In the 90s I collected star wars micro machines, and I always wished they made they made miniatures models from the PC games. The Star wing was one of them ... 25 years, 25 years I've been waiting for this, and now it's finally here. Thanks FF
@@jasonwhite7905 Right? It's insane, i regret not getting one on release. Might have to recreate the expansion with Strange Eons and 3D printed models from shapeways at this point
Nice touch calling the non-unique pilots "Rho" and "Nu" squadrons - those were the exact same squadron names used for the gunboats in the X-wing PC game. Yeah, I admit I'm a geek for remembering that....
+American Desi FFG is generally very good about adding those thematic touches into this game. There are a lot of examples, especially on the card art. One of my favorites has always been the original Chewbacca pilot card, which shows the Falcon leaving Cloud City - one of the only times you ever see Chewie in the pilot's seat of the Falcon. Really great attention to detail.
Yes! So glad you got a review out for this one. The starwing is the most interesting ship out of wave 12. Love the idea of that cannon title being added to your ship build
Couple caveats: 1. There was a way to get back ordinates before using the Scavenger Crane illicit upgrade. 2. Outside of the K-wing, Large ships can also slam (once) using the Burnout Slam illicit upgrade.
Great video. I'm glad this ship is in the game and yeah... I'm old too, fighting against the Assault Gunboat in the X-Wing PC game back in the mid 90s. I'm very pleased with how FFG has implemented here. I can't wait to try it out against a squad of X-Wings.
On what you said about the OS-1 loadout, I think the card is worth it for the fact that you can fire at a ship which you have target locked even while you have weapons disabled token. They had to put in something that's "less of a deal" with the extra torp and missiles for that kind of point cost.
Talon One I'm still new as an imperial player came last place in a tournament but my name came up in the raffle first so I picked up the Imperial carrier that got me started with the imperials. From what I hear imperial players have been screaming for this ship for a long time it's about time we got a small imperial ship that doesn't have tie in its name
For fairness sake, the Rebel fighters are almost all a something-wing (except for the Z-95 Head Hunter). And there are PLENTY of TIEs to choose from in Legends. I remembered a vid in which it was mentioned how many different TIE version are out there (First Order NOT included!): ruclips.net/video/_7LmmsT6lFc/видео.html And that is just the first of two!
Yeah, but the rebel ships tend to be distinct in their appearance. There are a lot of TIE-class ships that look very much alike. There are some cool, unique ones for sure but then you also have the TIE/ln, TIE/fo and TIE/sf which are more or less the exact same ship appearance-wise.
One notable downside of the Harpooned condition caused by Harpoon Missiles, if I understand it correctly, is that it's possible to inflict damage to your own ships if you're at range 1 of the Harpooned ship when you attack it. I thought Harpoon Missiles were a better value than Cruise Missiles, but after trying them out a few times, I'm leaning back towards Cruises. Have you tried out Harpoon Missiles yet?
+Roman Yunker Not yet. I tend to enjoy running action efficient aces more than ordnance carriers. I will definitely be trying them out with this ship though. Saturation Salvo is the same way - it will affect any ship at range 1 of a missed torpedo or missile attack. You definitely need to be careful about positioning your ships when using either of those upgrades.
I miss the good old days playing X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter when I used to go head-to-head against a gunboat in my X-wing and lose horribly. It was at that point that I realized that fighting humans in this game was a lot different from fighting the AI in X-wing. LOL.
I'm pretty sure it does... IF you use the OS-1 title. Advanced Slam gets you the target lock for the cruise and the OS-1 title allows you to attack with a target lock
+CrazyK Gaming I think he's asking if you would add the speeds of your normal maneuver and the SLAM maneuver when calculating how many additional attack dice Cruise Missiles will roll. I could be wrong about that, though.
+Zeromus5555 I'm not so sure that he's a good value. I think I'd rather go for the budget Nu Squadron Pilot with Harpoon Missiles and either Long Range Scanners or Guidance Chips for 22 points.
