I find it pretty fascinating how Stanley Donwood is a sort of shadow member of Radiohead, and yet has had a massive influence over the audience's perception of their music. There is a sort of loop between the music and the artwork that makes them inseperable from one another
Kid A's album cover is easily one of the most if not hauntingly beautiful cover. It sounds just like the album. Radiohead is the best band in terms of the album covers portrayed. I mostly bought kid A for the cover itself cause its beautiful to look at.
My hair stands up whenever I stare at the cover especially listening to the transition of the panic in National Anthem and the heartbreaking How To Disappear Completely.
To explain it shortly, this album can be described by "art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed."
I am simply both.
One of the best, by far...
So true! I love your comment
I agree completely with you!
Completely agree, ive never heard someone apply that quote to radiohead and it completely clicks for kid A!
Inside the Malaysian edition of the album, the first pressing that is, there are additional artwork on oil paper which are amazing. Not available on EU or US edition somehow.
I always remember when I put the kid a cd on the first time, as I looked at the mountains like things on the cover and everything in its right place played I feel like I was transported into that strange landscape.
love to see Thom laughing and being so comfortable:)
I also, love to see Thom being comfortable.

I was lucky enough to help Stanley build his exhibition in Sydney a few years ago. He gave me and a few mates complete control to let loose with nail guns and spray cans for a few days. Was a great weekend, even cooked him a roast dinner. He's a top bloke.
I always liked the crying demons on page five, especially the one with the running headless man behind it. It looks so clean, like it's a tattoo I would want to get. And the graveyard on page eight. It's so spooky. And on page 13 it's the crying demon again with this really spooky beast walking by a tree on these grid lines. I thought that was really cool looking. I think after listening to Radiohead for 20 years now Kid A is my ultimate favorite record, and I always appreciated the art of the album. SO it's really cool to hear this interview. Thanks!
I tattooed one of those crying minotaur-like demons on my right foot. My girlfriend at the time had gotten some tattoos on her feet, so I thought, I can take that lol. So tender. Hurt so much, so uncomfortable getting it on there. That crying Demon reminds me that even monsters feel. Most times when you meet some real A-hole, it's just a very hurt person who was hurt a long time ago and never learned or was never taught how to cope with pain. It's easier to make someone feel your pain with hurtful words than it is with reason and articulation sometimes. Only love can kill the demon. Be kind. Even to us monsters. Signed, some guy that's been working to solve his anger issues since childhood without professional help.
Greetings from former Yugoslavia. I'm in love in Radiohead, in Stanley's work for a yearssss and I had no idea that Residential Nemesis is about Yugoslavia... it's fascinated. Thank You for compassion..
Probably the best band I’ve ever heard.
I’m hoping In Rainbows receives this kind of attention in three years. That album has blossomed beautifully
Thanks daddy Thom
Sound, word, music, voice inform what’s seen and created visually as a response and reflection. Yours is a harmonious relationship that’s produced memorable work, thank you for this peek under the tent
No other creative output has had such an effect on my life as that which the members of this band, Stanley and Nigel produce. It means something so deep to me. If any of them ever read this I want them to know that I really love them, in the purest and most real way possible. Thank you🙏
Thanks for being here, Thom and Stanley.
Authentic, from their music to their art, Radiohead remains legendary.
Such a cool art style.
The Eraser also has a fantastic cover.
Back in the late 90's there was a pretty strong rumour on the Radiohead mailinglist and message boards that Stanley Donwood didn't exist and was just a pseudonym for Thom or the collective band, because no one could find out any info on him (the internet was very crude and dishevelled back then). I'm both happy and disappointed that he does, indeed, exist.
Kid A is probably one of the album in the world
They really are one of the most rated bands of all time*
*(1993-2021)
Radiohead is a band that makes music
Agreed, I'd even go as far as to say that Radiohead is one of the bands in the world.
Thom Yorke is a
yes it has the songs
I love Radiohead and Stanley the two got me out of a quite bad rut and really formed my paintings. I haven't seen art like Stanley's before and it is completely capturing of Radiohead's rawness and really fun to do, would recommend giving it a shot if you have the resources
Pinche genio, adoro sus obras las he visto en instagram y los álbumes y me vuelve loco su forma
Perfection. Both of them are legends
Happy birthday Thom!

Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
Love watching this and realize how much I miss Radiohead even though I have bad associations with these albums now. Interesting they talk about 9/11 because that’s basically the reason I’ve had trouble listening to this.
7:30 shows the navigation map of the virtual Kid A mnesia exhibition on the PS5/PC
This is beautiful 🙂

Interesting chart of songs at 7:31. A couple I can't recognise/make out - looks like [The] Fast-track near the top? 'Little [Child?] at the far right?
♥️
Hello, how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
I know it's been said multiple times here already, but I think Kid A is probably a top ten 'the album cover fits the music, is part of the music, is part of the experience and atmosphere and feeling' kind of cover of all time. Of course Radiohead's covers in general are incredibly intriguing due to Stanley's art, but even if it's not your fave or even an album you like, you have to admit that Kid A just is that bitch in that regard.
"I find it hard to look at these without hearing the music' indeed.
Love the ' ok computer ' art album

I’ve always wondered where the book from the Amnesiac cover is these days 📕

Stanley Donwood is the perfect person to represent Thom's and Radiohead's artistic vision. I love seeing the end product.
"He was the guy at art college that can actually paint, they kicked me out," -Thom Yorke 0:43
I find that very motivational. Don't doubt your skills. Very humble of him.
Kid A literally resembles the sound of the music so perfectly
I imagine that doing the artwork and music at the same time and in the same place enabled that. I think it’s like a feedback loop of the music informing the direction of the artwork and the artwork informing the direction of the music. And I think the same thing goes for the listener. The music affects how we see the art and the artwork affects how we hear the music. And it all works symbiotically to create that world in our minds. Idk maybe I’m just rambling.
@@Contributron no i agree
Amnesiac's artwork as well. The best words to describe that album and it's artwork is either jarring or odd. Or even nightmarish.
@@Christian-97 yes amnesiac is the best album oat for me
Love that they used Like Spinning Plates here, that song is CRIMINALLY underrated
"I find it hard to look at these without hearing the music... it's in them. It's encoded." Yes. This is how I've always felt about Stanley's work and RH. It's so intrinsically linked. What a great video! So happy to see them both smiling and enjoying themselves.

Thom seems to be an adorable person, down to earth, modest. I don't only like the artist or the band radiohead, it seems that everyone in the band are so likeable and simple.

A very different side of Thom showing through, smiling. even laughing! and seems to be totally at ease. It shows how essential that time was for him and thank you so much Stanley for helping to bring him back and reconnecting to his soul. Wonderful to have an idea of how the covers were created!! I thank the Higher Power who was by their sides during this time. Without it, what might have happened to Thom & Radiohead.....we wouldn't have The Smile and we wouldn't have this "gem" of a musician with us now. His spirit shines through and I hope he finds time to paint?? A very busy man and a joy to behold. Lots of love to you both xx

I love these dudes, hearing how deep thoughts and ideas turn into their art.
They totally achieved what they set out to: the music and the art are inseparable
A perfect marriage of visuals and sound. Stanley Donwood's is an essential part to Radiohead.
You can tell Pablo Honey´s cover was not part of this.
I’ll never forget getting Kid A in the year 2000 and wondering how they made art that somehow looked and felt like such a perfect representation of the music. It was so impressive.
