    We loved all 3 hours! We were engaged and never bored. Costner brought back epic Western to the silver screen. Can't wait for Part 2.

    This was a great watch, like I have said on twitter I could listen to you two talk westerns forever. I’m still super excited for it and hopefully seeing it on Saturday. I love Costner’s work as a director, it’s far from perfect. But he has this earnestness and kind of naivety that charms me. I’m not surprised by James or David’s reaction to it after reading some early reviews and now having listened to all your episodes together multiple times. But we are all western fans and we want these to do well. So I’m gonna be seeing it multiple times in theaters, something I rarely do. Cheers to you James and you David, two of my favorite film fans in the interwebs.

    Movie was amazing 🤩. But my 67yr old mom I saw movie with did get confused once or twice. Mainly with hidden time jump in beginning, but date and places were clearly text subtitled on the screen. I thought it was easy to follow tho.

    Great discussion and learned much about the film. I knew virtually nothing about Horizon. I understand your confusion of the first installment going in so many directions. I was wondering. Do you think, at Horizon, everyone/everything converges and there'll be a revelation of some kind? I'm thinking of High Noon. Everyone in town knew something was going to happen and actually experience the conclusion at high noon. Thoroughly enjoyed!

    Finally - Lambert's take was the one I was most interested to hear. A legit authority on not just the western as a film genre, but also a genuine historian of the period. A very rare combo.
    I have to say, the most disappointing thing I took away from this review was Costner not getting the period details correct - regarding the weapons and costumes. I would have thought that Costner, having tried to get this thing made for over 30 years - and now having spent his own money and resources to make it - would have taken extra care to get those details right - that authentically recreating the period as closely as possible would have been one of the main reasons to not just make the films, but also to sell them. Just because it's so rare that it happens - especially now that westerns as a genre are a legit endangered species. If you're not going to try and raise the level above something like Deadwood - and with a feature budget you have that ability - what's the point?
    Really deflated my interest now.

      I've oddly heard and seen the opposite from a number fo sources, that it is period accurate

      @gordoncutter9241 5 дней назад

      @@triplec3217 Oh really - who are the sources? Genuinely curious. Lambert's pretty reputable with these types of things. If he says something is inaccurate or off, you can take it to the bank.

    As someone born in the mid-90s, i have found westerns to have always been just out of reach. Recommendations on where to start? Most bang for your buck while also giving a good encapsulation for the genre? Maybe a recommendation per era would be appropriate? Love the channel!

    The boys going off to civil war. Saved the girls life. Traveled together for 30 miles. Made them feel at home. Had at least 2 or 3 scenes with Dr., Cafeteria, Laundry with them being nice to girl. Probably together for weeks. So she was sad that they were going to war, not a patrol or Indian skirmish. A war for at least a few months. I think that was enough character building for a few side characters. So many people just weren't paying attention during😢 this movie.

    I don’t understand why the die hards insist that this movie is revolutionary. As both of you mention you can respect the ambitions of this project- but not like the final finished product. I also agree that aside from the problematic structure of the film- it is very hard to feel invested in most of the characters. Tv format would have helped develop these characters. Simply put this movie tried to be too many things.

    • @raymondsmith6870

      Could you quote who these diehards are. I have not seen one person write or say it is revolutionary but more have said it is a throwback to classic old fashion moviemaking. Didn't see a inch of CGI in it.

    90s western from Costner. Sorry, sign me up. Name anything close to 90s westerns present time? Cowboys vs Aliens? Westworld? Hostiles, 310 to Yuma. True grit. besides Hostiles, name another original good western recently haha. Nit picking

    I've always thought that Kevin Costner is one of the blandest stiffs ever to become a major movie star. I can't understand why he couldn't sell this as a mini-series to somebody who, unlike me, is a big fan. It appears it's not even shot in scope, that's a big mistake if you're after a Cinerama western vibe. Oh well, I'll wait for the full-length boutique video release and watch it at home - there's no way it's gonna be the WAR AND PEACE of the American West.
