@CauseAndCatastrophe I think the podcast was plenty good. Of course I missed Derrick a ton, but I wouldn't throw the other lineups under the bus at all.
Why is it okay to constantly rag on Shawn when he brings up baseball or the Olympics, but immediately an issue when someone makes fun of Rocco for his toys. Little nerds projecting in the comments.
Garrett was asking if the video "Get Good" was in the IGN era of videos (as per the recent compilation) but Rocco was clarifying that that video was released 5 years ago. Not that the term only came about 5 years ago.
I've seen V-Rising being played. I've heard people talk about V-Rising, but Derrick is the first person to describe it in a way that really makes me want to try it out
Asked my local theater a week ago why they never have these promo popcorn buckets and they said they ONLY sell them before the movie comes out because they promote ticket sales before it comes out. Said they keep them for a week after it's IN theaters before sending them to a landfill, but they never last that long any more. The resale market is insane now. You could make a living off of it.
There's a guy I get in my TikTok feed who is all about VHS and he goes to estate sales and buys up all the tapes people have. It's mostly just tv recordings. He's all about those old commercials. But once in a while he gets home movies and he does his best to find the kids or grandkids of the people in the tape to get them their old home movies back. Sends them the file and everything. So you know there's a way to be creepy about it. Like Shawn watching this one family over and over again, and then there's accidentally getting home movies and doing your best to return the video to the family.
I'm sure you guys are aware of this already, but just in case anyone isn't, be very weary of moldy VHS tapes. Especially if they've been outside. Mold gets on the tape and spreads to your VCR and other tapes in turn. It's very gross, but cleanable if you're willing to take apart your VCR and the cases for your tape. There are methods to clean the tape itself too. A lot of people don't realize it. I come across moldy tapes at Goodwill all the time.
Yeah probably cause it sucks to have someone just shitting all over you while you're trying to make a point that companies should not cater so hard to scalpers
Man, I don't think I've played a VHS is probably 10 years, and even then that was probably the first time in 5-10 years I watched one. I'd found some Disney tapes in a charity shop. My memories of the quality of VHS is clouded by the fact our family would always cram 2-3 films per tape in LP mode. That already greatly reduced the quality + for most of my childhood we had a terrible TV reception, so the recordings would look even poorer. I think one of the best upgrades, other than the quality bump, from VHS to DVD was the original aspect ratios. So many retail VHS were either open matte, or heavily cropped with crude 'pan&scan'.
Another part of Garrett's ever increasing memory hole: Bloodborne and Elden Ring heavily minimized invading. Bloodborne basically has only one area you can be invaded without opting in and Elden Ring you basically only get invaders by opting into it. Also you can't get invaded by players during boss fights in any of the souls games. But maybe that happens in Borderlands 4, i didn't play that one.
Yeah that part was frustrating to listen to. Doesn't help that they go on a rant against FromSoft every other week either. But then complain that gaming is creatively bankrupt. These games that are jam packed with content and creativity with no scummy monetization apparently deserve no credit and their players are simply git gud spamming tryhards. At the end Rocco even seems to imply the dlc was somehow a flop because difficult.
He says later in the stream it was 3, I can see why garret would be confused because it was technically the fourth release if you count the pre-sequel.
While major title games take 5-7 years and its an issue for sure, there's still great new games released like weekly, but a lot of them just don't really appeal to you guys. The indie scene is constantly dropping new, fun things (Crow Country & Signalis for example) but you just gotta try some random stuff!
In the old days you'd just make videos for games that were old half the time. I see no reason not to do the same if you want to make more gaming parody videos. Who needs "the new stuff" when you haven't made all the old stuff. Just a thought.
Dope. They are gonna do the classic Mega64 thing. Where they say they will talk about something later. In this case the Alien movie. But then never talk about it later.
Derrick you gotta go indie to find the new ideas. Smaller games made for your niche. Think indie games are where you guys want to be at in terms of games and have been for years now. Really only enjoyed the FromSoft games the past several years and recently Monster Hunter in terms of bigger titles. Within the past year or a bit longer though you've got Pizza Tower, Balatro, Tiny Rogues, Baldur's Gate 3 (not indie I know but still a mention), Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Cult of the Lamb, Sea of Stars, Hades 2 technically, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. Lot of rogue likes from me, but think you just gotta browse the library by genre and see what people are cooking up because you've got great options for everything. I do kind of understand the feeling of "oh this is like this, but I've played that" but realistically what can you expect people to do? Art is derivative anyway so at least try and find the best of "that thing" and then you get more of it. I don't get sick of pizza because I've had pizza like it before, and I love trying out new pizza places. That's at least how I see it.
33:00 Sorry Rocco but ur Disney cucked on this one. I get the "were just trying to avoid court" argument but they're trying to force him to go to arbitration by saying he gave up the right to sue when he signed up for Disney+, aka ANYONE who signed up for Disney+ would be forced into arbitration. If they wanna settle out of court they can still do that, if they want to "make things right" they can do that, or if they wanna go to court and argue its not their fault, they can, but they don't want to. And the talk about the negative PR is missing the forest for the trees. IF this holds (which is a big if), they don't have to handle a lawsuit ever again from anyone who's ever signed up for Disney+. Yeah I'm sure they wish this backlash didn't exist but I'd take a couple weeks of bad PR to get forced arbitration on millions of Americans anyday.
You can't get invaded during a boss fight in Souls games what is Garrett talking about? Unless he's talking about that very specific gimmick fight in Demon Souls but that's doubtful.
With regards to the Fortnite and video quantity discussion, I just want to say first I'm a diehard Mega64 fan. I've been a fan since 2014 when Sequence Erase dropped, and I've tuned into every podcast weekly and even called in occasionally. I met all of my good friends through Mega64, and I'm always grateful for what the boys put out. I'm excited to get my hands on a copy of Night Time Remastered, and I loved the compilation video they most recently put out. Their newer skits have been fantastic, and the creativity and technical prowess they've developed throughout the years shows. I'm not involved with the video production that the boys put together, so I have no idea what that process looks like, but I think the cynicism they have towards the industry right now can be really detrimental towards video quantity. I don't think this is a bad thing, as more doesn't always necessarily mean better, but I think if the Mega64 of 2008 was making videos right now for GameTrailers and IGN, we'd probably be seeing some Fortnite content. This is a massive assumption, and I don't want the guys to take it the wrong way either, so I apologize if that's speaking out of turn, but if you look at the Fortnite content that's being pumped out, well, Neo interacting with John Wick and Master Chief, etc, it could be a goldmine for a lesser quality channel who was more concerned with pumping videos out than making something truly forward-thinking. Mega64 for me always represented the outsider in video game culture. The Tim and Eric fan in a sea of Rick and Morty fans, if you will. Even the livestreaming events are incredibly creative and truly use the livestreaming format in ways a lot of other creators just don't. That all being said, I do wish there were more skits. The old style of video games IRL, I don't know if it still works in 2024 as well as it did in 2004. 20 years is a long time. On top of that, I can't imagine how difficult it is to logistically put together a video now when you have a whole team of adults with different schedules and lives, etc. I appreciate what you guys still do when you can. I hope this bit of criticism is not seen as ill-willed. Thank yall for everything.

