Cedar Log Being Milled on a Foley-Belsaw A-14 Circular Sawmill 2

- The Foley-Belsaw A-14 sawmill is finally running well. The blade is a 48" inserted tooth blade we got at an auction. This mill originally came with only two headblocks, but a third was added from a parts carriage. The heavier dogs were also custom made to replace the original ones.
The tractor is an early 50's Oliver 88.
To see Tractorman44 in action, check out this video and see his cordwood saw: • Kubota and a Cordwood saw
Tractorman44 (the guy running the mill) has an overview of this mill over on his channel. Go have a look at it! ruclips.net/video/MYlLlE3tZ3c/видео.html
love the richness of the cedar along with the rough sawn look 😉 tractor wasn't even breathing hard. Thanks for your video.
valley2118 You're quite welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
That juniper has to smell terrific as it is sawn.
My wife back in the 70's worked for Foley-Belsaw and she loved watching your video and so did I! Thanks for your video!!
Very cool!! That old boy looks like he could throw some lumber around!! I love Cedar!!
Excellent setup mister and great job! Thank you very much for a window into how its done. Thumbs way up for the upload! It was common to see similar setups like this when i was a youngster. Most folks ran a belt off the rear end of a truck with no bed on it, some with tractors pto as in this video some with committed diesel engines and water wheels. This is how we built our house and anything else including bridges. No Lowes or Home Depot hehe
Gerald-My uncle in Missouri used to have a modified steel wheel he would put on his pickup to run the belt from the right rear position. He didn't want to tie up his Massey-Ferguson just to run the mill.
Looks like a simple to use system, great video. Thank you
Beautiful color. I can only imagine the smell! Wow!
What a Beautiful Log. Such rich red color and as someone has said it must smell wonderful.
The color of the cedar, is beautiful!
I love the smell of fresh cut cedar, this must of been like heaven,
Beautiful and a pleasant fragrance!!
my dad has a foley belsaw he purchased in the early 1960's, Looks like this one, still works well , current power ( since late 80's ) source is his 1956 ford flatbed truck. he still runs it when someone needs lumber, not so often anymore as he is in his early 90's and only has 1 arm, I think last year was his last but we'll see
Awesome machine and beautiful wood.
Remind me not to piss off this feller running the saw! Great video thanks!
Incredible colour!
That is an awesome sawmill. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks! Just a couple of guys having a little fun and thought we'd put it out there.
Watching this video is excellent therapy! Love it. Thank you for sharing with us.
That fellow looks like a man That has put in a lot of hard work.
look at that smirk he loves what he does
Great setup. Love it. The only problem I have is safety of the PTO. A good friend of me was caught by an unprotected PTO and died. His brother found him wrapped around the axle hours later when he didn't show up for dinner. The tractor was still running. It's
He was allways quite relaxed with safety; "Oh, well, I know what I am doing and am very careful". Not enough though..... It's easy to protect the shaft. Please do it!
Here's a tip. Stay away from the shaft while spinning. Drive shafts under vehicles aren't covered.
You see that raging bull? Dont touch it or go near it! Some idiots still do it.
frugje
Sorry for the loss of your friend. I was going to make some comment about common sense. Then I noticed the Sawyer step over the PTO shaft while it was still spinning. He's just lucky.
Tim Green I just found your comment today, and even though I was the one who shot the video, I never noticed him do that. I was always focused on the lumber pile at the end. You're correct though, stepping over the spinning shaft is inexcusable, even if it's not actively powered. I'm surprised he did it. Having grown up on a farm, he has more than one PTO story to tell. As I say, safety is a personal choice. That was his choice, and I'm thankful nothing came of it.
That guy has a nice set of shoulders for his age. I salute working men all over the world who build things,
You should've seen him 10 or 20 years ago!
Reminds me of working with my Grandfather many years ago when he ran the saw mill with a big old steam tractor and I had to keep the fire going and the steam up to pressure. That was many years ago and he has been gone quite some time. Sure does bring back memories.
I can watch this all day
Can almost smell that cedar from here.
Wish I could have been standin there
Mis felicitacion a este !! Gran maestro x su espectaxylar tabajo . saludos a todos .

