Win or lose, the supermoto would probably be more fun for most people.
Amen
No bike will find your inner hooligan like a supermoto.
Yes it's a feeling I chase not lap time. I don't own a supermoto but i'll take it over a 1000rr
It's more manageable on the road, but sometimes you feel like you could go way faster and the bike won't take you there.
@@RUclips_Globetrotter If I had to keep it, I'd take 5K dirt bike over a sport bike in literally any price category. Sticking to the road and riding at high speeds are just immensely dull, boring concepts.
You are a great rider. That was an absolute joy to watch. Cannot state how impressed I am. Kudos!!
"Cannot state how impressed I am" is a statement of how impressed you were
Not sure why you cannot accept that I AM impressed that he IS a great rider. You can seek therapy. @@dangoesfast
@@dangoesfastnope because it an understatement
Can you tell me how impressed I am?@@dangoesfast
This is on Streets of Willow; on Big Willow the SM wouldn’t even be close, on Horse Thief Mile, the SM would check out. Track layout makes a huge difference.
Absolutely... this video is purposely trying to deceive.
no way, the bike that's faster in a straight line is faster on straight lines and the bike that's faster in the curves is faster in the curves!!!
@@friendlysnoworb6091depends on how many turns and how long the straights are I guess
I was in a race in 1978 it was the annual AFM six hour endurance race that year it rain five out of 6 hours a Can-Am 250 dirtbike came in second .it doesn’t necessarily mean if you have 1000 cc that you’re gonna beat that little 250. I’ve seen Bob Endicott in the unlimited class in a 10 lap race He cleaned everybody’s clock at the end of the race, he was a half a lap ahead of everybody else .
Facts! Back in olden times, I think it was 2008, when the AMA raced at Sonoma Raceway (then called Infineon Raceway) on the north end of the Bay Area, Jake Zemke's 600cc FX pole position lap was good enough for P6 on the Superbike grid. That's how much track layout matters. That could NEVER happen at Big Willow or Daytona or Utah. There's a reason SuperMoto races on kart tracks and superbikes... don't.
You definitely feel the 100kg difference in the curves :)
And the skills
Well, this shows exactly what I see when I ride out on the very curvy mountain roads of my area together with other bikers.
I own four different bikes all Yamahas. One MT-3 old version 660cc single with 183kg, one Bulldog V2 1100cc with 250kg, one MT-01 V2 1700cc with 265kg and a XV 1900cc also a V2 with 340kg. The heavier the bike, the lover is the speed in the middle of the curve. But the larger engines have a better acceleration due to the higher torque.
So, in the end of the day only the skills of the rider make the difference. A very skilled rider on a low hp bike can outperform any medium skilled biker on a high end racing bike if only the road has enough curves. If there are enough straight lines the racers can only be faster on a race track. On public roads the speed limit prevents that.
Summery: On public roads you can easy cope with about 90% of all the others, even you ride just a lightweight low hp bike. If you want to ride just for the fun of it, no need to invest a lot of $ in a high end racing bike.
I’ve never seen more confused Aprilia and Triumph riders than when I left them all on a parallel twin 600cc Yamaha during a group ride here in the twisties of Western NC.
…Except for the time I smoked my brother-in-law on his R1100R while riding a 600cc Honda Silverwing scooter. 😂
@@FilosophicalPharmer
Good one.
YAMAHA = “You And Me Are Hauling A**.” 😂👍🏼
A lot of riders underestimate Sumos and Trail Bikes. I've mainly ridden big Trailies with road tyres, and on rides out have never been left behind. The only bikes I could never keep up with were 600s with an experienced rider. I'm a bit long in the tooth now for brains out riding although I'm seriously considering becoming a born again biker and getting a KTM Sumo, Wife permitting.
That's one of the reasons i enjoyed my old KTM so much. Living right in the middle of the austrian alps many sportbike riders would underestimate your little "underpowered" bike until the twisties begin.
Switched to something more civilized (Buell XB12) because of an engine failure and the rising risk of my riding style (drifting into corners and wheelies out of them). Never underestimate these little wheelie machines on mountain roads!
My wife said it was either her or motorcycles.
Boy, am I gonna miss her!
@@dusty111 same here, before it got stolen I've had the 64bhp, 2014 690 smcr with full titanium akra and few bits and pieces and dynoed at 69 (nice) WHP!. 34k km, never any failures, only sipping some oil. On twisty Irish roads this was the best and by far the fastest bike I've ever owned and I was very, very good with my K6 gixer 600. All the big bike boys from Dublin Island Riders were getting a weekly spanking on Mondelo and Wicklow roads :)
@@Dave-ng7ee i never thought of Ireland as a motorcycle country because in my head Britain and Ireland are more or less rain only. On the other hand, the isle of man is near you
@@dusty111Motorcycles still work in the rain, you know. And high wind, fog, hail, and even snow!