Surprised Derrick didn't mention the rust-esque aspects of V Rising. I think that's either a major turn-off or a major turn-on depending on the person. Spoiler for the next podcast, he's gonna stop playing for one day and come back to everything he's ever made destroyed and then he's gonna change his review
we are, unfortunately, in an era of big corporatization and monetization of video games. Every AAA game needs to have battle passes, skins, subscriptions, and needs to keep the player playing the game as long as possible so they can keep supplying money. Need to keep the player coming back every single day with daily rewards in order to keep the player base count up. Every game is a sequel, remake, or a rehash of a previous idea. original ideas are too risky. why risk a bunch of money making an original interesting single player experience, when you can just do the bare minimum for a multiplayer looter shooter based on an existing property and be guaranteed millions of dollars from battle pass and character skin sales? Every once in a while you'll get a rare AAA gem that has none of that stuff (Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, Zelda), but they're few and far between.
@@TortoiseMaximus They made lots of sponsored vids at their peak. Doubt they played most of them. Especially considering that some were done before the game actually released (or just after) as a promotion.
I wish the Alien series could make some good games. Isolation is the only good example. Alien Romulus was fresh again like Alien Resurrection. New themes, but a lot references back to The original. Horror films are shallow, the first Alien film is 40 years old and has more narrative in the set than disney can shit.

I going to hard switch to Stranger of Paradise as my me re-entry into FF, that's probably a good idea
I'm a final fantasy fan and I wouldn't even touch those. If you're new I'd say start with ff10 and then go to ff7 remake if you can get Into 10. If you start with ff7 and like it you probably won't like anything else after

I'm a final fantasy fan and I wouldn't even touch those. If you're new I'd say start with ff10 and then go to ff7 remake if you can get Into 10. If you start with ff7 and like it you probably won't like anything else after
Bro those are all bad ff. Personally I'd start with 10.
6, 7, 9, 10, 12 are all good, others are too old or ass
