SMU’s schedule currently ranks 40th in country. Big Ten leader Indiana’s ranks 56th. Indiana has not beaten a ranked opponent, in spite of playing in the B10. Indiana has Ohio State and Purdue left. Buckeyes are the only ranked team on Indiana’s schedule. Louisville was ranked when SMU beat them, so was Pitt.

Tech plays, on average, 5 games against ranked opponents every season. It's easy to have a great record when you never play against tough opponents, but an 'average' record against the best teams in the nation is better than great stats against smaller programs. Indiana is the easiest example; they're record shows them as the best team in the Big 10, and the 8th best team in the country, but they haven't even played against a ranked opponent. We'll see how good they are when they play against their first ranked opponent in two weeks!

Injuries/sit outs affected them heavily in that game, and Tech has had numerous key players miss due to injury over the last six weeks. When healthy, they’re much better than what their record shows. Come on man, you have to make those. A starting kicker on any team should never miss an extra point kick. That's another point that didn't make it up on the board. If Miami got those missed opportunity points, they win the game. Going for it, is definitely on the coaches.
If they kick those field goals, and kick a PAT instead of going for two and not converting, they’d have 30 points. If Tech was down 30-28, then they wouldn’t have intentionally went down inside the 5 with 1 minute left on the clock. So even with your hypotheticals, they hypothetically would’ve still lost 35-30.

If those opportunities weren't wasted and points got onto the board, the waves of the game would have been different than they were. This coach has to coach better.