The Cardboard Dungeon Ya I see builds already topping with that. I just like the idea of Vynder with VI as an ace. That extra defence dice is really nice.
Most likely VI, advanced slam, and your missile of choice. Feels like homing or harpoon is probably the way to go. There may be an argument for a second missile or extra munitions since it does decrease your reliance on the reload action. Action economy can be a minor issue with the missile boat so it is possible you might see builds running lone wolf or predator (or even expertise) instead of VI, although despite that you do want vynder to move last if possible. For reasons of action economy most torpedoes (which force you to spend your target lock) are probably not going to get used.
great video, these are the bruiser class gun boats of the empire, cheap and pack a punch. You can table a list of four of these bad boys with combined NU squadron(4) of 8 attack, 8 defense, 28 hull-shield with your choice of a missile secondary like Flechette (3 attack Dice) of combined 12 attack dice range 2-3(range 1 laser guns 2+1 dice too!). With the reload and OS-1 title card.. Bad Ass! Add the Advanced Slam to get into or out of dodge your good to go. This list runs as a loose formation to target each round the same target and deal a devastating first strike to get the opponent on its heels. Death to the Heretic Rebel SCUM!
seriously you think that the title that only lets you fire cannons with a value of 2 or less while you are weapons disabled is the better option than the one that lets you fire any missile or torpedo in the game? think it through.
It's not that it lets you fire cannons with a value of 2 or less after a SLAM. It's that you get two cannon icons so you can bring Mangler or HLC plus Linked Battery. It's better action efficiency than Arsenal Loadout, which requires you to use your Advanced Slam action to target lock unless you already have one in order to make use of its ability.
explain how a cannon you can't shoot is better than missiles you can shoot. sure re-rolling a dice is great, but you first have to actually roll the dice, also why wouldn't you have advanced slam on this ship? as for action efficiency.....Move, slam, target lock then shoot. you get two actions and no stress. also lets talk options with you can load up on 4 different types of weapons. try advanced proton torps then any torp with a range of 2-3 Ion or plasma, then cluster missiles and harpoon or scrambler, advanced slam and expertise With Vynder and Karsabi . In the last 6 games I played with these guys I made first kill in by move three. is that doable with cannons, sure but only against the weakest ships.
Congratulations, based on that build you posted, you've put around 50 points into a single 2 Agility ship with 7 total health. Lots of better squadrons will wipe that off the table in a single round of combat. But like I said, you're entitled to your opinion, and if that ship is working for you where you play then absolutely keep flying it.
Also why no Advanced Slam? Because then you can run four gunships at 25 points each and roll 12 fully modded dice in combat. In my experience Slam puts you out of position to do anything useful and also hopefully out of enemy arcs so I don't really care about the free action too much.

No, he was right. There's no other way to recover ordnance before scavenger crane and no other imperial ship can slam.

X-Wing on PC rocked, I wish they'd do a new one...
+Thomas Schwarzenbacher Oh they still make those games... they're just called Battlefront now.
TIE Fighter still rules. For sheer gameplay, there is nothing to match it even after 20 years.

IG-88 cries robo-tears at the small ship only text on linked battery card :(
+Shephard888 Yes he does. It would be too good on double IG-88 builds I imagine.
Couldn’t you just keep slamming all the way to the other side of the map with advance slam because you choose to slam again ?
No, one of the core rules of X-Wing is that you can never perform the same action more than once per round.
Holy cow! Is is Christmas?
+C D Almost :)
I thought it was kind of an ugly ship haha >.<
I think the K-wing is more ugly however :P
curious to see this in real life though
more missiles and torpedoes more options, pretty simple to figure out. have you even played the game.
No need to be insulting here. It's my personal opinion that Assault Configuration is the better title on this ship. You disagree, and that's fine.

I rarely fly more than two ships with any build unless it's epic so 50 point ships are common for me. you should see my 50 point E-wing
so theoretically you could just SLAM, SLAM, SLAM,....
Sure. You probably wouldn't need to, but you could.