Watching you fellas again 😉 on my favorite channel list.
Even though I know they're working their butts off, watching anyone mill lumber is pretty relaxing. At least we were taking it easy here :-)

Khó khăn thiếu thốn trong hoàn cảnh . Con người vượt khó nghỉ ra rất thông minh. Cám ơn ông
I love it when the safety nannys come out. Nice job on a great mill. Do you have the edger/planner to go with it?
mike white We do have an edger, but it's pretty low on the list of projects right now. We have a 24" planer that we'd like to get back into service though.
Best smelling yard ever
That's one heck of a table saw lol
It's a slider 😉
Very interestring.
Một sáng tạo rất độc đáo và thú vị đó bạn
Inteligente esse viu. Parabéns.
That is one neat old machine. Quality lasts

I just installed some live edge cedar cantilever shelves alongside my fireplace. At a quick glance they look like bacon :)
Hook up by tractor rear drive shaft . Oldies but goodies idea
Pow patrol
ótima idéia
👍
Благо Дарю !!!
Very satisfying to watch! What is the RPM?
Scott Campbell Thanks! The pile of lumber at the end is satisfying as well. At full throttle, the PTO is at 540 rpm, and we were running just below that. The blade arbor runs directly to the PTO, so that would be the rpm of the blade also.
do you resaw to 2x6 & 2x4?fetch a good price I'm sure.thx for sharing
C'est génial comme système
I ve just realised - it runs of PTO
Beatiful wood
Bad Ass brother!
Trabalho muito bom parabéns
What a cool setup, Im guessing the saw blade is going faster than it looks in the video? Cheers Blaisey
It is running at the operating rpm of the pto, which is 540 at full throttle. Thanks for watching.
Dangerours And awesome at same time
But that, my friend, is what makes it awesome! If it wasn't dangerous, it would just rate "cool". Live long and prospect...
Love the big ol blade cool saw i bought a bandsawmill i just love cutting up wood into useable lumber
Not ignorant at all. But wow. I didn't know the inside of the tree was that beautiful of a color. The amount of unknown information in this world has me ready to seek it out!!!!!
Was any of that lumber good? Looked like a ton of unusable boards.
Every board past the 3 minute mark is absolutely usable.
in the background it looks like an old case constrution king ?? i had a 530 CK from the 60s , and found a 550 CK with a side shift digger on the back !! lovley ol machine , essex UK
Pete Scales Close! It's actually a 580, but good eye. It's a handy piece of equipment to have around, as I'm sure you know. I have two other really short videos of it in action if you're interested.
yes , great to see the ol case working , its a long time ago now but it was sold to someone in poland for 600 quid , we couldnt get any spares for it unfortunatly , it was a magic tool to have round the farm , anything made in the states in good , we also ran all John deeres on the farm ,but couldnt get those lovly 2wd high horsepower tractors you have in the states . my mouth used to water seeing what was on sale !!! would love to see any videos you have of the ol case working , regards Pete scales
I actually do have a couple of short videos I uploaded. Just go to my channel. The videos are nothing special, just a little bit of fooling around. Fun though!
bou de bois ,joli,cher !
I wish I had that set up, just love rough cut timber, any way thanks very inspiring, I will ck out your channel
WOW that wood is beautiful and I like your rig. Easily handled by one man .
Indeed, but two is better, and a third keeping watch on the tractor would be perfect.
damn pretty wood
You betcha.
Muito boa essa serraria
GOOD

Good
Used a slab of Eastern Red Cedar for mantel, man it sure is pretty finished using Shellac about 8 coats, buffed between each one.
good job
Mantap
Really nice cedar! I would sure love to find a saw like that. Are there any available?
They're out there, but I wouldn't say that they're common. This one was from an old farm. Much of it was buried in the dirt, and the blade was unusable. Luckily, we found another blade at a farm auction. After some work on the rest of the mill, we got it running. It really was a lot of fun though.
Are you cutting 1" thick boards? What will you use the lumber for?
Yep, everything is 1" except that last piece left on the mill. The lumber will just be used for whatever woodworking project crops up.
Madeira bonita
BOM MUITO BOM ESSA SERRA NO CARDAN DO TRATOR BOA MESMA
I can smell that cedar.
