      All BEVs are fundamentally safer than hybrids or ICE, which is one good reason to switch as is lower operation costs making EVs the only choice for big mileage users such as taxis and delivery.

      "Do you think customers will reconsider and switch to brands like Tesla, given a diminished safety profile perception for brands like Toyota and Daihatsu?"
      They should at the least flock away from the mythical Japanese brand. If they do their homework a Tesla model is arguable the best EV to buy today.

A 4% hit on Toyota stock is mild considering what TSLA gets because Elon posts on X or made up headlines that are played on repeat for old stories that are sensationalized!

    Daihatsu cars are perfectly fine and safe. Just because you drive a vehicle with a 5 star safety rating it doesn't mean you're not going to be killed or seriously injured in an accident. Up to what speed do you think the body of even the safest rated vehicle will protect you so you walk away without a scratch? 60Km/h or 37mph maybe? When you get to 80Km/h or 50mph even the safest car isn't likely to save you in a collision from serious injury or even death.

    People who have money have always bought Volvos for their safety. Now that Tesla leads that, many have switched. But Daihatsus are on the low end of the price spectrum and people on a low budget have seldom thought of the safety angle when buying a car. What, exactly, are the rating changes? I didn't see that in the vid.

      Classic ignorance - refusal to look past the headlines!
      NHTSA extensively over a long time examined Tesla ADAS and found no fault with the system. It has been assessed by all the world's safety authorities and the insurance industry and received top scores. The data shows Autopilot is 9 times safer than other cars, and Tesla Model S was the first car to break the Safety Star system with 5.4 Stars.
      The NHTSA finding was that drivers are idiots and need more nagging to pay attention. That was the update!
      There is no recent US recall for build quality!

      Toyota is a criminal organization that rivals the Yakuza. Shafting its customers like no other, no moral compass or concern for even species survival.
      * Toyota is still no.1 among carmakers lobbying against ambitious climate and clean air laws, according to Influence Map. Only Exxon and Chevron spend more on anti EV propaganda and lobbying. * Recipient of the largest Federal fine in US ever against an auto company (35 times the maximum penalty that the NHTSA can levy on an automaker + civil penalties): "Toyota put sales over safety and profit over principle. The disregard Toyota had for the safety of the public was outrageous. Not only did Toyota fail to recall cars with problem parts, they continued to manufacture new cars with the same parts they knew were deadly.” George Venizelos, assistant director of the FBI. “Rather than promptly disclosing and correcting safety issues about which they were aware, Toyota made misleading public statements to consumers and gave inaccurate facts (lied!) to members of Congress. U.S. Atty. Gen. Eric Holder. Under blistering criticism, Toyota President Akio Toyoda personally and repeatedly apologized to Congress and promised to do better to cries of "Where is the remorse?" scolded Rep. Marcy Kaptur, "absolutely appalling", John Mica!
      * Toyota Motor FINED the largest civil penalty ever levied for a breach of federal emissions-reporting requirements for longstanding violations (30 years!) of the Clean Air Act. “Toyota shut its eyes to the noncompliance,” Audrey Strauss, acting U.S. attorney. According to a recent report from the Environmental Protection Agency, Toyota vehicles delivers the worst fuel efficiency in the industry. “It’s appalling that auto companies cheat on pollution rules but then want President Biden to negotiate with them about new clean car standards. After reneging on their previous commitments, why should anyone trust the automakers?” Dan Becker, director the Safe Climate Transport Campaign at the Center for Biological Diversity. Toyota response - “resulted in a negligible emissions impact, if any.” Eric Booth.
      * Hino Truck Toyota division has been indited for falsified emissions data: measuring values incorrectly, stopped durability tests prematurely or didn’t do them at all, changed ECU settings, “arbitrarily selected values” or otherwise altered test data and made false statements, dating back to vehicles released at the time of 2003 emissions regulations. “The Company’s inward-looking and conservative culture prevented each employee from carrying out his or her work with a sense of involvement and solidarity. Hino lacked awareness in and a mechanism for managing its business operations as a corporate organization, for which Hino believes its management bears responsibility. Hino will implement comprehensive measures to ensure that these issues will never recur in the future," Satoshi Ogiso, president.
      * Daihatsu, subsidiary of Toyota now joins the coverup scandals in Toyota, after it said in April it had rigged side-collision safety tests carried out for 88,000 small cars, most of those sold as Toyotas.
      * Following the same pattern - long term coverups and lying principally on safety and pollution issues Toyota engineers cannot fix, apologies on discovery and promises of reform, repeated rinse, repeated until resignations then leaderless oblivion.
      * Can't change a large corrupt organization.