Those who ride throughout winter in the UK don't have that dangerous period of re-familiarisation which the fair weather-only riders require in spring after their four- to six-month layoff.
Super impressive. The amount of lean angle and grip a SM has in corners is insane. I still miss my Aprila SVX. But it's better this way. I won't die jong. LOL😂.
This was such a joy to watch. loved how you really turned it up second last lap. Brings me back to racing and tracking my 450SMR. Does not seem even physically possible how fast they can corner. Of course you are a VERY skilled rider.
Talk about wringing a bikes neck. Jesus.
Hats off mate that was some ride
As the old maxim says... 'It ain't what you got, it's what you do with it that counts!' 😎
That was fun to watch, thanks for posting. I'm a motard fanatic but used to love racing sports bike. Either way it's great 😁
Other than the awesome riding, the vast open space and the sky that you can see as far as the horizon is somewhere I ought to take myself and the bike to. The daily cramped workspace makes me miss the outside world.
The Willow Springs Streets track is very tight and technical. There are only a couple of places where the RR's power will do anything for you. The SM rider is really good, though.
I wish I could see your PB, cause I'm loving the lines 😍. great video, looking forward to more!.💪
That was some epic riding. Great video!
great quality man! this is the good type of POV
Bro you helped me fall asleep again, so soothing and smooth. Great ride, man.
The most epic friend battle I’ve ever watch on board. Amazing!! I love supermoto
Wow, you really brought it to the sportbike guys,, that was some amazing riding!!
Excellent riding on the Katoom! Now to be fair, it’s time to see the S1000RR on a Sumo track! 👍🏼😁
Awesome! We all love to see the underdog come out on top!
Yes track layout plays a part but there's also a pretty big talent disparity between the rider on the SM and the rider on the RR.
If we take the 2nd to last lap as an example, which its most likely his fastest lap around the course and you have good knowledge and understanding about how to handle a bike (in this case the supermoto) then you will see how i could shave off easy 2-3 seconds at bare minimum.
❤I DONT HAVE ANY BAD INTENSIONS ON THE DRIVER AND DONT WANT TO BE RUDE OR INSULT HIM IN ANY WAY!❤
He got great driving skill for sure, but there are some fatal mistakes in relation to driving line, break points and small hick-ups in the handling department (like the rear wheel locks while braking before corner entry f.e.)
Would be awesome as well if we had time's shown but i am pretty sure the camera-bike has the faster laps overall and i also think that the superbike drivers dont ride as long or dont habe the same expirience as this driver.
All in all great video! Be safe out there big boy❤
That was a fun ride! Thanks for taking us along...
This quality 🫶🏼
You should get some clip ons it makes cornering so much better. Or a set of handle bars you can invert easily. It will help lower your center of gravity and puts your weight further forward.
This is a great example of riding with momentum vs riding with power
I know that supermoto is fast, but I’m pretty sure that rider is insanely fast! Impressive!
ahhh... difficult subject. youre lighter, youll outbrake and outmaneuver them in turns, but get eaten on straighs.. but you have some skills man, thas some riding! Loved it.
Both have it's own advantages, and this video explains it. I love this race
that was amazing to watch, need to get you into a motogp race with that ;)
In other words, Carson is just HIM.
I remember spending an entertaining afternoon a few years ago as a spectator at Bouley Bay hillclimb on the island of Jersey. A tight and steep hillclimb. Second fasted bike time of the day was a guy on a 650cc supermoto. Fastest time of the day was the same guy, on his 400cc supermoto. On a fast open circuit like Monza, a litre class sports bike would win, by a long way. The tighter and more technical, the more the supermoto comes into play.
I had a APRILIA 550 SXV stage 3 tune dyno'ed OVER 70 HP at rear wheel sickest fastest machine EVER could do things with ease that I just couldn't on my NINJA 600 love seeing you go out and prove what I've been trying to say for a long time 👍nice ride
Great job. Impressive riding brother.
What a beast to keep up with that 1000 in corners obviously he is out on the straights but u constantly catch him which imo in pretty insane
LOL! Can you not see the sporties weren't pushing anything? This was a general riding session, not a race. The SM guy was the only one who decided to fake race a bunch of people riding a general session.
this was an epic series of fantastics laps!!
amazing
Excellent video and very relevant. Or course skill matters, for the same rider, when it's straight, power wins out; when it's twisty, maneuverability wins out. Applies to any kind of craft. Here's the thing--isn't it the turns that make it fun?
Going from 100 kmph to 250 kmph in few seconds is very much fun too ;- )
I way prefer light nimble bikes over power- great vid! Give me a tuned 250 any day over a liter bike! I really prefer a balance though- the Ninja 636's are my favorite Bikes, closely followed by the older 750 Ninjas with the double round headlights- I mostly like them for their looks though, the 636 has it all though! Love my handling over my power- having both is always good too though!
