The pressing questions n being.... Is this a step forward or a step back in relation to the Anno series? I don't fancy buying something that has nothing to offer that I haven't seen before.
And it hopefully it will be a long-lived classic. I know it is too early to make a statement like that (still in early access and needs a little polish), but there is one point on my mind about this: this dev team are quite supportive of mods. I've played many, many more hours of Grim Dawn than I would have because I used mods. Out of the city builders, I still fire up Banished because of the mods that I use. Obviously, you need a solid base for mods, but I feel that it is mods that can add decades onto the life of a good game.
Ok, so the best game ever and a city builder is Pharaoh. It introduced "desirability" to me and that word was a fun challenge among others to understand as a kid. This game has desirability. Reminded me of that legend. I guess it's time to buy this game.
Looking good so far. The worst part about Anno for me was transferring items from island to ship then to another island then back to the ship then to another island... If this doesn't have the ship aspect it could be ideal (in my opinion).
Played 10hr now - a match for Banished, Forest Village & Ostriv - maybe better, time will tell. Need to be able to zoom out & tilt camera more though, feels claustrophobic as is. Pretty excited to find a good, new medieval town builder.
At this moment I'm looking for a game similar to this but with combat elements a bit like They Are Billions, but still gonna put this one on my Steam Wishlist in case I get into a phase where I just want to build and manage some shit again.
If you like City builders then I feel like you get your moneys worth with this as it is and there is a lot more to come, can't see this being abandoned tbh
Very few games put out a demo these days. And there is a set objective, it's called survive! Have no idea what you're talking about when you say low content? The different maps are created by a seed generator which completely changes everything for each game you play.
@@voodoojedizin4353 I am not interested in excuses, a lot of companies actually do demoes, if you didnt live under a rock maybe you would have heard of I don't know, steam demo fest but why check anything, its easier to post nonsense on youtube. There is no campaign, no missions, like TAB was at the beginning - pretty sure TAB was cheaper and then got more content, FF wont get more content, 1 or 2 building levels , bug fixes and done
The UI indeed needs a bit of QOL improvements. For example i spent a long 10 min trying to find which building made barrels; i had to check the online wiki for it. Likewise, there is no in game help or guide you can access from your game, or it's well hidden and i haven't found it. The "tutorials" don't seem to fire either, would have been nice to have one about the farms the first time you build one.
I've been waiting for a Banished follow-up type game for years. I hope this will be it. I've never played a Steam early access game and I hadn't really been planning to (I don't particularity like the idea of playing an unfished game)... might buy this one soon though.
There should be a custom difficulty like in some city builder/survival/management games so you can, for example, have food spoilage and fireman stupidity on a slider or 1-10 kinda thingy.
Having a right tough two months but so glad mack is still making videos, they do help delay/distract my mind away from things that I'm not coping with...might give this game a go or humankind since humankind is on sale and farthest frontier idk if I can cope with this crop rotation thing.

Some say that farmer is still running with his F*CKiN bucket!... and if you listen on a quiet day you can hear him coming.. **Sloshing sounds*.
Hi Mack! Here is you review of The Witcher 3? I can´t find it!
Looks great but I just got into Anno 1800 and I can't put it down, or is it worth ditching it to play this?
Looking good so far. The worst part about Anno for me was transferring items from island to ship then to another island then back to the ship then to another island... If this doesn't have the ship aspect it could be ideal (in my opinion).
Yeah that bit of Anno was annoying imo
I loved Anno 1800. This looks like something I'm gonna enjoy. This looks like a combination of Anno 1800 and Age of Empires
Played 10hr now - a match for Banished, Forest Village & Ostriv - maybe better, time will tell. Need to be able to zoom out & tilt camera more though, feels claustrophobic as is. Pretty excited to find a good, new medieval town builder.
It looks like a fun casual game
At this moment I'm looking for a game similar to this but with combat elements a bit like They Are Billions, but still gonna put this one on my Steam Wishlist in case I get into a phase where I just want to build and manage some shit again.
Mack what do you think about the price, lack of demo, low content (no campaign, just one mode with no set objectives etc.)?
@@WorthABuyreviews yeah but apart from bug fixes all they said that will be added is new building tiers and thats it, have I missed something?
“Crop rotation in the 14th century was considerably more widespread after John?"
Hi Mack any chance of doing a wab on a fps called Animalistic please ?
Ty, i will hold on until after early access based on this review.
Will you review Two Point Campus?
Probably, it does look fun.
I've been waiting for a Banished follow-up type game for years.
I hope this will be it.
I've never played a Steam early access game and I hadn't really been planning to (I don't particularity like the idea of playing an unfished game)... might buy this one soon though.
What makes it different than banished? I’m interested if it’s enough different
Thanks Mack for another honest review. Game looks cool
Crop Rotation Simulator. Sounds great!
"like facking BEARS, the bastards" 🤣
Had me laughing pretty hard during the crop rotation bit. Good lord, not even sure why it was so funny.
There should be a custom difficulty like in some city builder/survival/management games so you can, for example, have food spoilage and fireman stupidity on a slider or 1-10 kinda thingy.
sorry, firefolk!
Is Clanfolk worth a buy?
Done a couple of hours in that, will continue some time but it was not something that captivated me tbh.
@@WorthABuyreviews cheers for the insight. Big fan of rimworld so looked quite cool
I really like crate entertainment. If you're into ARPGs definitely check out Grim Dawn by them, it's an amazing game, even if it's a bit older.
Iam a die hard ARPG fan since Diablo 1, but since Diablo 2 only Grim Dawn realy hooked me up for countless hours, such a great Game.
Having a right tough two months but so glad mack is still making videos, they do help delay/distract my mind away from things that I'm not coping with...might give this game a go or humankind since humankind is on sale and farthest frontier idk if I can cope with this crop rotation thing.
I want this on PS5!! This is exactly what I'm looking for.
There was this very promising game Manor Lords that is still in developing. There was a time when I watched daily at least once for news about that because it scratched that one itch that banished left behind. This game seems to accomplish the same thing AND it's out. I can't wait to try it out
Glad you looked at this :) thx Mack
anno'y but more details ........... finally ^^ someone understands us bourgondy gamers.
Tesco delivers me carrots a root veg. That seem to have been picked in 1635 AD that turn to dust and mold within 3 days of putting them in my fridge ;p
What a beautiful game!
Don't forget that Crate support their games for a long time with huge updates and expansions. (see Grim Dawn)
From Grim Dawn to this, I'm impressed. Create Entertainment is quite versatile.
Surprised you didnt even mention the performance being quite meh. It stutters when you open anything and scroll through inventory for example.
Mine was fine or I would have, thats odd
@@WorthABuyreviews It's clearly not, in the footage. When you talk about the traders and you're scrolling, its lagging like crazy. When you open menus there's a micro stutter.
@@WorthABuyreviews at 8:50 it's so clear.
@@Plague_Doc22 I can see why he missed that, it was happening while he was showing that menu and the people started that. Something similar happens in cities skylines when the pop gets too big and your cpu has a had time processing traffic.
I think the problem is on your end, game runs just fine for me and I have everything set on maximum graphics.
hmm I might grab this on the current Autumn sale!
Man I'd love to see you review Big Rig Over the Road Racing. We all know the game but I'd love your commentary from it! lol
good ole days of a UK xmas
why is everyone saying an Anno 1800 'successor' as if Anno is dead? Anno 1800 is still fresh as butter, and in fact, I am currently playing Anno 1404 (intend for 1800 later), and yes Farthest Frontier also.
