As much as I love compound bows, you cannot argue with that rate of fire.
Compound bow is usless once it breaks
Good luck fixing it
@@marcellusbrutus3346 I hate to break it to you but...
@@marcellusbrutus3346 wait im confused. thats same for laminated, fibreglass or firearms.
@@marcellusbrutus3346 to be fair, that's pretty much every bow...
Firearms for person to person conflict, but if you're needing a weapon for hunting food after you run out of canned beans a bow could be a good way to conserve your ammo since it's not being made anymore
My go to is a flintlock. Black powder isn't the hardest thing to make, you can get a stockpile of flint rn for a decent price, and for ammo all you need is some lead. Wheel weights are made of lead and it can be melted and formed into balls with a cast and a campfire. For your patch you just need cotton, and there would most likely be some ruined clothes that are 100% cotton you could use for a patch in apocalyptic times.
@@strat3265 this, the issue with modern guns as long term weapons is primers are hard to find, and harder to make. flintlock weapons tho, anybody with a basic understanding of firearms and metalwork can make one. and in an apocalpse, you have plenty of time to learn
and if you wanna get fancy, you can learn how to make percussion caps. they can be made by hand unlike primers and open the door for black npowder revolvers
Also more silent than any suppresor available
@@strat3265 ooh making quality smokeless gunpowder? Or like the smokey stuff from way back?
@@Jesse_IDG what he’s describing is almost certainly garbage black powder
(not insulting him I bet he could make it better then I and it’s good enough but it’s still garbage compared to smokeless)
You might run out of ammunition for your guns or arrows for your bow, but your cuteness is always fully loaded.
A lot easier to make arrows then ammo. Lots of wood, steel and feathers out there, bullets powder, primers and brass is a very limited supply, if no one is manufacturing it.
@@Bhartrampf brass isn’t to big an issue just make sure to pick it up (or if your using a revolver even better it carry’s it for you )
The gunpowder isn’t to hard either
But like you mention the primers OOOH that’s a tough one
But ingenuity and crafty ness is something humans are known for
@@whyareusobad3528 brass has a case life, I have reloaded for over 40 years, I even have the components to reload primers. The thing is eventually you will run out even if you have a thousand cases for your rifle or pistol, you can normally only reload them around 10 times each, a lot of times less, bed you get case splits and head separation. If running black powder, then corrosion will shorten case life. A flintlock will run the longest, as you could make powder if you could find it make the components. Smokeless powder will be as limited as primers and even less compatible across different calibers then primers. For instance, large rifle, magnum and standard large pistol can all be used in a 45 Colt pistol or rifle and 45-70, but W296 can not be used in a 45-70. Unique can be used in both though. What I am getting at, if Armageddon happens, eventually most people will go back to the bow and black powder. A few chemist may make smokeless or semi smokeless and maybe even certain priming compounds, but I doubt it as the trade routes will not exist. You may have enough for your lifetime, but your children or grandchildren will go backwards, before we go forward again. And who knows, we as humans may even go a different route and in 2000 years they will dig up our guns and will try to figure out what the hell it is.
@@Bhartrampf fair
I have very little experience reloading but know a lot of the book stuff about it
I understand you can’t use certain powders in certain rounds and primers and whatnot
But in a apocalyptic scenario I don’t think using a slower burning powder would be to dangerous (if you use a faster burning one that could cause a problem)
Also I must be doing something wrong because all the brass I use gets messed up after my 3-4th reload lol
Also 45-70 would be the only normal round you could still reload for in the apocalypse lmao
45 cal 70 grains of good ol black powder
As long as you got the primer plans down that cartridge is perfect for anything apocalypse related IMO
Hahahaha 🤣🤣

But guns aren't exactly legal in Murica... and if they are, you still need alot of paperwork and stuff just to own one. A bow however...
guns are legal everywhere in the USA and dont require nearly as much paperwork as you might imagine.
And once again, as he says, here in North America, guns are so prevalent that anyone with a bow is gonna get wiped in the first fight.
Bows are for hunting. Period. End of story. Even a muzzleloader is better than a bow, and can be delivered to your door no paperwork.

