I am so glad you are promoting this movie, because we need more of these movies. I went to watch Horizon on the released date. My friend, & myself were the only ones in the theater. Don't get me wrong I was happy that I didn't have any interruptions from rude people, but was sad to know people don't appreciate good films like this. I truly love it, & enjoyed the 3hrs of this film. I truly hope, & pray this turns around for Kevin Costner, & more people go support, & watch on release date.
I am 73 years young! I live on the southern end of the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee! I loved your presentation! I was chopping cotton at 5 years old in western Alabama! Out house, shallow well poor pay etc. Didn’t know We were poor! I was much happier then in cut off jeans and a field hand straw hat! 25 cents for a half day work as a child! Our country is devoid of true constitutional freedom! It is our fault we have not followed our constitution and stood up to our elected officials and held them to account! Stand up America! Fight to restore our God given rights!!

I totally agree with your comments about Horizon. You and I saw the same Part 1 movie. The beauty of the west was shown so well. I grew up in western Kansas, lived in southwestern Wyoming (Jackson Hole) and now in Arizona, 50 miles from the Grand Canyon. I thought to myself-many people from back east have no idea what the west really looks like-it’s harsh beauty. We, living out here can too easily take the beauty of west for granted. This movie reminds us to keep looking at the plains, the mountains, and the skies! I look forward to Part 2 Horizon. Thanks for your “in depth” review.
I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and spent a good deal of my life on the East Coast in 4 locations. My life has taken me all over this country and overseas to a certain extent. In the last 2 1/2 years I have been traveling the West, house and creature sitting. This exploration has given me a newfound appreciation for the diversity of landscapes of our country and for the people who inhabit them. The American West is so very special and I am quite in love with it. There is no way that I could return to the East to live.

Spot on, Trinity! I loved Horizon! It is well adapted and shows many facets of the West at that time as you pointed out. Costner didn’t care if he was meeting Hollywood’s norms, or would get rave reviews or not or break bank in profits opening weekend. That wasn’t important to him. It was important to tell a story as true to the time, people and place as it could be told in the most authentic way. That was his concept and I believe he achieved it. I loved it. It was refreshing to have a filmmaker stay true to his project and not to Hollywood or some other agenda!

love this video! I am 75 years old yes (old) feel all 75 years. If I was born in that era I would probably be a Annie Oakly. But I loved the strong men and women that took care of their children. They did what they needed to do to survive. They didn't put their hand to the government to support them. Of course you still had the greedy and the bad guys. Plus the dogs even had a purpose and jobs. I think it is called pride in ones self. I watch these mothers now days on Welfare. Go get their nails and botox on pay day of their check. The children are out of food by the 15th. Welfare is ok for a hand up. Not a life style. The subject is to detailed to get into.
Yes. I see the purpose for welfare, as I do for many laws and programs. The problem is that they are abused so much that they no longer serve the purpose they were created for.

We've learned over the years living in the rural outskirts of Tucson that it is best to leave wildlife to their means of survival without trying to "help" them. Besides setting out water in the worst heat of the summer, we just observe and let them fend for themselves. We've learned not to judge animal behavior using human standards of morals and ethics, and we've learned a great deal from simply observing them and not interfering. We've learned that on their own they're incredibly well adapted, resourceful and resilient, and the less wary and more numerous of them become prey. Sometimes it's a matter good luck and bad luck. We incorporate these lessons in our own lives. We don't expect anyone to come to our rescue. We're also truly on our own, and act like it. We're going to watch this movie and I am confident we'll relate to it.

59-year-old disabled veteran here. I feel my years on me, too, but I see the scars as lessons learned. I can’t imagine my life without them, and I wouldn’t want to, either. My son is 27 years old and challenged with autism. I raised him on my own, with very little help, so I kept us close to the city, so that I could have access to various facilities for him, like the Y, for instance. It paid off, too. He was a member of a BSA group that specialized in western acting, and he was gifted with three very strong men of integrity as mentors, to whom he is still connected with today. He wants to learn survival skills and be a veterinarian technician. His autistic challenges have slowed him down a bit, but he’s determined to meet his goals and live his life to the fullest, and he’s not seeking handouts, but he does take the occasional hand-up. I couldn’t ask for better son.

