Man, I feel this so much, I was just saying the same thing the other day. I was on the Tube and everybody except me was staring at their phones. No one was looking up, it was airy and scary. It's mad how addictive it is, I had to take away all technology from my 7 year old, I kept tech away from her when she was young and only recently let he have a few hours a day, then I watched her usage like a hawk, she would end up on youtube. Her charger broke and I left my Ipad with her and went to work, I came back and saw she was on the ipad. I asked my wife and she said she refused to put it down and was on it all day - 10 hours or so. I took it off her and she had a breakdown. Once she settled, her basic human needs started to pop up, she went to the toilet, and said she was hungry. It was madness. So when her charger arrived, I changed her settings. I made it a requirement to read for 45 mins before it would unlock usage of the rest of the tablet and then she had an hour of apps and 30 mins of video. She would chew up the video time then go on apps, and it would only work between 5-8pm, so even if she wakes up early she won't be able to use it. Even then when her time would run out she would annoy us and ask us for our phones or ipads. Eventually, we decided she was too young and didn't understand that too much screen time is bad for her, her argument was but it's fun how can it be bad. She would always say she was bored. She eventually broke her tablet charging socket and I didn't replace or fix it. She is now showing normal signs of a girl her age. I might try again when she's 10, but extended family allows her to use their devices, which is a pain as they are making my job as a parent harder. I understand how bad too much of something is, but because the instant dopamine hit makes it hard to be productive, and do anything else, personally when i'm working my phone goes on silent and in the drawer.