A bow makes an awesome ambush tool also.
Again, ammo is finite. We've been making arrows since pre-history.
You can also use arrows as a melee weapon if you need to
@@tehlolercaust Get an Air Rifle. Still lethal and the ammo is easily castable or findable in ball bearings in machines no one can use cause fuel isnt a thing in the apocalypse. Gasoline wont be continuously being made and the stock that's there will only remain usable for maybe 2 years if you're lucky.
@@tehlolercaust Ammo is finite but there are a lot more bullets than humans and you can't outshoot a gun with bow.
I feel like it also could be used in a situation where you don't want somebody to hear a gunshot.
Unless you are so incredible that you can hit the voice box every single time, you aren’t going to pull off FarCry shenanigans. Spoiler, nobody’s that good. You probably won’t instantly kill somebody with a single arrow, either. They might die from bleeding out soon after, but the impact of an arrow is not usually enough to kill a man outright. You shoot a guy with an arrow, he’s going to scream, now everyone in the vicinity knows you’re there. They even have a literal arrow pointing in your direction since the fletching will be pointed at your location. An arrow is also slow enough to be tracked by the human eye, meaning your second shot is certainly going to give away your position if the first one didn’t. In the time it took you to hit one target, draw, and fire again, the enemy has had time to call for reinforcements, assess the situation, and determine your location through deduction or by seeing your arrow traveling on the second shot.
The “silence” of bows is greatly overrated by video games and Hollywood. Whether you have a gun or a bow, you only have a short amount of time to do things before the enemies in your area figure out your general location. The only sounds you should worry about are sounds that can be heard by larger groups of enemies that you are trying to avoid while you engage the smaller local group. If you ambushed a group of people with a modern rifle, you could incapacitate several people before they knew where you were, and you can do so at a much longer range. If you have a suppressor, you can kill your flash signature and make it even harder to find you even though they’ll still hear shots. You can also fire on the move, making retreats and relocations easier and safer for you without sacrificing lethality. If you’re a good shot and hopefully have someone else with you, you can dispatch that small group, get your Intel, ammo, or tech that you need, and move on before you are noticed. Speed matters a lot more in that scenario than staying sub-sonic levels of quiet. There is also sub-sonic ammo for guns, so a bow isn’t even necessary for that in every case.
@@kolbywilliams7234 actually, if you shoot someone with an arrow in the chest, it's highly likely to cause a pneumothorax. The person would be struggling to breathe so much that speaking or yelling or making any other noise than trying to take in a breath would be nearly impossible.
@@opietaylr
They’re still going to thrash around, which can be quite loud. They might even discharge their weapon, which defeats the purpose of using a bow in the first place. It’s also not guaranteed that would happen depending on the type of clothing, armor, angle of the shot, etc. Besides that, a collapsed lung is not necessarily an incapacitating injury. People have survived, and even fought, with only one functioning lung due to an injury. Will they die if it is not treated? Probably, but it is not a guarantee that they are out of the fight, or unable to respond.
Too many maybe’s to be worth trying if you have access to decent firearms. Speed, lethality, and the element of surprise matter much more than being absolutely silent because it is nearly impossible to do so. Bows have their place, but in the context of modern warfare and recce scenarios, guns reign supreme.
@@kolbywilliams7234 You know what? You're absolutely right! It's statistically unlikely that would ever happen, with what David is saying it might be possible as HistoricalArchery does say in this video that it could be fatal even with body armor, so the question is how many shots can you hit? And how many hit vital areas are you likely to hit? If they are indeed wearing some sort of armor it would make it significantly harder to silence them instantly. Most people are garbage at using a bow (Except for me because actually practice quite a few weapons/martial arts styles including archery and even then, hitting a moving target with an arrow is insanely difficult for me.) Meanwhile, subsonic gun ammo would be perfect for that sort of thing. The only thing I think is a glaring flaw with using that sort of thing is that subsonic ammo is insanely expensive and less manufactured. I think it best to just use a pistol with a silencer instead if you want to be quiet and cost-efficient during an apocalypse.
@@Caspin_1
Subsonic ammo is almost exclusively shot with suppressors. You don’t normally fire subsonic ammo without one because the explosion of the bullet is still loud and defeats the purpose of using subsonic ammo. It’s the only way to actually shoot silently. Even if you had a suppressor that managed to make the gunshot virtually silent, normal bullets break the sound barrier and you will always get a loud crack because of it. Suppressors are still quite loud. Hammer a nail into a two by four and you’ll understand how loud a suppressor typically is. They are used to hide the flash more than anything. If we are in an apocalypse, people will be using hand made cans. Those won’t do much for sound suppression.
I hate to admit it, I'd be that 1 guy with a bow and arrow in the apocalypse. Love this video.
i got 200 arrows (150 spine) for my 100 lb bows. im not gonna waste it when the time comes lol
A gun will out perform a bow any day, but for me to re use bullets I have to have powder, primers, and I have to cast new projectiles, then assemble them at my press. Arrows can just be pulled out and used again most of the time.
@@grahamlopez3742 have both! Hunt with bows, fight with guns. When Ammo runs out, you still have bows. (You probably wouldn’t make it past 2-3 gunfights so ammo isn’t that big a concern lol)