I loved Horizon Chapter 1. A cowboy is who I believe a man should be and look up to: capable, calm, empathetic, honourable. A man who will die for his beliefs. A man who loves his woman. A man who pulls himself through the trying times and does what must be done
ok, what ''man who loves his woman"?? ....are you guys all trolls or patholigical liars. Dude, there is zero love story for Costner's character. She tricks him and leaves. WTH is wrong with everyone? He's barely on the screen! Their entire relationship lasts like 10 mins and is about as realistic as a cartoon. I am SO tired of people totally lying to hype up movies.
I LOVED Horizon! Stunning visually, evocative, an homage to Westerns, historically important. Our history. I've seen it 4 times in the past week on the big screen. First time I've been in a theater in 2 decades. Great storytelling. Important.❤

I absolutely agree about your assessment of Yellowstone. It was so distracting and lacking intelligent verbal content, I couldn’t get through an episode. The movie Horizon kept my attention throughout. Episode 1 sets the stage for the 3 episodes to follow. I’ve marked my calendar to watch for episode 2 to be released mid August.
this is helping me decide on this movie, thank you! I was a little on the fence about it. But I think I'll give it a chance now. I just did not have it in me to watch another movie where I need to ignore the plot bc the main draw is the setting! Like I love the landscapes but hate the characters so I constantly need to almost edit the movie on the go. Dunno if anyone else does that, but that was Yellowstone for me. the newer spin off series were a bit better...but still. It was hard. LOOOL!

Hollywood does not like real men, that's why I'm here. Thank you very much, Mr. Vandenacre. (My Ma thought Mr. Costner incredible actor/producer, just saying).
We should all go see this, in part to support this type of film making,. But also because this movie is important to preserve a part of American history that many dont want to be taught. Im glad people are making these movies. Costner, Eastwood, and Mel Gibson have all made some great content.
I haven't seen Horizon yet, but I will for sure. Hopefully I'll have a new favorite western. I'm still hooked on Lonesome Dove and Monte Walsh ( Tom Selleck ) version after all these year's.
As someone who loves quality Westerns that are willing to show the true story warts and all this is such a breathe of fresh air. Movies like the Searchers, Conagher, Bury my heart at Wounded Knee, and Hostiles all tell complex stories with flawed characters who try to live their lives in difficult times that require difficult choices. I have been a Costner fan since Dances with Wolves and that was reaffirmed with Open Range. I have been a Yellowstone fan but I totally agree the creud language, nudity, and the over the top violence were unnecessary and I could have done without it. I just wish that Horizon was completed so it could be watched start to finish.
I absolutely agree 100% with everything you said in this video. I loved the movie and it didn’t feel like 3 hours. Costner’s character was great but so were all the other characters. Lots of incredible actors. Very excited for Part Two.
A few things stood out One was Costner wanting to make this particular movie for decades. I think Yellowstone was just a means to an end. I always liked him just for the respect he showed the author and story of Dances with Wolves. Love it or hate it, he actually made a movie that was faithful to the book. He has an eye for detail. Other thing was the story you told about your ancestors leaving the baby under a tree, guarded by the dog... my grandparents did that to me 🤣 my granny used to love telling the story about leaving me on a pallet while she and pappa worked in their garden. Their old white English bulldog, Lady, would stay with me the whole time. If i tried to crawl off the blanket, Lady would get up and lay down in front of me. She was a good dog. They were the precursor to the American bulldog we have today. They could do just about any job on the homestead, including tracking and catching. A lot like heelers i guess, but less snappy. I have a heeler now who is MY dog. No others shall pass.... much less a kid. Lastly.... i don't know how eager I am to see pioneer families getting massacred, but.... i want to support his efforts to buck the mainstream. So my question is.... what's the best part to take a bathroom break? Because three hours, holy cats! Even if i didn't buy a drink and popcorn that's a long time to hold it lol 2 hour roads trips are my limit! Wish they would bring back intermission!
Trinity! We haven't watched thw movie yet and we don't have tv anymore for a couple years and prior to that watch Grit Tv and watch Costners Open Range and would watch over and over again. John waynes movies are also greatto watch between t COWBOYS and The Searchers. Movies that make us think and many westerns showing us what they're doing today such as bankers and bad cattlemen. I have not gone to a movie in over 20 years once I started seeing the hidden agendas each contained. I no longer considered them as entertainment. Instead it became obvious how they were being used to promote a particular point of view to influence and re-direct our culture through manipulation. That said, based upon your review I may have to see Horizon for myself. Thanks

