I arrived in Austin early '95 and stayed for twenty years. I witnessed it go from it's quirky Linklater / Daniel Johnston zenith to yet another slick state capital with gridlock and multi-use zoning replacing all the former cultural landmarks. My first show there was Don Walser at Guero's on S. Congress and it was galvanizing. Now it's 2020 and I've been gone for five years, yet watching from afar as the last Threadgills closes down feels like a disturbance in the Force. I'm blessed to have seen Don Walser play to a crowd largely of punk rockers at Emo's on 6th Street, a time and place that can't be duplicated. Thanks for posting this concert!
I had the same trajectory. Came to visit for the music and stayed 20 years. Seeing Don Walser at places like Jovita’s was a real treat. And these Threadgill’s supper sessions on Wednesday evenings with Champ Hood and the band were the best.