Ooor you use the mindset that stealth would be your best friend when it comes to bow use.
these techniques can still be done stealthly, as long as you take your time. meanwhile, it has the option for burstfire if needed unlike conventional techniques
A bow is only as quiet as whatever you hit with it. Unless you are hitting their voice box every single time (not realistically possible), a person is going to scream because an arrow doesn’t normally have the velocity to just kill a full grown man outright. Screams are really loud. You’ve alerted everyone in your vicinity to your presence and arrows are slow enough to be tracked with the naked eye. Your second shot is going to be seen by someone and they will have your position. Not to mention the fletching/shaft of your arrows will always point towards your general location, giving a visual clue to your location with every shot.
With a modern semiautomatic rifle, you could incapacitate 3 or 4 guys before they even knew where the shots were coming from. The added benefit of killing your flash signature with a suppresser makes it almost impossible to determine your location by sight in certain conditions, meaning they are relying solely on sound. A rifle is also capable of reaching targets from longer distances, making hiding and avoiding detection easier while being a more difficult target should it turn into a gunfight. The bows “silence” is almost always highly overrated because of video games and movies.
Stealth is key. Darkness is your friend.

A wise yet troubled man once said "Guns make killing too easy"
In my opinion they do have their use in an apocalyptic situation. Guns are extremely effective yet loud. Not to mention basically everyone will be trying to get them and ammunition for it so it's only a matter of time before there is no more ammo or you become a walking target for those low on ammo. Bows are quite and can be just as lethal if you're precise. They are relatively easy to obtain or make and so are arrows. But lots skill is required to use them even a tiny but unlike guns and you need the strength to even pull it back. What I would suggest is carrying a bow, and a pistol with a decent magazine size or one that takes a variety of ammo types. For silent takedowns and hunting use the bow to conserve ammo and for emergencies and situations where the threat is already alert use the pistol. Also try and use a variety of arrows and items that pair with them well.
Ur screwed using a bow against a gun. But im glad you wrote desperate survival

A lot of people see "bow vs gun" and think of two people facing off.
But real situations provide more nuance. As always, METT TC dictates.
But arrows can get through sandbags. They can get through armor rated for pistols. They're quiet. The right broadhead can disrupt a massive amount of tissue.
All things to weigh, but yeah. If you can have both, have both.
Arrows would lose so much velocity through a normal sand bag it would only be lethal / debilitating if it was close range and a face/headshot or a perfect heart shot
Not to mention combine this with the velocity lost by the distance your shooting with it and what not
Realistically I like to think no matter how prepared you me or jimmy bob is were probably all going to get shot by a 17 year old with his dads scoped AR sitting on the bed of a truck from 200 yards away
Arrows aren't magic. Stop being dumb. Defeating armor is about cross-section and velocity. Going fast and moving as little material as possible. Riffle rounds are going to out perform in both regards. Cope more.
@@DelightfulTyrant you don’t need to defeat armor as long as whatever behind its rib cage gets pushed through it’s back

Yeah lots of factors. A man with a bolt action versus three archers is very different than a ar15 vs a compound bow archer
Hi, if I were in an apocalyptic scenario - I'd cooperate with my neighbors and the people of my town to help support each other instead of getting shunned for being a paranoid weirdo with a gun.
You might want to be nice. But other people wouldn't feel the same way. You think there are allot of criminals now. Imagine how many more their would be when law and order falls and the prisons are no longer guarded. Humans are violent creatures
another point: once they run out, bullets require a bit of industry to produce -- you need a chemical process to make the NC for gunpowder, cut the grains to the right size (or risk blowing up the gun), etc. to say nothing of primer & casings.
biggest tools arrows need are a saw and hand plane. So a 'realistic' setting may have people saving bullets for when they're really needed... or just using muskets lol.