The Horizon trailer caught my attention, but the two hour interview Costner gave on another channel sealed the deal. I watched it with my 13yr old son and we both enjoyed it, and discussed it afterwards. I've got episode two on my calendar.
I have actually saw Horizon three times. I loved it each and Everytime. Kevin Costner is genius. He is telling the story of how just how the true West . Horizon was refreshing, no politics,no LGBT shoved down our throats. This movie was spot on. The seasoned.actors and actresses were magnificent. Marigold was awesome. Hayes Costner Kevin's Son made his acting debute and rocked it.Can not wait for Horizon 2,3,4
I was raised on a ranch so great video and yes, Hollywood has been emasculating men for decades now. Costner has never really followed the Hollywood "values" (per se), it is not surprising that he made Horizon. I recommend revisiting his other film, Open Range. Open Range continues to be entertaining and thought provoking each time I watch it; I always see something new or have a deeper understanding of what Costner was getting at. Looking forward to seeing Horizon at some point. :)
yeah... he definitely over-sold it for the interviews. imo. but i won't spoil it for you. for me, it did not have enough panoramic vistas to distract me from the plot holes.

You spoke about how women were treated , and the struggles men in some cases had , takes me back to the saying about character, “your character is who you are when no one is looking “ seems that was what LL was implying in many of his books , and perhaps Costner is trying to do in Horizons

dude.... he iS Hollywood. I know, I know we're all desperate for something to give in hollywood. But this is just not it. Like, he's selling it to you guys as ''anti-establishment" but in reality he's very much establishment. And he's barely in this movie. And I'm pretty sure he forgot footage which should have been included for his own charater's story line!...the movie is super roughly edited. At some point Costner and co. were supposed to be camping and they're in a town camp instead. Character pop in out of nowhere too. Like... come on. The sad part is that it's lazy. Like, no one expects him to be super man. But watch the movie. Does it make sense? Bc if it doesn't, you forgot something. How stinking rich do you have to be to just forget footage in your own movie which you invested 100 million of your own money into?? O_O It's the same kind of lazy that Rings of Power was. None of these people have anything in common with any of us regular folks. He totally mislead in the interviews too. It would be great if we had ''strong female characters". We don't. We have steroetype hooker, sterotype widow gold-digger, stereotype airhead book-worm(??) who has all the bad stuff coming to her bc she's a selfish a$$hole apparently, sterotype old-tough-lady... the list goes on. The movie can't decide if it's a commedy or ''gritty" either. Random masacre > funny old lady chasing ppl around with her umbrella > scalping en masse > cute dating scene with shy army captain. It's about as authentic as kids playing cowboys and indians. Did I miss something? Did your super highly educated grandmothers take their books and artsy husbands to the front and flash the entire camp at night? Bc that's a pretty wierd series of events to include in a ''classic western". She's practically making out with the washcloth. What's realistic about that? And since when were artist bookworms ever on the frontier? Like, he's basically portraying the future r-scene like they kinda had it coming a wee bit.... Did everyone sleep through this? Come on! No one could even READ in those times! In general, not just on the frontier! Who on earth goes to the frontier to DRAW and READ?! That's just some type of very oddly specific millenial dig with the artsy couple who just want to have their tourist moment with the ''magnificent" natives. Only to have bad things happen to them bc of course they would. They're ''upper class" and clueless selfish a$$holes. Plus, all the characters have like 5-10 min of screen time. I have no clue what their names are even... The ''tough living" is exemplified via rough soap, and a lot of supposed trauma everyone recovers from in like 2 minutes bc we only have 3 minutes of screen time left.... that's it. Most of the stuff he talks about in the interviews is not actually IN the movie. it would be great if it was...........but it's not.

