Niiiice. Always bringing what's needed for the masses, Jimmy! One small extra request though...Could you also find back up storage for my brain too? (age induced brain farts)
Same problem here in 2024 one day it stop working ... Now no use can't even recover data ..those who are interested in NAS don't go for wd mycloud home
You known you can go to my cloud Google it on their we web site sign in and logon onto your mycloud device browse and upload to it right. I do still in Nov 2024
Can you just use the device as an internal-NAS? ie, without any requirement to open things up to the cloud? Basically, just use it as a dumb storage like a 1 bay NAS.
It best to have your own device (which is the literal actual storage) then an app does it all for you. Can't get everything in life for free. You are owning your own cloud backup for your family
@@jimmyispromo I already have the storage devices, I am just looking for an app to do the heavy lifting. Never said the app had to be free, just don't need to buy equipment I already own.
@@holycrapski I have something like that setup but I was more interested in the autobackup features that an app would have, so that photos/videos/documents would be automatically backed up from our phones to the storage each time we were in the local wifi network without all the drag and drop stuff, if you know what I mean.
is it possible to backup your music files as well on an iphone on this device? reason i ask is very few times have i ever bought a song on itunes which would be a bit easier to recover but they are way overpriced. i have years of music i have added to phone over the years i'm concerned one day i may lose. i do a full backup periodically (every few months) to a computer that is getting really old and i have been a bit afraid and it appears to be a bit complicated to begin backing up to another computer without losing a bunch of stuff. been looking for an alternative method to do a full backup of phone for a while now, just in case phone bricks or gets destroyed. prefer not to pay monthly for icloud or any other cloud service as well honestly. If anyone has any ideas i'd greatly appreciate any help

@@jimmyispromo I thought about getting a 4 TB and formatting it since it's probably cheaper. I had to delete games to add one. I need to do something to keep them all
@@AmbeSwag Its extremely slow, in everything, transfer files, search for files, indexing files. The user interface is useless, there are very limited extensions, u cant connect it directly to a pc, using e.g. usb port. The support is incompetent, there are no updates anylonger. The password cannot be set to be more than 8 characters, symbols are not supported, hence the security is crap. These are just what I can remember on the top of my head.
Can I access data from the device when I am outside the house, so for example I’ve taken the kids out taken a bunch of pictures. Would they get stored on the servers even though I’m not at home? Or would the pictures only sync to the server when I get wishing my wife signal?
Don't believe you can do that. Wouldn't be stable. If you don't have internet, place your storage device at a friend's house or family members house. Can be anywhere to back your stuff up.
No you can't use a hotspot the device has to be connected via ethernet so if you have T-Mobile or Verizon 5G home internet the Gateways they give have ethernet ports and Netgear does make a mifi that has an ethernet port but otherwise no
Cheap? The communication corporations are getting more greedy. They stopped using sd cards in devices and are limiting choices to save data to buying cloud storage for monthly fees. Phones, email, security cameras, and everything else adds up to outlandish costs. What makes this an awful idea??
there are many reasons why on-prem storage is not the best choice for home use compared to cloud storage: Redundancy: Cloud storage providers generally offer redundancy, meaning your data is stored in multiple locations to ensure it's safe and accessible even if one data center experiences an issue. With on-prem storage, you'll need to invest in additional hardware and perform regular backups to achieve similar redundancy, which could be time-consuming and costly. Scalability: Cloud storage allows you to easily increase or decrease your storage capacity as your needs change. On-prem storage, on the other hand, requires you to purchase and install additional hardware if you need more space, which can be both costly and cumbersome. Maintenance: Cloud storage providers handle all the maintenance, updates, and security for their servers. With on-prem storage, you'll need to invest time and effort in maintaining and updating your system to ensure it remains secure and up-to-date. Accessibility: Cloud storage can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, making it easy to access and share your files across devices. On-prem storage, however, is typically accessible only within your local network, limiting your ability to easily access your data when you're away from home. Disaster recovery: In the event of a natural disaster or hardware failure, cloud storage providers usually have measures in place to ensure minimal data loss and quick recovery. With on-prem storage, you'll need to invest in additional backup systems and develop your own disaster recovery plan, which can be complex and time-consuming
Until of course they stop “support” don’t plug security holes because they churn out device after device, then they get hacked and all your data is either stolen or wiped !