Smart content bro. This is needed. Keep it going.
Love the realism. None of us would be any good with a bow in a survival situation. Ive hunted my entire life and i couldnt even think to rapid fire like that. Shit takes skill and training almost no one has
Love how realistic and grounded this dude is. Not to mention all that skill
I like this. There so much tactical use in a bow. I figured the compound bow would be great depending on the situation but that simple bow frigging owns! Dude could clear a room with it.
That's a very good loading-firing rate for archery. AWESOME bro!!👍
Many countries you can have bows and can’t have guns, this is a good advice
You can still use the bow for hunting, that and guns can pollute the meat with lead, so it's better to use a cleaner weapon
Bro I dig it. Man was cranking off shots.
Plus after the ammunition runs low your original arrows and bow can still be used, repaired, and if needed completely remade. If you have the skill to build a new one after guns are not viable it is so important. Plus your eardrums will thank you
Possible tip, I find that belt quivers (hip mounted) are better when running around. You won't dump your arrows as much.
Tip from Aragorn, the ranger from Lotr; put a piece of cloth over your back quiver (sometimes it's called arrow sock). It stops your arrows from making noises and moving around. Plus, it protect's them against the elements!
It's like the Rex-kwon-do of bow fighting
So I am actually writing a grounded post-apocalyptic series and in one of the engagements he absolutely does shoot his first two shots using a bow but immediately drops it and draws his sidearm. It's nice to see other people that realize that having a crossbow or a bow will not be your end all be all because unless it's an ambush you will just lose.

Detection and concealment will server you best no matter your weapon, once your position is compromised, it doesn’t really matter what you if you have the shot.

The sound of it matters. If you don’t need to give away your location 3+ miles out use bow/melee
Arrows don’t break the sound barrier creating a sonic boom that can be heard for miles around.
A sling can be just as deadly as a bow, sometimes more. Projectiles can be found anywhere.
There's one option he forgot. Find a good vantage for sniping and wait until someone with a gun walks by.

"so if I'm in an apocalyptic scenario..."
The funniest part is in all our preparation and readiness, like 85% of us are gonna die in the first 15 minutes of the apocalypse, if you haven't prepared yourself for that possibility you're not prepared at all lol

Russell from “Up” has come a long way.
Ey bro that idea with the arrows and bow in the same hand with good technique can be as good as any revolver if you have a powerful bow and faster than your first technique. If you're careful how you hold the arrows you can grab and draw with the same motion. Comanche archery is sick. I personally would use primarily the bow and pistol to save ammo, mostly still bow if I can get good enough at the bow and switching to the pistol or rifle. Great thing about bows and black powder is you can make that ammo relatively easily compared to finding ammo when its scarce.
exactly, i prefer 100% firearms if ammo is abundant, but its a different ballgame once ammo is scarce
I've definitely seen more than one dude who can keep up with semi auto guns using a bow tho. Super fast. Almost hard to believe. Could also shoot around corners with a bow, using something like a horse bow, or recurve I think

Let's not discount homemade black powder either tho, I dont see how someone dedicated enough could make the correct size mold for a black powder gun either, I suppose revolvers aren't optimal unless you trained to use them well but if I'm tryna conserve on my stockpile for my main guns, small fights and hunting might be better off using that exactly. Maybe. I guess I want a rifle for the hunting actually if that isnt just helpful to accuracy. Not actually sure
I will use this for my next apocalyptic scenario, thanks for the tip 👍
Very few people can shoot a traditional bow let alone speed shoot one, I think it’s safe to say having this skill would be op after ammo runs out.
Thanks mate ill keep this in mind
The boat comes in handy when you have to be quiet and predicaments and if necessary you have to leave quietly it is a perfect weapon because even though you have a gun and if you don't have a silencer on it you have to shoe and you got to run the hell out cuz you know how many people are coming after you beautiful demonstration with the bow and arrow with knowledge and wisdom is the key of survival good job my brother amen freedom 💜🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
makes sense ; better a bow than " no gun/ammo" for ranged offence/defense . realistically , it'd probably be used as a way to conserve bullets when hunting food and/or utility