Saw this last night with my wife & adult son-very well done and will see the next installments. One thought for your review video-use a tripod-the handheld looks odd. and forget the side angle shot; the back and forth views of you is kinda distracting. Your review was spot on with lots of good points.

I’ve been watching your content for the last several days and I’m pretty interested in how things were done in the past and how things work in our future,, I grew up in the old school way of life and living,, how to work hard for what a family needed and how to keep it going as far as caring for the environment and animals and the farming of the land to survive,, it’s very interesting to me how much harder it is to get back to that beautiful life of the past and to keep bringing it to the future for our family to benefit from the hard work and loving family like we used to
Two criticisms of Horizon: first, like Dances With Wolves, the Henry rifle is unloaded (cartridge follower is all the way to the receiver); second is the term "indigenous" rather than the period term or pejorative.
Many inacurracies ...the First Henry rifles build 1862 and the ammunition was Not found in the far west ...and all the clothes and the Colts early and later 1870s ...

Costner is a man of courage and integrity. Oh, and yes, I hated Yellowstone. In fact, I only watched a couple of episodes and knew from the get-go it was nothing but horse shit.
Loved this video and had mostly the same thoughts I understand now why some people don’t like Yellowstone but to be honest it made me fall in love with the Cowboy way of life and introduce me to the real takes on Horsemen and Cowboys so for that I am grateful.
I really enjoyed it….nice to enjoy some engaging story telling in a beautiful setting….have to admit I’m biased I grew up loving westerns but this is a really timeless story that I think will stand up over time and is an important work….. truly relished watching something without an agenda
Loved the movie, and the authenticity is so dsmn nice for a change. He did a fantastic job in telling a story as close to how it would have happened back then. It's so raw but poetic. I could go on and on. Can't wait for the other parts. I was at the movies day one to see it. I don't go to movies. So that says a lot.

I didn't understand why the Mexican was shot (in the back?) in the Indian village raid near the end. Any explainations? I'm notorious for falling asleep in movies and I didn't doze off a single time.
The leader of that group of cowboys shot him because it was his horse that got loose and was noticed by the indians. If he would have tied his horse up properly, they would have backed away and not killed any of those Apaches. The horse getting loose forced that interaction.

@@LifeintheWest I was in a small NYC theater on the 4th of July and there was a small group who watched it. I thought it was a perfectly good film to watch on Independence Day. I believe the second chapter will make some more money because this first film was a teaser for people to get reeled in for the second film. Costner is banking on Yellowstone fan base to show up at some point.
I saw Yellowstone twice within four days in order to really understand the characters, their motivations and the varied plot lines. Looking forward to see how they intertwine and what happens to these different people. Costner is a great storyteller and actor. The scenery and cinematography are magnificent and his dialogue is clean and neat. There was no unnecessary violence or gratuitous sex. I felt that I got a good picture of what life was like at that time - out West it was hard and often awful. I'm so looking forward to the next chapters.

