    How could I have gone 65 years without knowing this piece existed?

    By far the best version because of tone quality and balance! Go Vienna Horns!

      Now isn't that strange? I find the horns feeble, lacking full-throated force.

    I am reminded how the Vienna horn, at least as played here, is burnished yet with a dark core. Love it!
    And the tempo was so placed and steady. It exuded control and allowed all the little notes to be played with great fullness. So wonderfully done by all.

    Well done. You can tell how good the conductor is because the players are watching. Been there, didn't do that!

      Vermutlich Lechner (Bischofshofen, Österreich). Drehventiltrompeten mit zusätzlichen Überblasklappen (geben bei exponierten hohen Tönen mehr Sicherheit).

    Nice! But what are those weird looking sideways trumpet-like things called? And don't those French horns have some extra curves in the tube near the mouthpiece?

    • @NigelRamses
      @NigelRamses 2 года назад +1

      Good eyes. The trumpets here use rotary valves instead of the more common piston valves. The horns used in Vienna aren’t the sort you’d be likely to come across elsewhere in the world and are in fact called “Vienna Horns”. The coil near the mouthpiece is akin to crooks used on natural horns. You will also see that these horns have a different type of valve. Normally the horn uses a rotary valve like the kind you see on the trumpets here.

      @@NigelRamses Thanks! I used to be a (very) amateur trumpet player 40 years ago. I showed "promise", and my dad bought me a nice Bach trumpet, but I could never handle the high notes due to embouchure problems. I still envy those who can play in the high register consistently well and for long durations (like Maynard Ferguson, Maurice Andre and Sergei Nakariakov!). I could do neither and so got discouraged and abandoned my hobby. Still have the nice Bach though. Got it spruced up for $600 six years ago by a brass repair guy who expertly removed a bunch of dents and re-lacquered it.

      @@NigelRamses And most important: These horns are single F-horns.

    wow! not even one women preforming, i mean good for the representation with the conductor.. but.. still a lot to be desired in terms of equality.
