$5k in parts once you have your samurai seems like a good budget. That’s about what I have in mine. 6.5 t case, tracker 5.12s in samurai steel housings, spool in the back, lunchbox in the front. Stock 1.3 on some half dead 34x9.5 swampers on stock rims bolted on backwards for more offset. Love your work!!!!!! A lot of my 5k budget was maintenance, new Weber carb, clutch, radiator… that kinda stuff
I have roughly $3K in mine. Stock Samurai axles, Tracker 5.13 centers, mini-spool in rear, 33's, SPOA, 5K harbor freight winch. Custom bumper made from metal out of the scrap hopper. It is in similar condition as this one for rust, but a little more banged up. I would like to go with some transfer case gears for slower low-range gearing, but otherwise it works really good.
Budget wise, I think is what your willing to put into it! But that thing is a rust bucket!!!! I'm buliding a Sammy, my budget is farrrr more than yours. But, I am aslo building a Budget sammy... I know it's a beater, and stuff cost money... So here I am to see what you come up with! I'll keep watchin!
Just got one, similar but we're in CA so no rust. Good job on the teardown. I would say 'budget' would be under 5K if you're good at scrounging and repurposing. I've been looking at parts and it looks like it would be easy to spend 10k just getting it back to stock with some upgrades.
My budget build has a good bit of your parts on it actually. I've got around 5k in mine. 2k samurai 500k spoa yj springs, missing links 2k gearing. Tracker doubler, 6.5to1 gears, stage 3 clutch to hold it. 500 in 1.6 engine swap. Lots of trading and salvaging but its a solid rig. Hopefully doing axles soon either yotas or d44
I would say not counting Suzuki because shape it's in could be out of budget range from beginning. So if all ready have one 5 Grand to spend is good budget build. That can be over several months time . My option is always try do one thing at a time so u can wheel a little then upgrade wheel a little then upgrade. When you try to do it all it takes longer , more $ and that's when u usually don't finish the project. End up selling it for fraction of what u got n it. My opinion
Getting my first samurai so these videos are GOLD for me appreciate ya !

Very cool! Looking forward to the next steps. Budget build seems to be the first stage for some until the next upgrade. 😎
Could you please go over the difference between regearing axle’s
And regearing the transfer case. Pro’s and con’s. Thanx
All in under 5000 sounds like a real budget to me....then park it beside a 50000$ Suzuki
i dont know why but i was entertained
10k all in

I definitely understand where your coming from. I bought a lot of peoples un finished projects.
hey Dr Z , i have a samurai and im thinking of restoring can you help me out
My budget build plan was 10k for EVERYTHING after I bought my sammy.
I would think budget friendly is 4/5K or less. Lower would be better!
Hi, i know that's old video, but i searching for name/code of this color? Do you know anything?
No clue it’s a factory blue color
Looking good man. Don’t forget to check out my body dropped SAMURAI build on my channel.
I would say these days budget build -to the extent you are going - 7k
5k
