The IDF are one hell of an efficient fighting force. Their equipment is selected to match their prowess. The Merkava may not be as good as the Abraham or Challenger in all aspects but it fits well with Israeli doctrine and tactics. They are masters of the unexpected. Who else would combine a MBT with a APC?
In 2014 they proved themselves in combat and that the trophy system is a great defence against RPG and ATGM. It also has a great suite of rounds now including the lahat guided round.
+Adecodoo No MBT is invincible. They were drawn into an ambush by Iranian Revolutionary Guard units, working with Hezbollah. Lesson learned. Something tells me that it will be different next time.
+Adecodoo Ah 2014 was real combat except this time they have the trophy system which has given them the edge over the ATGM Kornet and RPG 29 which wrecked them in 2006 but in 2014 not one Merkava IV tank was destroyed. The trophy system destroyed all ATGM and RPG's fired at it..
@Adecodoo in 2014 there was operation protective edge, which there were no tanks critically hit thanks to Refael's trophy aps system. The mark IVs were exposed to RPG fire and other anti tank missiles, though I'm not sure it has proven itself effective against the legendary kornet.
@Adecodoo Operation protective edge was fought against hamas, which may not possess the capabilities of Hezbollah but still was a threat for the Israeli civilians living near gaza. The second Lebanon war was a draw, slightly to our disadvantage. We might have failed to complete our goals but we still got more than 500 of these sewage rats.

Is that really true? and what about the new T-14 that the Russians are making is that not a more protected tank then the challenger 2. I know that the t-14 has the dual-reactive armour that has a protection between 1,000-1,100 mm vs APFSDS and 1,200-1,400 mm vs HEAT which is more then enough to stop normal atgms like TOW, javillien, hellfire and even the HJ- 8 missiles. Even am I not gonna stop there, but the Russians said that they would put the new ERA on the T-14 armata. Yep the Relikt ERA it is said to be doubling the protection against shaped charges (HEAT and other rounds) and increasing the protection from an anti-tank guided missiles by 50 percent. Relikt reduces penetration of APFSDS rounds by over 50 percent. Is that not enough to make it a better tank then the challenger 2 like wtf? ps: I just did this, because I would like to start a debate and a discussion. which i love :) and the t.14 uses the afghanit armor protetetion right now
I know it's a bit late, but the T-14 has an unmanned turret that, in most cases will be much less well armoured than for example the challengers or the Abrams. Then again, AP won't do much to an unmanned turret except from a lucky shot to the gun. However this is all speculation as everything on the t-14 is secret.
+BSearch The same argument during the cold war in the early 70's about the T72 tank and how it was better. The west confused the T64 with the T72 and it was a boggie man tank. It wasn't until the 1982 invasion of Lebanon that a Merkava 1 with a 105mm L7 tank gun destroyed a T72 where as the Isreali general said it burns just like other tanks. So the T14 so far has just been a properganda tool just like the T72 was but for now a lot is a secret about the tank so how can you compare. It broke down in a practice run last year for the May day parade which in the end comes down to bad training the driver wasn't instructed properly something about the hand break the Russians say. In the end its all about the training and a tank is only as good as its crews the west when it comes to training has the upper hand there.