My wife was uneasy about the massacre scene, where those seeking vengeance caught up to native encampment....however, I'm afraid that behavior like that did take place and it should not be forgotten. Along with not forgetting, in the scene where a couple Cavalry officers refer to the native people as 'indigenous' or 'aboriginals', I wonder if that was common vernacular in that time....in other words, I found that 'slightly' disingenuous'.....but I'm picking fly dung from pepper here 😁
I too was concerned Horizon would be like Yellowstone and was hesitant. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and am confused about the low scores and neg reviews. I feel like I could've watched both Horizon 1 & 2 in the same sitting. Best film I have seen since Covid and hopefully the start of more historically accurate (or somewhat) westerns to come. My wife and I loved Horizon and are very much looking forward to part 2 in August. I thought it was a great setup for an epic western telling a real story of the west. I am also a fan of Yellowstone, understanding that it is very unrealistic and basically an east coast mobster show set in the west. I wasn't watching it for a real cowboy experience, it was just entertaining. I am a combat veteran that can also watch military movies to be entertained without being over critical because everything wasn't exactly accurate. Two things I will always watch, a western or baseball movie with Kevin Costner!!!

After that I would watch certain movies at home on DVD, but I saw the handwriting on the wall as Hollywood became stranger every year. Which is why I recently purchased about fifteen Douglas Fairbanks Jr movies from the 1930s!! There's no confusion about his masculinity or appeal to women (like me lol), no weird social messaging, none of the agendas like we see today. I totally agree with your comments about Horizon. You and I saw the same Part 1 movie. The beauty of the west was shown so well. I grew up in western Kansas, lived in southwestern Wyoming (Jackson Hole) and now in Arizona, 50 miles from the Grand Canyon. I thought to myself-many people from back east have no idea what the west really looks like-it’s harsh beauty. We, living out here can too easily take the beauty of west for granted. This movie reminds us to keep looking at the plains, the mountains, and the skies! I look forward to Part 2 Horizon. Thanks for your “in depth” review.
I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and spent a good deal of my life on the East Coast in 4 locations. My life has taken me all over this country and overseas to a certain extent. In the last 2 1/2 years I have been traveling the West, house and creature sitting. This exploration has given me a newfound appreciation for the diversity of landscapes of our country and for the people who inhabit them. The American West is so very special and I am quite in love with it. There is no way that I could return to the East to live.

Spot on, Trinity! I loved Horizon! It is well adapted and shows many facets of the West at that time as you pointed out. Costner didn’t care if he was meeting Hollywood’s norms, or would get rave reviews or not or break bank in profits opening weekend. That wasn’t important to him. It was important to tell a story as true to the time, people and place as it could be told in the most authentic way. That was his concept and I believe he achieved it. I loved it. It was refreshing to have a filmmaker stay true to his project and not to Hollywood or some other agenda!

love this video! I am 75 years old yes (old) feel all 75 years. If I was born in that era I would probably be a Annie Oakly. But I loved the strong men and women that took care of their children. They did what they needed to do to survive. They didn't put their hand to the government to support them. Of course you still had the greedy and the bad guys. Plus the dogs even had a purpose and jobs. I think it is called pride in ones self. I watch these mothers now days on Welfare. Go get their nails and botox on pay day of their check. The children are out of food by the 15th. Welfare is ok for a hand up. Not a life style. The subject is to detailed to get into.
Yes. I see the purpose for welfare, as I do for many laws and programs. The problem is that they are abused so much that they no longer serve the purpose they were created for.

We've learned over the years living in the rural outskirts of Tucson that it is best to leave wildlife to their means of survival without trying to "help" them. Besides setting out water in the worst heat of the summer, we just observe and let them fend for themselves. We've learned not to judge animal behavior using human standards of morals and ethics, and we've learned a great deal from simply observing them and not interfering. We've learned that on their own they're incredibly well adapted, resourceful and resilient, and the less wary and more numerous of them become prey. Sometimes it's a matter good luck and bad luck. We incorporate these lessons in our own lives. We don't expect anyone to come to our rescue. We're also truly on our own, and act like it. We're going to watch this movie and I am confident we'll relate to it.

