violent circumstances of female victims of dowry abuse. The central message of the film is that women’s suffering from dowry and related social and cultural norms is a social problem shared by the whole family and not just the individuals in it. Men get to marry without giving a dowry, women are the ones who are promised a smooth and hassle-free life after marriage but among the lot of social evils this belief does not work out in reality.