Good content and information. I was looking for this kind of product from years. Tired of paying online cloud fees. Going to buy one for me.
What about a fire/water or something else that happens. Do you back up this drive to a drive that is protected?
Good question
Can you just use the device as an internal-NAS? ie, without any requirement to open things up to the cloud? Basically, just use it as a dumb storage like a 1 bay NAS.
Works really great since the end of March! GFYS!
You surely love backing up photos
Can you have it auto upload a specific folder on your phone to a corresponding folder on this device?
Nah. If you hit backup phone it backups all your photos and videos by default. If you wanna specify a folder you gotta upload everything manually
Hi Jimmy! Can the uploaded photos be shared or casted on our TVs using Chromecast?
That is a good idea , wonder if i could
Can you set how many GB storage for each user? and can you remove a user ?
Looks like you can. 5:50
Will it set up like a drive on WIndows Explorer?
My board brokwn and no idea whete to buy replacement. They range from $50-150 ajd you can buy replacement clouds for that 😢
Hi, sorry if this is a repeat question... is this possible to do for a family of iPhones?
Yes
After backing up photos can you delete them from your device and they still be in the cloud
My exact ????
Yes
Yes as they stay on your mycloud device
Is there an app that does all this without requiring the purchase of a specific product?

Can you tell me what case that is that you're using for the 22 ultra .
Thanks
It's listed/linked in description 😀
You always want a back up of your back up incase one of them fail.
😂😂
I see It shows Pictures and video, does that mean Music files too. I create songs and would like to share them for collaboration with my friends.
Yes music also
what is the WD Discovery app suppose to show?
I haver seen many comments that this doesnt work on computers anymore, can you confirm this? how is your experience so far?
It still works no desktop app gotta sign into the mycloud web site log in then access the drive there.
Can this backup music files too? Like Ableton session files? I don’t need to see it on my phone. But to just back it up and auto synch would be nice.
Life it's a file, you can back it up. If it's physically sitting on a phone or laptop, it can move over.
Can you review this product? I ask because I was going to get it soon but started seeing reviews it is no longer supported. Any alternatives?
It still works. I have it still as a cloud. Actually just received an update on December 4th.
You can access it via their web site upload and download files form your cloud device there
do you know if is possible auto backup for the pc ?

Yeah you can upload your Apple Music but you gotta download the music and remove the drm protection then upload it
What does a shared link look like for sending pictures to someone else via a link?
It's just a link, they click it and then they can open it or save it.
If it's at home it's not personal "cloud" storage! It would just be a NAS!
Not quite. NAS is completely different and best used for office
@@jimmyispromo I checked the spec on Amazon, isn't it the device a type of NAS? Would you explain any backup (auto) options for PC?

Can you connect a ps5 to a home cloud??
mine failed and won't do anything anymore, how do I get all the pictures out?
Backup important things to several places. Everything wears out and fails sooner or later.
Can you back up PS4/Xbox games?
If the Xbox or Playstation can upload to a cloud, yes. I haven't checked into it. My games save to a big SSD i have plugged in
@@jimmyispromo I thought about getting a 4 TB and formatting it since it's probably cheaper. I had to delete games to add one. I need to do something to keep them all
Is there any redundancy of data? Like Raid 1
No
WD Home Cloud is probably the worst thing that I've bought in recent memories. It just keeps disappointing.
Why?

Select all folders and then select move. Choose your cloud storage and hit enter.

Yep! It's connected thru the internet and is a normal cloud
So if you don't have wifi other than hotspot...( so no home internet) you can't use it