59-year-old disabled veteran here. I feel my years on me, too, but I see the scars as lessons learned. I can’t imagine my life without them, and I wouldn’t want to, either. My son is 27 years old and challenged with autism. I raised him on my own, with very little help, so I kept us close to the city, so that I could have access to various facilities for him, like the Y, for instance. It paid off, too. He was a member of a BSA group that specialized in western acting, and he was gifted with three very strong men of integrity as mentors, to whom he is still connected with today. He wants to learn survival skills and be a veterinarian technician. His autistic challenges have slowed him down a bit, but he’s determined to meet his goals and live his life to the fullest, and he’s not seeking handouts, but he does take the occasional hand-up. I couldn’t ask for better son.

The movie Horizon kept my attention throughout. Episode 1 sets the stage for the 3 episodes to follow. I’ve marked my calendar to watch for episode 2 to be released mid August.

I just did not have it in me to watch another movie where I need to ignore the plot bc the main draw is the setting! Like I love the landscapes but hate the characters so I constantly need to almost edit the movie on the go. Dunno if anyone else does that, but that was Yellowstone for me. the newer spin off series were a bit better...but still. It was hard. LOOOL!

We should all go see this, in part to support this type of film making,. But also because this movie is important to preserve a part of American history that many dont want to be taught. Im glad people are making these movies. Costner, Eastwood, and Mel Gibson have all made some great content.
I haven't seen Horizon yet, but I will for sure. Hopefully I'll have a new favorite western. I'm still hooked on Lonesome Dove and Monte Walsh ( Tom Selleck ) version after all these year's.

As someone who loves quality Westerns that are willing to show the true story warts and all this is such a breathe of fresh air. Movies like the Searchers, Conagher, Bury my heart at Wounded Knee, and Hostiles all tell complex stories with flawed characters who try to live their lives in difficult times that require difficult choices. I have been a Costner fan since Dances with Wolves and that was reaffirmed with Open Range. I have been a Yellowstone fan but I totally agree the creud language, nudity, and the over the top violence were unnecessary and I could have done without it. I just wish that Horizon was completed so it could be watched start to finish.
I absolutely agree 100% with everything you said in this video. I loved the movie and it didn’t feel like 3 hours. Costner’s character was great but so were all the other characters. Lots of incredible actors. Very excited for Part Two.

A few things stood out
One was Costner wanting to make this particular movie for decades. I think Yellowstone was just a means to an end.
I always liked him just for the respect he showed the author and story of Dances with Wolves. Love it or hate it, he actually made a movie that was faithful to the book.
He has an eye for detail.
Other thing was the story you told about your ancestors leaving the baby under a tree, guarded by the dog... my grandparents did that to me 🤣 my granny used to love telling the story about leaving me on a pallet while she and pappa worked in their garden. Their old white English bulldog, Lady, would stay with me the whole time. If i tried to crawl off the blanket, Lady would get up and lay down in front of me.
She was a good dog. They were the precursor to the American bulldog we have today. They could do just about any job on the homestead, including tracking and catching. A lot like heelers i guess, but less snappy. I have a heeler now who is MY dog. No others shall pass.... much less a kid.
Lastly.... i don't know how eager I am to see pioneer families getting massacred, but.... i want to support his efforts to buck the mainstream. So my question is.... what's the best part to take a bathroom break? Because three hours, holy cats! Even if i didn't buy a drink and popcorn that's a long time to hold it lol 2 hour roads trips are my limit! Wish they would bring back intermission!

I have not gone to a movie in over 20 years once I started seeing the hidden agendas each contained. I no longer considered them as entertainment. Instead it became obvious how they were being used to promote a particular point of view to influence and re-direct our culture through manipulation.