Great video, i know it is not that important on a supermoto, but what is the top speed of your fs 450? It looks that even on the straights you have not so much to lose on the sportbike
Somewhere around 105-110mph
I loved my MZ Mastiff & KTM Duke II over all bikes I've owned.
mate - your riding skills and confidence are nuts! Hat off, sir, hat off ... 👍👍👍👍
Imagine he had a Husaberg FS650 …. great Riding !
You’re a beast man! Sick video
You're a phenomenal rider. That is a tight track. I would be faster on my R 1250 GS than my prior ZX10R
💪🏻 Nice !
I started with road race bikes and later made te switch to SM and Enduro. It’s a lot of fun and very quick 💨💨😎🤠
Same here! This was my second track day with this bike and I can't believe how fun it is 🤘🏽
Street bike is slower in the turns due to lack of skill and not trusting his tires, then powers out once straightened up a bit. The dirt bike loses a lot of ground on the straights due to lack of horsepower, but he’s able to keep his momentum up in the turns to-the point that the street bikes are in his way! Fun to watch tho!
Fantastic footage and riding! May I ask, what camera are you using?
some great riding done well to keep that pace nice work
That is pretty sick!!! Is that a 701, 450 or what on the SuperMoto?
SMR 450
Is this guy dragging on a supermoto? Thats just beautiful.
this is the most beautiful track i have ever seen in the pure nature, where is that?
In a little desert town in California!
The track is the Streets of Willow Springs, located at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California.
Your skill on the track is unbelievable!!!!
pretty sick - streets of willow is one of my fav tracks
Awesome video also Awesome ridi g skills 👏👏
The track type determins the bike type
Killin it bro💯
Depends on the track of course. Short, tight track and supermotos win.
Looking at this super moto all day long being that is a very open track with long stretches you wouldn’t have any trouble on a tight track
I used to kick ass on a VFR400 so it's not just an SM thing while I agree they're lots of fun remember most big bike rider can't ride.
Is that you with the 65hp dirt bike @IamCarsonn?? If so, you are fucking awesome! 👍
Horses for courses. Had a homebuilt 94 husky 610 in the late 90,s. 17" rgv 250 rims and brakes. Round our wee tight, twisty, bumpy back roads, eat superbikes. Its a concertina thing. Overall lap time similar. Sm wins on braking an pull out o corners. Less power so can apply it all without fear o highsiding. Loses out on high speed straights.
Let’s see a rematch in a kart track
I'm someone who underestimated the supermoto styled bikes. Oh boy, what I've felt is super bikes are damn hard to ride. Sure, you can go fast in a straight line but when there are curves, I feel much easier in a supermoto. You can do a lot of advanced stuffs in SuperMoto without fear. Would I do that in my sport bike? No.
Nice! I have to say, though, that the BMW rider didn't have great body positioning. Looks like he is sitting upright on the bike with his arms pretty straight instead of getting his inside elbow down.
Last time I took my big, heavy ZZR 1200 to Streets, a female rider on a Ninja 300 would always go around me up on Turn 8. I would blow her away right after the curve, but next lap there she was again. 390 lbs. vs 600 lbs. Bike plus rider, we're looking at 500 vs 800+ lbs.
Zseniális! Apránként bedarált mindenkit, pedig az egyenesekben mindig kapott 50-100 méter hátrányt...
That's almost embarrassing for the superbike racers 😮
On a track like this you have a better chance, but the real fun begins when you enter the corner at 130 km/h
Awesome to see!!! Great video and racing!!! I love supermotards!!!
Racing? This was clearly not a race, it was a general session and the sporties were nowhere near giving a S about this SM guy and just relaxing enjoying their session. Maybe next time SM guy should tell the others he was racing them. Yellow vest guy demonstrated many times he could overtake SM guy anytime he wants. They were all laughing at this SM guy thinking he was actually doing something.
If that track was tighter the 450 would leave anything for dust! Im not biased neither, i have a gsxr 1000, a ktm 525 exc supermoto and 450 for enduro so I know the benefits of each bike. Both fun bikes but on sportbike s you need to be going very fast to get a buzz where as with supermoto you get lots of fun below 100mph
Next bring that 1000cc to the go cart track.
now let do a contest on a supermoto track
Light often beats might where vehicles are concerned.
Do you think a supermoto is a worth it buy? I’ve been debating getting one to add to my current stable, 2023 Z H2 SE, 2023 Sportster S and 2023 TNT135. And would you rec the KTM 690 over the Duc 698?
Light is right! 🔥🔥🔥
Not a fair fight. Take straight lines out, guess who's the winner...
depending on which track
Old good advice to novice rider, was buy dirt bike and modified it to for track race. Many succesful rider began with dirt bikes in ice track (Jarno Saarinen). You are fast or not, with it.
