As a former owner of similar spec Rx2 I built for hillclimbs, this brings memories flooding back. Spending every cent of every pay check in my early 20’s, now in my 50’s I’m determined buy another. Even for just the sounds and smells. Can’t beat an old rotor. Loving your channel!
Normally not a fan of hand recording type videos but this one was showing all the interesting bits and pieces. Nothing silly, no down time, actually sat here entertained watching you play with the car till it was running.
You are a legend finding these and getting them back on the road 👏 the 1971 was originally 12A but being a race car they had obviously updated to the 13B. My RX4 13B PP was raced in the 1980’s sports sedan series !
Love it. Looking at this video brings back great memories of my old Chrome Yellow RX4 sedan with a 600 Holley and a 100 shot back in the day when spare 13B motors cost $500. Good times.
Everyday when I check my RUclips notifications, I hope to find another video from Low Standards. This was very enjoyable to watch: the in depth diagnostic check to get it to start, followed by the engine coming alive, and concluded by some consistent revving, resulting in multiple flames. Keep up the good work!

According to Wikipedia it was 1974 when the rotary was offered in that body shape so not sure about the 1971 claim. However it’s excellent to see your magnificent efforts. Keep it up please

Great work Jay, I've been hangin out for this video since you picked it up on your road trip. Also there is a bracket under the diff housing, also denotes 13B diff with 28 spline axles. Iam a rotary man however some pistons do flow in the blood, love the videos , you know the best thing about all your content you've always got a smile on ya dial
I saw an RX4 coupe back in the 80s he split the rims and widened them and had them chromed looked perfect, same rims that are on that one. He painted it metallic British racing green. Man it looked so good!
Good luck getting it to stop and good luck finding tie rod joints and idler arm bushings . Tip , I used fuel hose to make idler arm cone bushings . Cut them slightly longer than stock and when you shape it stop when it barely just almost fits inside enough to get the nut started , you want to compress your new "bushings" when assembled to avoid up and down play . I used a bench grinder to make the cone shape . I got front hoses off a old mazda pickup . Do not drive with cracked brake hoses , trust me it will fail at a bad time . Good luck . Remember this folks , if it cant stop don't bother getting it going !

Its an old group E race car which raced in the street sedan series. Stock engine,gearbox, wheels etc, had to run std exhaust manifold but exhaust was free.
Great to see being saved Looks like a cool race car in its day 😁 Hope you remove the rust in the main body/frame, put in proper repair panels, that way the body will last, It deserves to have the main body/frame done right boltable panels can be replaced easily, or keep your rust patina style lol Wee trick with carbs, if you rev it high, then cover carb with hand 😬 and keep revs up, it usually sucks all shitte out of carb, usually runs better after etc 🙂

first car i got when i was 17, 12a s1 rx7. daily drove it for 6 years, never missed a beat. they just need plugs n oil every 6 months and they dont stop.
@@lowstandards5269 My gemini wagon had rusty brake lines and anything unpainted under the car from being parked on grass but also blistered paint on the bonnet and roof due to tarp in Melbourne.(found a good bonnet in same colour for mine, roof looks ok from 20 feet away)

7:11 water temperature sensor, pretty sure it was part of the anti-pollution crap, and separate to the sensors for the temperature guage and semi-auto choke solenoid.
I’m sure this is one of the “rotary beat “ race cars that were hire race cars for qld raceway . There were several rotary’s for hire . Work for taipan xp if you find Kerry , you will find the rest of the history
Haven't watched all the vid yet, so don't know if you sourced them, but if you have no luck with tail lights, use the complete ones you have to plasticine cast some with a pour-mold tail light plastic liquid kit. Or just get some smart-arse to 3d print them
Very cool car! Now all you need to do is swap that engine for a real piston one so it will last a little while and then swap out the Automatic Trans if it hasn't already been done! Great car! Rare!

Thank mate. Yeah it has the bracket so and I’ve had the axles out it’s a 28 spline diff.

In the 90s I bought plenty of rx7s that would not start pour trans fluidin the carb free up the apex seals and then they fire up
Same they always seem to run with some trans fluid