The Horizon trailer caught my attention, but the two hour interview Costner gave on another channel sealed the deal. I watched it with my 13yr old son and we both enjoyed it, and discussed it afterwards. I've got episode two on my calendar.
I have actually saw Horizon three times. I loved it each and Everytime. Kevin Costner is genius. He is telling the story of how just how the true West . Horizon was refreshing, no politics,no LGBT shoved down our throats. This movie was spot on. The seasoned.actors and actresses were magnificent. Marigold was awesome. Hayes Costner Kevin's Son made his acting debute and rocked it.Can not wait for Horizon 2,3,4
I was raised on a ranch so great video and yes, Hollywood has been emasculating men for decades now. Costner has never really followed the Hollywood "values" (per se), it is not surprising that he made Horizon. I recommend revisiting his other film, Open Range. Open Range continues to be entertaining and thought provoking each time I watch it; I always see something new or have a deeper understanding of what Costner was getting at. Looking forward to seeing Horizon at some point. :)
yeah... he definitely over-sold it for the interviews. imo. but i won't spoil it for you. for me, it did not have enough panoramic vistas to distract me from the plot holes.

dude.... he iS Hollywood. I know, I know we're all desperate for something to give in hollywood. But this is just not it. Like, he's selling it to you guys as ''anti-establishment" but in reality he's very much establishment. And he's barely in this movie. And I'm pretty sure he forgot footage which should have been included for his own charater's story line!...the movie is super roughly edited. At some point Costner and co. were supposed to be camping and they're in a town camp instead. Character pop in out of nowhere too. Like... come on. The sad part is that it's lazy. Like, no one expects him to be super man. But watch the movie. Does it make sense? Bc if it doesn't, you forgot something. How stinking rich do you have to be to just forget footage in your own movie which you invested 100 million of your own money into?? O_O It's the same kind of lazy that Rings of Power was. None of these people have anything in common with any of us regular folks.
He totally mislead in the interviews too. It would be great if we had ''strong female characters". We don't. We have steroetype hooker, sterotype widow gold-digger, stereotype airhead book-worm(??) who has all the bad stuff coming to her bc she's a selfish a$$hole apparently, sterotype old-tough-lady... the list goes on.
The movie can't decide if it's a commedy or ''gritty" either. Random masacre > funny old lady chasing ppl around with her umbrella > scalping en masse > cute dating scene with shy army captain. It's about as authentic as kids playing cowboys and indians.
Did I miss something? Did your super highly educated grandmothers take their books and artsy husbands to the front and flash the entire camp at night? Bc that's a pretty wierd series of events to include in a ''classic western". She's practically making out with the washcloth. What's realistic about that?
And since when were artist bookworms ever on the frontier? Like, he's basically portraying the future r-scene like they kinda had it coming a wee bit.... Did everyone sleep through this? Come on! No one could even READ in those times! In general, not just on the frontier! Who on earth goes to the frontier to DRAW and READ?! That's just some type of very oddly specific millenial dig with the artsy couple who just want to have their tourist moment with the ''magnificent" natives. Only to have bad things happen to them bc of course they would. They're ''upper class" and clueless selfish a$$holes.
Plus, all the characters have like 5-10 min of screen time. I have no clue what their names are even... The ''tough living" is exemplified via rough soap, and a lot of supposed trauma everyone recovers from in like 2 minutes bc we only have 3 minutes of screen time left.... that's it.
Most of the stuff he talks about in the interviews is not actually IN the movie. it would be great if it was...........but it's not.

I’ve been watching your content for the last several days and I’m pretty interested in how things were done in the past and how things work in our future,, I grew up in the old school way of life and living,, how to work hard for what a family needed and how to keep it going as far as caring for the environment and animals and the farming of the land to survive,, it’s very interesting to me how much harder it is to get back to that beautiful life of the past and to keep bringing it to the future for our family to benefit from the hard work and loving family like we used to
Two criticisms of Horizon: first, like Dances With Wolves, the Henry rifle is unloaded (cartridge follower is all the way to the receiver); second is the term "indigenous" rather than the period term or pejorative.
Many inacurracies ...the First Henry rifles build 1862 and the ammunition was Not found in the far west ...and all the clothes and the Colts early and later 1870s ...