Great riding great fun. But as to the question posed in the title? No contest. Equal riders on those bikes on a road racing course will be no contest. The liter track bike, no question. That's their niche, that's what their design has evolved to excel at. Dirt bikes on road courses are fun and perhaps perform much better than some might think, but there is a reason why MotoGP bikes don't look like SuperMoto bikes.
Wringing that sumo’s neck! Glad to see you back on the Tube my man, shredding as always 👏👏👏
What bike is this?
I had an Aprilia sxv5.5 in full supermoto kit with a handful of trick bits back in the day and in everyday use it was a super bike killer 100% of the time.
I always wondered if it could of done the same on the Track...
ngl i think its gonna depend mores on the tyres and suspension and the rider, skill gap on track between a normal track rider and a top tier rider is even bigger than between a normal track driver and a top track driver
Makes sense but still insane 😂
It has everything to do with the riders abilities.
I see you two are duking it out at Willow Springs racetrack it looks like . Been here a few times myself . 😎👍👍
Great demonstration of fast rider vs fast bike. Faster rider will always win. BMW rider had decent mid corner speed, but you were eating him up on corner entry and exit.
Nice riding, great lines and somehow you stayed off the rev limiter (mostly).
Impressive and justifying why my old 125dirt-bike, ends up sufficiently FAST😂 Everytime 🤙
Rockin that 450 smr bro!!
That gap btwn car drivers is what it is, with bikes it‘s astronomical. Amateur vs pro on 4 wheels you’re talking 5 seconds, on 2 wheels you’re talking 15.
*Typical tracks like TB at NJMP.
The tortoise and the hare!
Do this on a Super Moto track... 🙂 SM's are great fun, but so are SS's. I've had both over my 50 years riding and enjoy watching these matchups. Results are all too predictable as it is always on a street track that favors the bike that is purpose built for it.
Which tire youse the supermoto rider on this fast track ?
Metzler k1s
@@IamCarsonn racetec sm ?
The rider matters most.
what camera was used to record this? it looks so good.
People get so caught up on cc 😂 twisty stuff like this you could be on a 125 and keep up
🤣🤣🤣🤣A 125 cc would be tough to beat on a go kart track. On this particular track it would be dead meat.
@@countryjoe3551 there's a ton of 125s Vs 600s on fast tracks like this and it's closer than you'd think! There's a limit to how fast you can corner on any bike just because you have 10 times the power don't mean it corners on rails lol
@@Mt24855 depends on the size of the track, a fast rider on a 125 is going to have a hard time catching an average rider on a 600 on a regular track. Go kart track might be a different story though.
good fun, where can i see the footage from the back of the BMW?
Dude you have mad skills!
I was completely impressed how you passed every single bike on the track and possibly even lapped someone.
At about the 10:30 mark where you went to that one guy with a yellow vest to pass him once again, I know how you really stepped up your game and pushed it to the edge....lol
Great riding, great video!
Real question is, which one has to get rebuilt after 10 of these track days?
Neither?
@@IamCarsonn The supposed "fragility" of KTMs is a really, really weird idea. I mean, these engines do the Dakar, Baja and the ISDE without turning a hair, but as soon as you put one on the track, they're supposed to do impersonations of 4th July? Would somebody explain the logic of that?
And the other thing is that, coming from an Enduro background, you are not going to find easier mechanicals to work on, because the rider isn't allowed to receive outside assistance during an enduro, so it has to be fixed by the guy who rides it.
@@davidcolin6519 Can you find a working 2000s KTM ? Because i certainly cannot.
On the other hand, I can lift a rock and find 5-6 working CRFs.
That said, today's KTM are nicely built and you find crap tons of accessories but the plastic/$ ratio is ridiculous.
Sherco > ALL. :p
@@cethyhnc9305Can I find a working 2000s KTM?
Of course I F*CKING can. In fact, I have a mid 90s KTM and pretty much everybody I know who rides off road has a KTM. Where I live, it's such a no-brainer that it is pretty rare to see anything else.
Maybe it is because you're in The States, where I believe dealers are spread pretty thin and therefore maintenance might not happen when it needs to, but here in €Ireland that really isn't a problem.
And if you insist on buying OE plastic, that's your problem. Again, where I am, there's a sh1t-ton of plastics readily available.
Funny that you should mention Honda for parts. When I had Hondas, parts availability was absolutely dire. I had one bike that I literally couldn't use because of a simple broken part, and I couldn't use the bike for over 6 months!
Super moto geared for low end power and lighter. Of course it's faster in curves. I'd love to see that race on the Nürburgring.
Being geared for low end power makes a bike faster in the curves? 🤔
@@IamCarsonn Combined with lighter weight makes it faster out of the curve, yes.
