- This just in: the Pilot Custom 74 in Teal and Merlot (or Burgundy) arrived from Japan. Join us as we unbox and explore the Custom 74 in these two permanent color additions to the collection. Some quick information about the pen: the Custom 74 body is built from translucent, tinted resin. The body shape is cylindrical with a slight tapering to the cap and barrel ends that come to rounded, smoke grey translucent finials. The pen includes a CON-70 pump converter for easy, one-handed filling operation with a capacity of 1.25ml of ink. The nib is a consistent, smooth 14kt gold that provides a sublime writing experience far exceeding the value of the pen.

Love both of those colors, especially the Teal, which is my favorite color. I have a couple of Custom 74 pens already and love the way they write. I have ordered the Teal and expect it in the mail tomorrow. Can't wait!
I bought it yesterday... Its really good... Writes in a impressive way
Tom.. when you said we'd be punished it brought me back to my Catholic school days in Queens, N.Y.! But, I do love the 2 new 74 models.. for $160!!! Love it!
Frank from Boulder, Colorado
Never used one but they look nice, I am a med nib type guy was wondering does the tend to be F/M or is the nib size m is m f is f?
Would you say that the soft nibs from pilot could have less longevity? I do not know whether to buy the Medium Nib of the Soft Fine Medium Nib for Pilot Custom 743
Here in Asia, the colors are Turquoise and Wine Red, and they look a lot like those colors.
is the nib removable for cleaning like custom823 ?
do you have a comparison between this pen Pilot Custom 74 and the popular Pelikan M200 Transparent Pen ? Just out of interest.
i was really expecting to watch an ink filling scene with those.
Good point! We'll do a quick tip that will show the filling of the CON-70 converter.
So is teal the same as clear turquoise green?? I’m confused 😕
Do you feel the medium nib writes closer to a western fine? I’m debating on ordering the new blue in either a medium or a broad and don’t want to order the medium and it be too fine.
Pilot gold nibs are not so skinny, the medium is quite medium, but not so medium as say pelikan or visconti medium...
I agree with Arunabha, the Pilot nib width isn't like a Sailor or Platinum, where the medium is more like a fine. The Pilot 14kt medium is quite close to a jowo medium.
I had and issue with the slim section when I had mine leading me to sell it off - do you have any recommendations for pens in a similiar price range with large sections?
Does the pen need to be a demonstrator? Or have a gold nib?
@@GoldspotPens nope! I just like larger sections and it's sometimes hard to go through all the pens and try to find dimensions for every pen you look at.
Several that come to mind: Opus 88 Demo, Leonardo Momento Zero, Esterbrook Estie, and Diplomat Aero.
@@GoldspotPens Thank you! Can't wait to check them out.
Is this a limited edition or just new colors for the lineup?
Checking in on that one for you and let you know soon.
Confirmed: yes, they are permanent editions to the Custom 74 line.
@@GoldspotPens Thanks so much!
Does every custom 74 comes with a CON 70 converter?
Yes.
Can the nib be switched out for a soft fine nib?
Unfortunately, no. It's a different nib unit.
Thanks for this review. I'm also wondering if these two colors are limited editions or added to the regular product line. I wish they won't be LE.
Also, I'm happy that at least Pilot comes with such attractive color options. I hope, Pilot produce new colors for Custom 823 too.
I'm finding out from Pilot management to get the answer on that one. I'm hoping for the Custom 823 in the FA. New colors in that model would be a bonus as well.
Confirmed: yes, they are permanent editions to the Custom 74 line.
@@GoldspotPens good news, thanks for fast respond too.
great pen but too costly, so wing sung 699 not so good will have to do!
hi
thanks for your video, i have the 92 but never i try the 74, the same nibs for the 92 and 74 ?
John Karhu Yeah they share the same job along with the 91. The 92 just has a different body and filling system
is it true that it is easily crack?
No, they do not crack easily.
Penvy....Soooooooooobad.