Loved this video and had mostly the same thoughts I understand now why some people don’t like Yellowstone but to be honest it made me fall in love with the Cowboy way of life and introduce me to the real takes on Horsemen and Cowboys so for that I am grateful.

Loved the movie, and the authenticity is so dsmn nice for a change. He did a fantastic job in telling a story as close to how it would have happened back then. It's so raw but poetic. I didn't understand why the Mexican was shot (in the back?) in the Indian village raid near the end. Any explainations?
I'm notorious for falling asleep in movies and I didn't doze off a single time.
The leader of that group of cowboys shot him because it was his horse that got loose and was noticed by the indians. If he would have tied his horse up properly, they would have backed away and not killed any of those Apaches. The horse getting loose forced that interaction.

I am not sure that very many people agree with me on this. I was literally the only person in the theater. Which is not good.

@@LifeintheWest I was in a small NYC theater on the 4th of July and there was a small group who watched it. I thought it was a perfectly good film to watch on Independence Day. I believe the second chapter will make some more money because this first film was a teaser for people to get reeled in for the second film. Costner is banking on Yellowstone fan base to show up at some point.
I saw Yellowstone twice within four days in order to really understand the characters, their motivations and the varied plot lines. Looking forward to see how they intertwine and what happens to these different people. Costner is a great storyteller and actor. The scenery and cinematography are magnificent and his dialogue is clean and neat. There was no unnecessary violence or gratuitous sex. I felt that I got a good picture of what life was like at that time - out West it was hard and often awful. I'm so looking forward to the next chapters.

We saw it last weekend, I liked it and look forward to the next part. My wife was uneasy about the massacre scene, where those seeking vengeance caught up to native encampment....however, I'm afraid that behavior like that did take place and it should not be forgotten. Along with not forgetting, in the scene where a couple Cavalry officers refer to the native people as 'indigenous' or 'aboriginals', I wonder if that was common vernacular in that time....in other words, I found that 'slightly' disingenuous'.....but I'm picking fly dung from pepper here 😁
I too was concerned Horizon would be like Yellowstone and was hesitant. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and am confused about the low scores and neg reviews. I feel like I could've watched both Horizon 1 & 2 in the same sitting. Best film I have seen since Covid and hopefully the start of more historically accurate (or somewhat) westerns to come. Glad I found your channel. Just subscribed!

My wife and I loved Horizon and are very much looking forward to part 2 in August. I thought it was a great setup for an epic western telling a real story of the west. I am also a fan of Yellowstone, understanding that it is very unrealistic and basically an east coast mobster show set in the west. I wasn't watching it for a real cowboy experience, it was just entertaining. I am a combat veteran that can also watch military movies to be entertained without being over critical because everything wasn't exactly accurate. Two things I will always watch, a western or baseball movie with Kevin Costner!!!

Thanks for the review. Now I will give the movie a chance. I had written it off as Costner has never made a convincing cowboy, though his role as a goof in Silverado seemed to fit him. Sounds like a thinking man's historicly based movie and that has me much more curious.
❤🎉 I stopped your video at about three minutes to say how spot on you are about woke Hollywood. It's so ridiculous!! I can't remember the last time I was in a movie theater -- maybe thirty years ago? After that I would watch certain movies at home on DVD, but I saw the handwriting on the wall as Hollywood became stranger every year. Which is why I recently purchased about fifteen Douglas Fairbanks Jr movies from the 1930s!! There's no confusion about his masculinity or appeal to women (like me lol), no weird social messaging, none of the agendas like we see today. I can truly say his movies from the 1930s are refreshing and unique compared to the modern junk!! Men were men and women were women period. Ok sorry for my rant now back to your video.
