  • During my trip to London I was fortunate enough to do an amazing talk with Justine Gruser from the photographic department at Sotheby's in London.

    So much substance... Never have I appreciated the process more than after watching this, thank you for sharing Tyler !

    Thank you for sharing this Q&A, I was gutted I couldn't make it on the day. I was fascinated to hear the stories behind these remarkable photographs, and this video did not disappoint

    hearing this and other interviews where you speak about your pictures' processes and what all the technicalities of shooting in certain environments are or just other things that a non-photographer doesn't pay that mind mind to is so inspiring. you don't just vaguely go over how you created a photo rather into the details and I love that! I've become a fan instantly and can't wait to see all the new things you come up with. I also watched your videos with Mike and found it so inspiring that you're being a mentor and supportive of someone who is of similar age as i am and can't wait to meet a guide like you in my lifetime

    The fakie 360 over the rail in the beginning was massive, and thanks for sharing your experience through this interview!

    FFS man!
    You just put yourself next to Avedon, Penn, Newton on my 'all time heroes' shelf.
    You are a legend.

      Sounds great, but wait a second..
      You said Newton? Well, Tyler just copied his “girl running from the airplane”. True legend, doubtless.

    • @GaabrielArchAngel
      @GaabrielArchAngel 5 лет назад

      Максим Прянишников have you read Avedon's biography (called: Something Personal).
      Or Annie Leibovitz's? Maybe Bob Carlos Clarke? Everone was inspired and re-mixed arts since Ancient Rome.
      This how it works: you crate, re-mix, re-create. Painters, composers, photographers have been doing this for dozens of decades.

      Gabor Szantai I expected something like that, so, firstly: where is his own imagination? You can’t be a true artist when you just “inspiring” by somebody’s photographs (copying)
      Do you seriously believe him? He is lying to you while telling this nonsense about making the photograph! Well, he told about every feeling he got while thinking about the photo, but why he told nothing about the inspirer-Newton? He copied the idea and the composition. Because he knows that nobody cares about people he is copying. To sum up, I am not his hater, but I am really outraged when he gives out others people ideas as if they belonged to him.
      I hope that one day he will creat something by his own.

      Gabor Szantai do not mix inspiration and plagiarism

    • @GaabrielArchAngel
      @GaabrielArchAngel 5 лет назад

      Максим Прянишников not sure you know his work...🙄
      But I am not here to change your opinion, we saw his photography differently and I believe it's not a problem. Avedon and Irving Penn were accused with plagiarism a few times.
      My work is inspired by them or Vincent Peters and Peter Lindbergh. Am I just copying or seeking my own style?

    Loved listening to the stories behind the photos! Favorite part was how every photograph was taken on purpose, one frame at a time. Very cool stuff Tyler!

      @@tylershieldsvideos No problem man! You should do a video over getting noticed without social media (im slowly despising it haha). You kind of touched base on it in the social media vs sales, but maybe some step by step actions, idk I just think whatever you talk about is pretty helpful

    Tyler definitely knows his market. They lap up the exaggerations or down right lies. Haha. Fools parted indeed.

    Very cool to hear the processes behind the shots. Love the work. I'd like to know why dye transfers are dying (no pun intended) off? If it's the truest colour, I thought artisans everywhere would be doing it.

      Because the chemicals that are required to make the prints are not produced anymore neither will they ever be again since, A, they are extremely toxic, B, the recipe is a secret.

    A dye-transfer does NOT last for 1000 years! [see Wilhelm for reference] and tylershields did not print it but had it printed. How can Sotheby's go along with this except for the money?!? Such a lack of professionalism (and ethics) on both sides.
