BRITISH BORN PUB LOVER this was actually a great guide, the scenarios were cringey but definitely informative. To anyone worrying about entering a British pub please take a deep breath, put on your happy feet and just remember your manners. There will be queueing when busy and you may have to wait a bit - the more you annoy the bartender the longer you wait. Never insult the service or decor, there is always "regulars" (customers who seem to spend their lives there) and they will defend their second home/families. Otherwise, just find the people who look like they have the same energy as you and go say hello. Pubs are called a "watering hole" because every kind of man and woman come together to enjoy a drink in the hope of talking to other people. Yes, that is what I said - most people are there to have a drink and meet other people and their culture. Sound familiar? ☮️
Hi. Thank you for the video! It`s very helpfull. May i ask about something? I think i will visit England soon and i would like to know how much tip I should leave in a pub or a restaurant?
Glad you enjoyed the lesson! Here are some pointers: Sometimes, a restaurant will include the tip, or service charge, automatically. It will sometimes be labeled on your bill. If it is included, you will not be expected to leave a tip on top of that. If it is not included, it's normal to leave a tip of between 12-15% of your bill. For a pub, you are not expected to leave a tip. If you ever feel unsure, feel free to ask as well!
Your videos are great, extremely educational, the best! I would apprecite if you posted one video about linking or transition words, which, I guess, could be more than one. Thank you very much.
@@Oxfordonlineenglish1 Thanks a billion for replying. I meant those word, or phrases we use to link clauses or sentences, like "however," "in addition," "on the other hand... "
My advice to you when you enter an establishment ask the bartender of they have any "guest ales", these are small batch brewers in the local area who sell to the pub.
Awesome, I know nothing about this. If I were going to a pub, I would check what I would want to drink first. Order it no matter what the bartender would say. :)
Sorry! We had some issues with the original sound, and had to replace it with the reference audio. We'll hopefully be able to re-record it and upload it next month.
Thanks for watching. Yes, we did list quite a few new vocabulary words and phrases! However, as with all new vocabulary, it's important to study the words and phrases which are useful to you first, and then small groups after that.

I agree but the pub in the UK is the social hub of every village,, town, borough or city. Plasterers to politicians to police officers to The Prime Minister drink in pubs.
Wow!! This really helps me! I am about to go to the UK to work, probably as a waiter, and I did not know many of these expressions! Thank you!!

Is there any other drink instead of wine ?
Hi Abdulghani, what do you mean? There are certainly other drinks besides wine, many of which are listed in the lesson.

Hi. I have a good experience without going to the pub.
Hi Stephanie
What if the Waiter didn't tell you all the types of drink
What would you say
Hi there. In this situation, you could ask about the drinks they offer, or ask for a menu.

Awful!
I think going to pubs could be weird for people who don't drink alcohol, like me.
I'm a nondrinker,Am I allowed in pubs?
